Which player has won the most "bagel" sets on their way to a Grand Slam title (most likely)?I haven't done any serious research, but I saw that in Yannick Noah's '83 FO win he won 4 bagels, including two in the semis against Cristophe Roger-Vassellin. I know that's no indication of dominance or anything, but it's an interesting piece of trivia.

What is the record for the least number of games lost and least number of sets lost on the way to a major win (only in open era) ?

Wow; strangely enough, in the 1977 French Open, Villas had 7 bagels, though I believe he lost more total games than borg.

Yup, because Borg won the entire tournament without dropping sets, while Vilas lost the first set in 2nd round. Gave 6 bagels after that.

He had 6 bagels altogether tho'. Not 7.

Borg dropped only 32 games at the 1978 French Open, with play like this. He's also the only player in the Open Era to have won Wimbledon without losing a set (1976 Wimbledon, his first title there).

yawp, #1 for game w%. Borg, Vilas* and Nadal have 7 of top 9, all on clay, which is expected as it's much easier to break on slower surface.

    * though you could asterisk 77 RG (no Borg)

Nalbandian probably holds the record for digesting more bagels (and other foods) in a slam. :)

Borg was so friggin' dominant on clay. That's why I laughed when somebody said in another thread that Fed was the second greatest clay courter after Rafa.

Three words, you are wrong. Weak era? For clay or overall, no way. In fact, it was one of the very toughest eras there has ever been. The top 10 of 1980 gives you all you need to know. Orantes, Vilas (twice) and Lendl, are three great clay courters that Borg beat in the finals of the French Open as examples.

My fault then Nadalgaenger. Thanks for clarifying. There were a lot of great clay courters competing during 1974-1981, including Nastase, Orantes, Panatta, Clerc, Higueras, Dibbs, Solomon, Pecci, Barrazzuti, Vilas, Noah, Gerulaitis, and Lendl.

This is an amazing thread. I would like to find out some sort of top ten list of which players handed out the most slam bagels in their careers. There does not seem to be any completed data on the internet about this..

Borg had 39 bagels in slams
    Fed is at 37
    Nadal is at 16

At first I was doing research about how many overall bagels a player has given out but that has little relevance since smaller tournaments do not compare with slams in the first place. Borg handed out 92 bagels outside of the slams and Fed has handed out only 38 outside of the slams.

Does anyone have any insight about this?

David Nalbandian managed 80 or so during one of his Slam runs.
