A photo of Melzer using a black out racquet would be nice. Anyway here is Melzer using the Microgel Prestige Pro.

The new racquet line that is coming out from HEAD is called the CrossBow. It is a game improvement line of racquets.

New Power Loaded Racquet Technology from HEAD
PHOENIX, AZ (May 14, 2008)— HEAD Penn Racquet Sports, one of the industry leaders in forward-thinking racquet design and technology, has launched its latest revolutionary technology: CrossBow. This Power Loaded technology features the world’s first and only dynamic bridge racquet construction.

The new CrossBow Technology will be found in five new racquets from HEAD for the coming season, including the CrossBow 10, the CrossBow 6, as well as the next-generation of Airflow racquets designed for women including the Airflow 7, Airflow 5, and Airflow 3.

Power loaded for players with shorter more compact swings, CrossBow Technology features a bridge suspended from the frame that moves independently, allowing the racquet to store energy in both the stringbed and the bridge. The two-piece design acts like a spring or bow that is loaded during ball impact and is released as the ball accelerates off the stringbed for maximum power.

“With the CrossBow technology, a new-found energy is unleashed in every shot, which provides incredible power to the player,” said Kevin Kempin, vice president of sales and marketing for HEAD Penn Racquet Sports.

The CrossBow lines will also include HEAD’s newly re-designed stabilizer to eliminate racquet vibration, resulting in some of the most comfortable racquets available today.

CrossBow also uses 10 main strings though the bridge, offering a larger sweetspot than is found on conventional fixed-bridge racquets.

The new CrossBow Technology will be available in the following racquets:

CrossBow 10: The lightest and most powerful CrossBow
racquet offers optimal maneuverability for superior
    performance.

CrossBow 6: A powerful, evenly balanced racquet with
great pick-up feel appealing to a large range of players.

Airflow 7: The most powerful Airflow racquet incorporating
CrossBow Technology is lightweight with perfect balance.

Airflow 5: An oversized, lightweight racquet with the perfect
balance of power and control complete with CrossBow
    Technology.

Airflow 3: Offering extra control for longer swing styles, the
Airflow 3 is perfectly balanced for excellent maneuverability.

Well it's obviously not a crossbow from the pictures.
    I must add:
“With the CrossBow technology, a new-found energy is unleashed in every shot, which provides incredible power to the player,” said Kevin Kempin, vice president of sales and marketing for HEAD Penn Racquet Sports.

That quote is quite the laugh. Everytime Head comes out with a new technology they promise, more power than you have ever known and more control that ever imagined.

I have four Kneissl Red Star and I can tell you this is a Red Star.
The piece that covers the grommets is a very unique design, and this one has it!

Anyone know if his contract with Head is over?

Kneissl does need a pro to represent and having the best Austrian player would make a lot of sense for them.

In a German forum I read that the Kneissl racquet are actually a PJ of the Sportastic racquet . . . (?)

    http://www.sportastic.at/rackets-c-17_209.html
    http://www.saitenforum.de/board/showthread.php?t=7014

The Kevlar tendons on the Sportastic racquets seem to confirm this . . .

I know that he played before Kneissl with a Sportastic racquet so the Kneissl might be a PJ on a Sportastic racquet

It is a Kneissl or a Sportastic, they have the same mold. After his bad performance in the last weeks he switched back.

it is a redstar indeed but anyone know if it is the old graphics 2006 or the new 2007 model ( they are different) HAHAHAHA that is the question which I know of course

Anyway, I wish he would just contact me and I will send him few of my AUSTRIAN PT630's and get it over with, he will make it into the finals at French Open for sure. :)

There is night and day difference between the Prestige Pro he used for a little while and the redstar. I can not believe pros are making such a big change in gear at this level in a short period.

I have always talked on the boards about the importance of the bridge, even if two frames were identical and the bridge was thicker or thinner by 1mm it will have an affect on how the ball feels,

What’s the difference you find in these two models 2006 & 2007?
I have both but haven't played much with the newer version...... I have all of them strung with different strings and tensions so it's very difficult to compare at this point.
I'm just experimenting with strings but I love these red ones so far.

Which strings do you recommend since you seem to be very knowledgeable in these beauties?

    thanks!

he had the blackout kneissl vs. monfils, and the match resembled a 3.5 pusher battle at times.

When Kneissl left the tennis business in about 2001 or so. Sportastic ended up buying all of the Kneissl molds. After Sportastic bought the Kneissl molds some of the Kneissl players then went over to Sportastic. In about 2005 Kneissl was then resurrected.

Melzer's original racquet when he came on the Tour was the Kneissl Reach Machine.

Melzer plays with his old Kneissl racket again. I was told years ago, that he actually plays with the White Star model and a Red Star pj. He´s also played a lot with Head rackets over the years, in training or sometimes at tournaments. I have always found that quite strange, since these rackets are very different.

    Hello PT 630,

Since you're one of the most knowledgeable guys in this forum in Head and Kneissl frames I would like to ask you about strings for a Kneissl Red Star (old graphics)
This racquet changes more than any other I played before when you switch from polys to multi, or from synthetics to hybrids, etc.
I love the frame but I could not find yet (I know that strings is something very personal) anything that suits this frame really well.
If you could please give your opinion it would be very welcome!

this is part of the reason I did not fancy the red star, it was way too finicky when it came to strings. It was stiff due to the kevlar tendons on the throat coupled with the extra length and the few extra sq's of head size made this frame too powerful. I would tame it with a soft poly like big banger original had they had it a thin string It would have been great which brings me to cyberflash in 17g or 18g

I liked the green toms cut to 27.25 better, try that instead, it plays well with a wider range of strings.

thanks for your input. From all the combinations I tried the best one was Crossfire (Kevlar and synt) @ 54.
The other one I found playable too (I bought used frame strung this way) Isospeed Baseline Control mains and Gosen OSheep crosses.
But again none of the combos convinced me 100%
I'm about to try Pro Supex Maxin Touch, not sure to string full job or with polys

ok guys just got back from pilot pen and saw Melzer practice. Melzer just flew in from china after he got crushed by Nadal. I asked his coach why is Melzer playing with a black out frame and he said "Ohhhhhhh" (sounding very down) it is a very long story. He is back to his old Kneissl". I took a few pictures and will post them. He is playing with a red star, it is a shame he does not play with PT57A, ought to bring him some of my stash :)

I do not know how anyone can play with a red star then play with a 16X19 head MG prestige pro. These two frames are so different it is not even funny not to mention if he fancies a certain type of string they will play totally different in each frame.

The red star is a monster of a frame, it is boarder line OS IMO, he is using it for more POWER and from his performance it is not doing him any good.

Melzer once said he had distribution problems with Kneissl. Also note that Thomas Muster seems to be using a head racket in the seniors events.

I think Melzer is having issues not only with his frames but his looks, he needs to find himself and a frame, soon

this is the 2006 RED STAR painted black, notice the kevler tendons on the throat and inside the hoop

this proves that even pros can not just play with just about anything,

He went from Red star to a REAL MG prestige Pro, something totally different, then went back to his old red star. If pros can play with anything why not stay with Head? why does he keep playing with the red star with bad results. All I know that he is not happy with the way he is playing and most likely the frame has a lot to do with it. Hope he does well at the open. Judging from his performance at the pilot pen, it is not looking too promising.

He did well at the Olympics. He did well at the Austrian Open before the Olympics...Maybe he will do better than people think. Losing to Cilic at the Pilot Pen was not to bad, so did the rest of the field.
