After tearing up an ankle years ago I started wearing mid-tops at the suggestion of my ortho. Given the extremely limited choices in mids, I'm thinking about going with standard shoes and an ASO (or similar) brace. Anyone with similar experience who has done this?

It is hard to find a good mid and I remember when they were supposed to become the big thing in tennis. I like to use braces. Mine use elastic straps that simulate taping. I've used this model since the 80s (I do buy new ones:)) as it keeps my ankles nice and stable but also doesn't add bulk. A good shoe is still important but I have more choices and can focus on fit (which is the bigger issue since my foot is kind of an in-between size). Right now, I use the KSwiss Defier RS which is never going to go down in history as a ultra-supportive shoe but fits and is ok with my braces.

I have used the cb 4.3's with a brace and because of the lacing system it works quite well. It was a very bulky brace too.
