Well, I did live there for awhile. ;)

It does flatter me though that you think my English is good enough to pull this off.

That's YOUR opinion. I'm pretty sure that majority of people will take Fed over Murray any day. Like Fed is a bad taste, gimme a break.

That's not what I meant. I should have made myself clearer... Hating Murray equals having horrible taste. ;) Besides I barely agree with the majority, so all is good. I like forming my own opinions not blindly following what everyone else thinks is popular/awesome or the like.

Jesus, you people over-analyze everything. Murray has been denied a primetime slot because he has faced ridiculously bad competition. Nobody wants to see Murray beat down some scrub, when there the alternative of watching a competitive match between two top players.

I should be biased and agree with Andy's camp but given that he is playing Chardy, it's understandable Fed v Tsonga got the night slot. It might be different if it was Delpo v Murray.

Murray will get more favoured scheduling at Wimbledon and USO no doubt.

So living there for awhile is the same as being British? Good to know. I never liked Henman though. So I guess your point sucks.

I'm not very patriotic at all. I LOATHE Becker with a passion for example and he is the most successful Tennis player we (Germany) ever had.

Andy Murray is only well known in the UK and yes he won the US OPEN last year but I doubt most people outside of the UK know who he is. Murray is also extremely unattractive his game and his appearance. There are a lot of reasons why Roger and Novak get the night matches at the Australian Open. Murray isn't as handsome as Roger or Novak. Roger and Novak are not only better looking than Murray they have superior tennis credentials too. Roger and Novak get those important night sessions because they are multiple slam champions they have proven they aren't one slam wonders. Murray has ONE slam but he is not going to get star treatment outside of the UK until he starts to win more slam titles.

Nobody wants to see Murray's easy and boring wins. At least Federer is entertaining even when he's dominating because of his aggressive style of play.

Look buddy, you're the one who made a sweeping statement about Roger and his fans. If you like me to accept that a majority of Roger fans are fans really of his success, why don't you begin by accepting a majority of Andy Murray fans are brits? The way one seems logical to you, the other seems to me.

And btw, your point would about finding Murray's game interesting would be better taken if you weren't as condescending about it -

Tennis was played before Murray and a lot of people like Roger precisely for his tennis, if you've ever read anything about him in the papers.

I'd say about 95% of Murray's....fans...that doesn't sound right. I'd say about 95% of Murray's supporters/sympathisers are from the UK and around about 50% of those are Scottish, which is a large proportion when you consider the fan/population ratios in play.

I don't even want to start throwing numbers around with regards to Roger's fans. Needless to say that it's perfectly clear why Roger gets the night session. It is not clear, however, why Murray+camp are complaining.

Oh and because I like Murray, I know nothing about Tennis? BTW, I never even implied that I dislike Roger or his game. Just that Murray is my favourite (before him, it was Agassi). You know I didn't even say that I like Murray's game better than Federer's, just that I like Murray better than Federer. Are you seriously suggesting though and with a straight face that Roger would have as many fans if he had, say, Gasquet's career???? It's the same in every sport, don't be so naive. I didn't say you were a glory-hunter, did I?

Why am I not allowed to make sweeping statements? Everyone else in here is doing it. Implying that only Brits like Murray and that everybody hates watching him etc.

Fed has been RLA king since 2004. It has never had anything to do with his current slam count. People just like to watch him play.

Well, who else was there in 2004? Besides he was #2 back then, so it's pretty obvious. ;)

    Where did I say that?

Right here - "Besides I barely agree with the majority, so all is good. I like forming my own opinions not blindly following what everyone else thinks is popular/awesome or the like."

He's been voted fan favorite for 10 yrs straight - that's way before he was slam champion. He's also more popular than Sampras and Agassi - and they had their share of success (one on-court and the other probably more off it). By your measure, Serena should be the most popular female player - and right here on these boards, you'll find she has as many detractors (if not more) than fans.

Of course, you can do it. Just doesn't make your argument any better.

There is really no one who wants to see Muzza.

Tennis fans don't want to see his ugly game - and a lot of Aussies know their tennis.

Casual people are turned off by his personality and boring matches.

That leaves only diehard Muzza supporters and you can bet they don't exist outside the UK in any number.

People love to see Fed defuse big servers like Roddick, Raonic in a way only he can do. He can play retrieving style, attacking, great return of serve, whatever. Can Murray do it all?

Why didn't Roddick win ATP Fan Favorite in 2003? He won a slam finished YE #1. I guess the fans preferred Fed's playing style and personality right from the word go.

The organisers are right for 3 reasons.

    1. Federers matches have been against more 'box office' opposition. Murrays were all no names (bar an injured Simon, whose previous match was a snoozefest).

    2. If polled, you can guarantee the TICKET PAYING PUBLIC for the night match would want to see Federer over Murray - simple supply and demand. Im sure Federer would also generate higher TV ratings in the US. He has been on TV in the business end of the tournament for the last decade.

    3. Federer has been the face of tennis for 10 years, he has been in the top 3 for a decade pretty much. He is a multiple champion at the event, most acomplished player ever. He has earned this, as have Nadal and Djoker. With all due respect to Murray. He has one slam at this point in his career and hasn't even been number one. His time for this type of privilage will come in a few years. He will no doubt benefit from his prestige when he's Fed's age.

Don't be a diva Muzzah, you dont have the credentials for it!

I have to say, as a Fed fan, that hawkeye is right here, sorry nikdom. Nobody likes a nobody. Fed has a beautiful game, and it's part of the reason he's my favourite (in Canadian english ;)) player. But if he had no grand slams you can "bet your @ss" he wouldn't have near as many fans as he does. It's very simple.

Oh and P.S. smoledman is just pretending to be a Fed fan.

If Andriy Murrovich from the Ukraine was the world #3 player and yet was not accorded the basic courtesy of at least one night match at a Grand Slam, then you can bet YOUR ass that I would object and so would plenty of others. We don't give a rat's ass where the player is from. It is his ranking and how he got there that counts!

If the USO can afford the world #3 the courtesy of TWO night matches, then what the hell is the problem for the AO??

Ah, I wonder why. Could have had nothing to do with his style of play, which people called 'beautiful' and 'artistic', certainly can't be his sportsmanship (Roger swears like a sailor during matches if you haven't noticed), must have nothing to do with how he was beating his rivals - taking down fellow slam champ with double bagels in a slam final.

Hawkeye you're so right! Thank you for opening my eyes.

lol, you mean the place where they don't play at night? ;) I should hope so. Maybe Lendl will complain that he's not playing center court all the time there, but I don't see how that wouldn't happen unless Fed or Nole is playing.

Either way, the guy is #3 right now. When he's #1 and has all the slams in the pocket, then he can cry that he's not on center court all the time and during whatever hour he wants to play. Until then, I think his Gold medal and USO wins are going to his head.... something that some of us knew would happen given his repertoire. Humble is not a trait Murray has and certainly not one Lendl ever had. Whatever work Murray was doing to be more thankful for stuff he's getting is slowly going to go out the door if he continues to listen and act like Lendl.

I don't know if you guys remember, but Lendl and Mac had a match up that they were supposed to play in NYC last year and JMac rolled his ankle early or or during warmup or something. Lendl looked mighty disappointed and pissed that he couldn't finish the match, even though JMac was winning some nice points off him.

He had already won 4 slams. I'm not saying people don't appreciate his game. But that's not the reason why the majority of people like him. They like him because he was/is so damn successful. Having a nice game obviously helps. This doesn't only go for Roger btw. It goes for Rafa, Novak and Andy as well. Although to slightly lesser extends as they are less popular/well known.

    I'm always right, you're welcome.

    1. fed is bigger draw than murray ever will

    2. more ppl will be dissapointed of not seeing fed due to day match (hey, we Oz have to go to work you know!) than not seeing murray (i havent watch a single game of his and not missing much)

    3. more audience = more money

    4. money is good

he's been playing a bunch of nobody and in straight sets anyway, why is he complaining?? I mean, literally NOBODY, simon is the only seeded player and even then he's already tired and exhausted

Court assignments have very little to do with ranking and everything to do with ticket sales and tv rights.

If Muzza was #1 and Fed #3, you can bet the situation wouldn't be reversed.

Doesn't have the credentials? If winning the most recent Grand Slam plus the Olympic gold medal plus being in two consecutive AO finals and 3 consecutive AO semi-finals doesn't entitle you to at least ONE lousy night match at the Australian Open, then I'm speechless beyond words!

As I have said, the organisers of the USO respected him enough to accord him the courtesy of TWO night matches and the USO is second to none in its drive for ratings! So I can only repeat, why is it such a problem only for the organisers at the AO??

Ach you're right. What should a mere current Wimbledon finalist and Olympic and USO champion expect.
Spoilt brat expecting to get one night match.
Don't want to hear a peep from the 4th best player on the planet and above as well.
