My own predictions for the Canes Men's team. Could be a rough year, with next year even worse.

Can't see UNC being a coin flip at all. Would also guess they will lose to USF, who will be way better...at least a lot better than 70.

Just curious to see if you support a losing coach as such a die hard fan? Wouldn't you like to see new leadership there and a respectable team like back in the day?

Had to find some games somewhere that the Canes would win, and a win would need to come from either North Carolina State or UNC. Both are going to be tough though.
As far as Rincon is concerned, I still support him. He had a great run at the beginning but it has fallen off the last 4 or 5 years. Recruiting hasn't been great this year either. He signed a couple from Poland and Sweden but I have no idea what their level will be when they get here next year. Next year might see us fall completely out of the rankings. If that continues for a couple of years, then I'll be hoping for a change. But not yet.

The Canes Men’s tennis team started off their season with a 7-0 win over Florida Atlantic. The new rules were in place and there were a couple of 5-all tie breakers but the Canes were able to take both of those. These are the matches the Canes must absolutely take if they hope to go to the NCAA this year so it was a good start. Nice to see freshman Bernard Tefel get his first team win as well. The Canes go up to face UCF next Sunday.

Actually, Miami took two out of three tiebreakers. Tsukamoto lost one, greatly prolonging his match, but he won the third set anyway.

You're right. When I first saw the scoreboard, the first two sets were reversed. Not sure if I saw it wrong or if the score was up wrong. Happens often on those scoreboards. What do you think of that 5-all tiebreak and the other changes?

The format changes are the reason we were all able to watch Miami vs. Florida Atlantic live on TV. :)

The women's team season starts Friday at the Miami Spring Invite against Texas, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. It should be another interesting year for the defending ACC champions! Here are my predictions for the ladies' year.

The first day of the Miami Spring Invite was held in Coral Gables on Friday. Miami is joined by Texas, Vanderbilt and Memphis for the 3-day event. The Canes ladies played four doubles and eight singles matches. The doubles was a sweep with No. 29 Albuquerque/Riobueno defeating No. 21 Addison/Horn leading the way. The singles ended with four wins and four losses, including Victoria Zukowski’s debut as a Cane. Play continues tomorrow.

The women's team continued to dominate at the Miami Spring Invite. They took five of seven singles matches from the Texas Longhorns, including Laurente's win over #22 Addison. They also swept the doubles matches from Memphis!

The Canes ladies wrapped up their Miami Spring Invite today. they finish up with a record of 13-8 in singles and 9-2 in doubles. Laurente's win over Texas' Adisson was the big win of the weekend. The ladies will now play Ohio State, South Florida and LSU in the ITA Kick Off Weekend on January 25-26.

Kirijax you remember what I told you Flores said after their loss in the ACC tournament last year. He's a beaten man, tired of the sport I think. Miami needs new blood fast.

Yeah I remember you saying that. I was worried about him coming back and he has not done much since the fall. This team could be headed for an even bigger fall before they get back up. Today was a huge eye opener about this team. But hey! The ladies are doing great! lol

Came across an old article today about tennis history in South Florida. Very interesting read. In an interview, Gardnar Mulloy (the man who started the Miami Hurricanes tennis team) talks about the beginning of the team.

The ITA Kick-Off starts tomorrow! Miami goes up against Ohio State and then the winner of South Florida and LSU.

The men were the only top team to pass on the Kick-Off this year. But after seeing them lose against UCF, that may have been the wise thing.

The Canes beat Ohio State today but wow it was close. 5 of the 6 singles matches were third set tiebreaks. It could easily gone the other way but the Canes pulled it out.

Louisiana beats South Florida (unless the scoreboards are wrong and in college tennis that is a very real possibility) and they will face the Canes tomorrow. Hopefully the ladies will be ****ed off from the close call today and wallop the Tigers all the way back to Louisiana.

Meanwhile, the men are still licking their wounds from their first ever loss to UCF. They wisely decided not to join in the ITA Indoor fun this year and will try again against Bethune-Cookman next Sat.

After a close call against South Florida yesterday, The Canes came out swinging today. After taking the doubles point, all six took their opening set and it was a race to see who would finish first after that.

So the ladies go to the Indoors, the men stay home.

For those of you in the know on college tennis, what do you think of the job that Hurricanes head coach Rincon has done? Good? Bad? Needs to get it together? On the hot seat? Very interested in opinions of people who watch college tennis closely.

You losing the faith? Understandable if you're frustrated.
D1 tennis at Miami, it's a no brainer, they should be better than they've been. Simple as that.

Haha, no worries. At least you try. Texting from my phone is too challenging for me.

And we should be better but the last four years have pretty much sucked. And next year we might see the bottom completely fall out.

Well, one is a blue-chip ranked 30th or so right now. The other two are internationals from Poland and Sweden. Hard to get any info on them. Not sure how they will fare over here. I sure hope it's an upgrade because if it isn't we're falling out of the top 75 next year.

Here's a bit of good news for the men's team at last. The recruiting class for 2014 is ranked #6 in the country. Now we'll see if Coach Rincon and staff can bring the team back up to the top half of the rankings.

There was a change in the roster on the men's team with Jack Murphy, who was playing in the fall, disappears from the roster and Daniel Shebshavevich. A four-star recruit from Laurel Springs.

I have always been impressed with Harrington and McLean from the training center in College Park. Of course, a 4-star player is very impressive to my eyes when watching a junior tennis tournament, and I have no idea how well they will compete in the ACC, but they have been top-notch in this part of the country for a long time.

Funny thing is, not a word about them on the Canes official website. Only about the blue-chip and two internationals. Those two and another one named Clark has verballed but according to TNR they have not signed yet.

They probably verballed after the fall signing period was over, and will sign when the spring signing period starts in April. They will receive word from the admissions department by then as well (not that they are having any doubts there; I am just pointing out that acceptances precede the spring signing period for many sports).

I figured it must be official since TRN has them listed but the official sites are so quiet. Jack Murphy suddenly disappears and Daniel Shebshayevich appears on the roster without a word. Annoying but the way it is.

The men's team (2-1) bounce back after that loss to UCF by sweeping Bethune-Cookman today, while the women (3-0) beat Florida Gulf Coast 6-1 before heading to charlottesville next week.

I see you started a Miami thread over in the other tennis forum. I used to run that section of the forum there with a Wake fan but now that I discovered here, I use this for college and the other one for pro.

Canes men grab an easy 7-0 win against Florida A&M today. Only Flores dropped a set. They are now 3-1 for the year and will host No. 53 Texas Tech on Friday. Should be interesting.

ITA Indoors draw is out and the Canes got jipped a bit. Not sure why they wouldn't follow rankings, but Duke jumped over Miami so Miami now has to face Georgia in the 1st round. Good job, whoever thought up of that one.

First round match ups are not based only on rankings. Getting to play a team not on your schedule also plays into it.
UVA has the most to kick about. Their first serious match of the season and they draw Florida, that is tough!

So an ACC team jumps over another ACC team? That makes sense.
