Is this the first year it hosts both the ladies and the men? I think it might be.
Quisner, Haas, Dolgo, Nishikori, Tuna Meltzer . .

And Bogie made it through qualies, so Bogie's Big Adventure continues for one more ATP tournament before it's back to feeding balls from a shopping cart . . . Just kidding, we love you Bogo Jr.

I hope Raonic takes it this year as he's been in the final the past two years. He deserves to a win a 500 at this point.

Yes it'll be a 250. Rio is getting the 500 event.

So how does that work? Someone wins 500 points this year, but how do they make it up next?

There's nothing to make up. Points are relative to the field, and there's less points available for everyone. Each player maps out their annual scheduling to best suit their needs. Shifting up or down a couple of positions here and there as the season progresses through the calendar is expected. Only the top few are likely to be stressed about a small shift.

I'm thinking maybe Cilic here, if he can come through Dodig, which is currently in a third set! Would love to see Istomin go deep, love his game.

Did Mirnyi/Nestor break up? I see that Nestor is with Kubot and Mirnyi with Tecau.

I am so happy seeing Memphis become a 250. Year after year it has been a hunting ground for the medium level players to rack up 500 points without playing top 10 talent.

If the 500's cannot get 2 top 10 players, then they should be relegated to 250 automatically.

Disagree. Hamburg pulls maybe one top 10 player at best same goes for Acapulco. Memphis has had two bad years, but in 2011 it pulled two top tenners (Roddick and Verdasco) same for 2010. 2009 it had 2 with Roddick and Del Potro. 2008 it had possibly 2 don't know Blake's exact ranking at the time. 2007 It pulled 2 as well Roddick and Haas. I mean yea it's had some weak draws, but I think it's same level as the Mexican Open. If it wasn't for the participation of Nadal in it this year it would be seen the same way as it has been. It's obvious Ferrer has only started playing there to get a free 500 points. I don't see the Rio event being any more popular and I sure as hell hope it isn't another clay 500.

On the WTA side...another chance for Watson to get a title here I think, and always interested to see what Coco can do. She's had a shocking start to 2013, but beating Scheepers in R1 was a good result.

Good job by Sam Q to put out the Falla. Much easier than last weeks 7-5 in the 3rd squeaker.

Isner blown off the court by Istomin. 0 break opportunities, 6 double faults, only won 6 points on the Istomin serve. Big John needs to get his **** together or he's going to be sitting outside the top 25 pretty soon.

Istomin can get hot. I remember his match against Nadal at the USO - he outplayed Nadal, then choked, then outplayed him again, then choked again - it looked like he was going to commit suicide at the end.

Did anyone see Coco Chanel's beat down from Hampton? Was it as brutal as it looks on paper?

Pitty Memphis has gone down with years
It used to be one of the world greatest indoor events
in the 70 and early 80
In 1979 the semis line up was Ashe vs Tanner andConnors vs Gerulaitis
In 1980 Mac beat Jimbo 7-6,7-6
Great times for US NATIONAL INDOORS

I think Memphis suffered primarily due to the drop in Men's Tennis in the United States. In the past, you had guys like Sampras, Agassi, Chang, Martin, etc. Roddick was the last good "draw" the US has had. Of course, the European players are going to play Rotterdam, Dubai, et al. And, at this point, all of the big draws are non-American players. Memphis, and non-1000 series tournaments in the states suffer as a result, IMO.

I didn't see it but I'm pretty sure Coco was up a break in the middle of the first set. Not sure what happened after that lol.

Haha. So she lost 11 games in a row? In the apparent lack of any further info, I'm going to put it down to a vintage Coco meltdown.

I'm surprised Raonic is such a large favorite. He's like -900. I expect him to win but Sock definitely has a chance if he plays well.

US players shoudl travel more, play other top people in France, Dubai and such. They won't get the experience against Berdych, Del Potro, Tsonga and others by playing in Memphis.

    Interesting but comfortable for Milos.

Heather Watson with a good battle back from a set down to advance to quarters, including a bagel. She can win this, and if all goes well should be seeded for French. Hope Robson can make a dent in Miami/IW.
