If Murray finishes 2013 in the top 4, it will be his 6th consecutive year finishing in the top 4.

    Only Connors - 1973 - 1985
    Borg - 1974 - 1981
    McEnroe - 1978 - 1985
    Lendl - 1981 - 1990
    Wilander - 1983-1988
    Sampras - 1992 - 2000
    Federer - 2003 - 2012
    Nadal - 2005 - 2012
    Djokovic - 2007 - 2012

Have achieved this. Pretty good company.

The curious name there is Sampras, in that no names surround him who were a part of his era.

Possibly in terms of elite talents at the very top, but maybe there was less of a chasm between those elite talents who did always (Sampras) or sometimes (Agassi) step up to the plate and those below them than their is between the current 'big four' and those below them. Not sure.

But the lack of names surrounding Sampras is curious, no doubt.

I think he might have a shot at an even smaller list this year @ SW19. If he he makes semis, that'll be 5 semis in a row @ SW19.

Roger, Borg and Connors also did 5 straight semis or better at Wimbledon - any others?

If you don't count Nadal skipping 2009 then he counts as well.

Unfortunately, skipping stops the 'straight' part.

E.g after pulling out of RG, Murray lost the chance to make 4 straight slam finals. If he makes the wimby final, he can say he made the finals of the last 4 slams he played, but he can't say he made 4 straight slam finals.

    McEnroe..actually reached 5 finals in a row..then flopped with a QF in 85.

5 or more consecutive Wimbledon semifinals:

    Federer - 7
    Borg - 6
    Connors - 6
    McEnroe - 5
    Lendl - 5
    Edberg - 5

I think the last two would really surprise a lot of people. Interesting that Lendl's semifinal streak was longer at Wimbledon where he obviously never won than at the French Open where he won three times.

Thanks (and to Goosehead). Pretty cool list all the same. Surprise that Pete isn't there.

Yeah, interesting that Sampras was never able to reach 5 or more consecutive semifinals at one Grand Slam. He had a streak of 4 at Wimbledon twice. Compared to Federer who had streaks of at least 5 at all four. And streaks of at least 7 at three of the four. Pretty, pretty, pretty weak from old Pistol.

Shows how well Murray has done really against a stacked era at the top of the game.

Perhaps. I'm not saying it isn't so, do elaborate.

Rod Laver played in final of 6 wimbledons in a row he entered..first two reached the final, next four were winning the title..

but his pro career broke up the chronologically successive wimbledons.

Indeed, good list. Murray is certainly in with a good shot at going one better than last year.
