I hear it was a drama filled tie breaker, with the chair calling a hindrance against Miami, the non over rule all ready mentioned and an over rule against Miami.
That's tough when you are the home squad

Too bad the way the doubles ended but they had their chances so not much to say about that. Got to get stronger in the nerves department. They were up 6-2 and maybe starting feeling the win. Can't play that way against the #1 team.

The Canes are a young team and this will be a good learning experience. Coach Yaroshuk-Tews is probably gonna run them ragged on volley practice next week. lol

I'm sure Paige will work hard on the volleys but like I said I believe the misses were more pressure driven both UM players got very tight towards the end .

Kelsey who is a freshman has had issues this year with getting very nervous at times in matches. She is a very tough competitor and I'm sure she will keep improving . Melissa surprised me because she's a seasoned veteran on the team and usually plays very aggressive and it was easy to tell she was feeling the pressure as well . And trust me one of the NC girls was very tight as well , only the NC player which I believe is from Miami was just swinging away and was on the offensive on the points .

What was really cool yesterday was the Crowd that showed up , by far the biggest I've seen in 5 years that I've been attending the matches . The bad thing the free BBQ completely ran out before I could get some . Lol

Both men's and women's teams going up against Duke tomorrow. Guys visiting, girls hosting. Guys facing Mt. Everest of a challenge, but the girls should be pissed off enough to beat Duke.

I think one of the Women UM players from last year who was a Freshman transferred to Duke , but I can't remember her name. Interesting to see how she does . The men have a tough one no doubt and looking at a schedule that still includes Virginia not looking good .

Guys play at Duke at noon while the girls host Duke also at noon. Men will shock everyone if they win. Girls need this one and should win it.

Guys beatdown complete. They didn't win a single match or set for that matter. Let's us know where we stand in the scheme of things. Gonna be tough to beat VT next week. Never mind UVA.

On a more positive note, the girls are returning the favor. They are beating Duke 3-0, lead in all matches and haven't dropped a set yet. Helps that Duke forfeited a doubles match and the #6 singles.

Gonna be tough to get the blue chips though. Coach Rincon is going to have to dip into the Latin America pool. Shame really. Who wouldn't want to play in Miami?

That's what I had mentioned before . The issue is some of the better players available from South America either don't have the grades or their families can't afford the Tuition. When the scholarships are partial it makes it very tough

Somethings gotta give if the U wants the tennis team to come back. Do we need a better recruiter? I have no doubt about Coach Rincon's ability as a coach and leader, but the last few years of recruiting have mostly missed. This year wasn't all that great either. There are so many players coming out of Florida but right now only two of the nine on the roster are from Florida and neither one was highly regarded when they came in.

    April 16th ITA Rankings

The guys drop a couple spots to #55 after a brutal weekend. That hope I had at the beginning of the season for a top 40 ranking by the end of the year seems far and distant now. First things first. Gotta go beat VT.

    Men's Rankings

The girls lost a close one to #1 UNC and beat #9 Duke but stay at #10 for whatever reason. I think they'll be in the top 8 by the end of the season.

Just checked the website. I plan on seeing the men play Virginia on the 21st (Sunday).

You in the area? You going?

Some die hard Miami fan(s) may go. They'll cheer any U Miami sport if beer is involved.

I think any self-respecting Canes fan would want to avoid that UVA matchup. Going to be brutal. That being said, I think I'm masochistic enough to go to any Canes matches but I live on the other side of the planet so might be kind of tough. Enjoy!

Very important dual match for the Cane guys on Friday against #52 Virginia Tech. It's at home so they have a pretty chance. Really need this before they get slammed by UVA and the ACC tournament starts.

No Live Stats today because of software difficulties.

VT takes the doubles point. Freshmen Albanese/Murphy dropped doubles #3 to lose the dubs point. This is Albanese's 4th dubs match of the year and Murphy's second. It is also their first doubles match together. A very strange time of the year to be trying out new doubles teams, especially freshmen.

VT leads 3-0. Gonzalez, Soto, Albanese, Tsukamoto all dropped their first sets but trying to come back with the first three leading in the 2nd sets. Not looking good at all though.

Flores loses in straights and VT wins 4-0. Another beatdown. Pretty much finishes any hope/chance/talk/prayer of a NCAA spot. Just one more beatdown by UVA on Sunday and a cameo appearance in the ACC tournament next week. Very disappointing the way the season is ending.

Time to focus on the ladies.

VT wins 7-0 at Miami. The Canes failed to win a single set in singles today. And to think I actually thought they had a chance to win it today. Puts things in perspective. Coach Rincon will probably be back next year but I'm starting to hope the clock is ticking if these kind of results and the lack of recruiting continues. Really disappointed today so I'd better stop here.

Perhaps Miami has to gamble on the thin roster approach to recruiting: Lots of money for the top 3, and only 6-8 guys total on the roster. Save the big money for top singles guys who also have good doubles skills. Try to outbid other schools for them. Spreading money evenly amongst guys who are just shy of being competitive in the top half of the ACC is not getting the job done.

That's a good idea as any that I've heard. In any case, some changes are needed or it will be like this year after year. The prospects are not much better for next year unless Rincon pulls something out of his magician's hat.

For some more positive news, here come the Canes ladies. The 10th ranked Canes (16-4, 7-2) will face their last two regular season opponents this week. They'll take on #68 Virginia Tech (13-9, 2-7) on Saturday at 11am, and then #17 Virginia (14-8, 7-2) on Sunday at noon.

    Canes vs. UVA

UVA take dubs point. Singles in the first sets. Will the Canes win a set? LIVE STATS actually working today. Biggest shocker of the day.

Holy Moley! Gonzalez took the first set off of Shane! #1 Domijan-Soto and #2 Jenkins-flores tied at 5-5 all in first sets! The mother of historic upsets in the making? Nah. UVA won dubs and won the other 3 first sets already.

Why is freshman Murphy playing his first singles match of the season against the number one team in the country? Debatable.

Canes men go down to UVA 6-1. Gonzalez actually managed to beat Shane for a point. The Canes finish the regular season 13-12, 2-8 and a four match losing streak.

Canes ladies battling UVA as well today, trailing 1-3 but still have a chance.

It was a good day of tennis at UM today . Gabriel Flores had a chance to try and upset the #1 player in the nation Jarmere Jenkins if he could of gotten the match to a 3rd set . Jenkins was starting to struggle physically
but like the great player he is he won the 2nd set in a tiebreak 8-6 . Jenkins was down 5-1 or 5-2 in that set I can't remember and made a great comeback . Diego Soto took Alex Domijan to a tiebreak 1st set by playing the best tennis I've seen him play . He lost the 2nd set 6-0 and you can tell he was done after the effort in the 1st set . Wifredo (Pollo)
saved the sweep by winning his match at the 3 position .

It was a tough season overall for the Canes . The worst part I see is how are the Canes gonna be able to compete with these elite teams . Very tough at UM to get a Academic Scholarship and with the small amount of scholarships given to mens tennis and a tuition now at 56 k , I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel . From what I heard today most players at UM are paying or their parents are paying the tuition . What can the U offer Tennis Players 10% 20% 30% in the form of a scholarship ? That still leaves a ton of money to be paid just for tuition .
