That's one of his arguments - if you read the interview. That in light of the Armstrong scandal, people are going to start assuming the worst of other sports, and so even if you are convinced your own sport is clean, it's important to the longer term image of the sport to demonstrate it is, so it is financially advantageous for authorities to grasp the nettle now.

Or are you just someone who wants to complain, and being annoyed that you can't complain about what has been said, are moaning about something else.

Do you agree or disagree with the suggestions? And if you do, does it matter if it is PR? And why shouldn't tennis players worry about the image of their profession being tarnished?

Honestly, I'd be suspicious of players who don't call for more testing at this point. Those who are clean would be offended by the suspicion towards them and would want it lessened, at least.

He's had enough testing. And he has said he's happy about there being more tests.

It is about decision and determination, cost?? come on.

Even that, what if they don't preserve samples? what if in 5 years time was discover that a former GS' champion had something?

Andre wrote a book saying I had some drugs but nothing happened in ATP/ITF.

The issue is very complex and demanding.

Nice attitude of Andy calling for more, but I thing they (players) should call for smarter tests to avoid be cheating.

the testing is a joke. It makes him look good asking for more testing but he knows it makes no difference. I wouldn't even be surprised if the ITF put him up to this.

Maybe he is suspecting that geriatric anaemic man who was coming off a vacation and took Andy to five sets playing his worst game, while Andy was in the form of his life looking like Hulk Hogan. :)

The drugs taken i thought were of the recreation kind......coke, pot, meth.....
Totally different animal than using performance enhances -

I also thought that the WADA tests tennis players on a regular basis with surprise visits - players must advise where they are and where they are going and will be tested anytime. Tipsy even blogged about having to wake up at 6am for a test whilst on holiday last year. I didn't think the WADA took crap for any federation.

yes but they're allowed to miss 2 tests OOC in an 18 month period. Which basically means if they come knocking and it's not a good day for you, you just don't answer (or hide in your panic room).

Like I said in another thread, Rafa and Murray were the most vocal top players to complain about the whereabouts rule and testing frequency...

now Murray wants more frequent tests including blood testing and Rafa has no problem with weekly controls.

Complete 180. This Armstrong thing has really shaken the tree.

All these guys, who were once adamant about how doping testing was ruining their private lives (Nadal and Murray in particular) must have been told by their PR people to go out of their way to ask for more testing in public, post the Lance Armstrong "revelations" (probably not the right word, since non-tards have known he was doping for a long while).

This is nothing more than a PR exercise because their earlier statements look so ridiculous (and frankly, suspicious).

If tennis was serious about fighting doping, they would have biological passports, and retain blood samples for 10 years, retesting them every 5 years.

The enforcers will always be behind the cheats. This allows the anti-drug people to discover the cheats at least in hindsight, when the players can be stripped of their titles, and sued to recover some of the prize money. Also, if that happens, I am sure sponsors will add clauses to contracts stating that they can recover their money if the athlete is found doing drugs.

The doping issue will simply disappear, because the probability of being caught will be much higher, and the consequences really bad.

Do you have any proof of your assertion that Murray was THE most vocal?
I remember one article where Murray talked about being woken up from his sleep at something like 7am before or after a big match. USO I think. Can't find the article.
I think I'd be grumpy about that wouldn't you?
Not even sure if he was complaining but said it was a bizarre experience having someone practically throw you out of bed harassing you to take a ****.
And I guess it would take a bit of getting used to as a young player which Murray was at the time.
And how would you react? Well hello, how do you do, feel free to batter the door, get me out of bed half asleep and make me literally **** myself.

Andy murray tweeted about testers showing up at his door and called them/rules a joke

andy murray made the comment about testing rules being draconion

andy murray made several statements in interviews about the tests being an invasion of privacy and the rules were too strict.

yeah, murray and Nadal were, of the top players, the most vocal in complaining about the rules.

    deal with it.

The only thing that I know is that you and I don't know how Andy Murray personally feels relative to other players and I don't intend wasting my time doing a sample if you'll excuse the pun.

If you've got the time why don't you cast back over the top 20 players tweets and other such things over the last 5 years and make sure you get large enough samples to prove a correlation.

    Thanks for all the comments:

This isn't about individual players: Boss, Muzza, Rafa, Fed, are all on record as saying they want more bloodtesting.

    For whatever reason

Murray has brought up 1 issue which has concerned all bodies: the cost of testing. If the Players (through the ATP) paid for testing this would solve the budgetary concerns.

Some posters are correct: certain PEDs are not detectable with blood testing, drug technology develops so fast that tests often come up negative.
It has been suggested that keeping blood tests up to 8 years may solve this problem. This would mean legislation would have to be changed so that any penalties could be retrospective(see Armstrong).
Notably Armstrong was caught because of the witness evidence that stacked up against him, not because of any positive tests.

The question is: Should tennis be funding the blood testing & carry on as if it is the solution? Or should tennis be more transparent (& intrusive)
& say that they will accept any evidence. Whether that is testing or witness based would have to be decided by the ITF.

I can understand any cynicism from posters who want to make this about their favourite player's rivals.

But this isn't about any 1 player.

I think the players & the media should be calling for more testing, more transparency.

    But that is just me.

Whoever said I know what he personally feels???? He could believe and personally feel the moon is made of cheese for all I know.

The dude complained, often, about the testing, thats all I said.

You said he wasnt one of the more notable complainers, I said he was.

Second, I didnt say he was the ONLY player to complain, I said he and Nadal were the most outspoken and their current change of opinion is a 180, which it is.

    Deal with it.

I hope anyone but England wins said in jest.
The funny thing is that's how 4.9 million Scotsmen feel as if it's such a shock.

I remember my local pub in Dundee just about exploded when Germany scored against England at one of the World cups years ago.

An old man came out and said Jesus I was killing these German basterds not so long ago, now I'm cheering for them!

It will if you complain about the whereabouts rule and testing procedure for years then all of a sudden say testing needs to be more stringent and demand blood testing. People tend to notice a complete 180

I didn't say that. Don't put words in my mouth.
I said what proof do you have that he's the biggest complainer apart from you saying that he is?
Maybe he was. Maybe he wasn't. Maybe he was just the same as most other players.

add this to the pot, and this was a story Id never heard.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/te...ystifies-International-Tennis-Federation.html

    "

Murray has made no secret of his dislike of the tough anti-doping rules that require athletes to provide detailed information of their whereabouts every day of the year. Under the revised World Anti-Doping Agency code, athletes must also nominate an hour every day when they will be accessible for testing.

When the new rules were introduced in 2009, Murray complained: “I don’t think anyone should have to tell people where they are every single day.”

He added: “I just wish that the out-of-competition testing was done in the off season and then they just test us at every single tournament. Then that’s fine, we could get tested 30 times a year. I think that’s enough to know whether someone’s trying to cheat or not.”

Thats a curious sentence(bolded) for the writer to use for a guy who doesnt routinely complain about doping controls.

And doesnt andy's statement seem odd considering he wants even tighter doping controls now?

Murray calls for more doping test - "oh he is guilty, that's why he calls for more"

Federer calls for more doping test - "Greatest champion to set foot on mother earth, clean as a newly washed carpet"

    Good logic by Pederer fans.

Someone won 17 slams and raked up 10 majors in 3 years without getting caught. The true pioneer of of doping in tennis!

Djokovic is up for the task, though. He wants to grind himself to 17 majors. Using PED's too for the matter.
