Hopefully an even better season coming up than last year.

Well done to him for winning in Brisbane last week.

Hopefully he can keep winning as the matches get tougher in the bigger tournaments.

Winning Wimbledon, better performances on clay and more consistency throughout the season would be my main hopes for him for the season.

What are other Murray fans' hopes?

I think he can win 2 slams. I am confident he will win Wimbledon and one other, hopefully Australia. A slight disappointment last year was his poor performances outside the slams and the Olympics. He only won 3 tournaments including Brisbane. If he wants to challenge for #1 he needs to perform better in the Masters series. I suspect with the slam monkey off his back, he will maintain his focus in all tournaments he enters - rather than primarily focusing on the next slam.

Any improvement on clay would be great, but I am not optimistic.

Main target has to be winning that second slam - anything else would be gravy.

I would like to see him be consistent again (like 08/09/10) at the non slam events - but not at the expense of the slam consistency he's built up these last 2 years.

I reckon he might get a shock french open win and at least a wimbledon final.

Wimby would be hard since it basically plays closer to clay than hard in the 2nd week

I think he'll win SW19. If he wins the big points and gets his head straight,he'll even win AO 2013. Will be a big contender for USO too.

He will win two majors this year either AO + Wimbledon or USO + Wimbledon.

He's got chances at all the slams except FO. Once this kid breaks the Wimbledon "curse" so to say, watch out. I think he has a great shot at doing that this year and will repeat USO. Starting to come around on this guy

Why would you think that? He did reach the Wimby final and won the Olympics 4 weeks later so I think Murray is on the upward trajectory as far as Wimbledon is concerned. He has every chance to winning his first W title this year.

Some worrying signs for him this year I think. His body language and mental game are still the most fragile of the top three guys and he hasn't gotten on top of it yet. To see him still hamstring grabbing after losing big points, talking to his box and self abusing at a rate of knots against the world no. 200 in Brisbane was disappointing. I would have thought having the monkey off his back would have brought him a modicum of swagger but he's still acting like a teenage brat at times. Lendl was left sighing and shaking his head. Time to grow up if he wants to overtake the other big guys. He can win a major or even two this year but he could just as easily implode when it comes to the pointy end of the big campaigns.

Maybe so but I feel like he's giving away an uneeded advantage to opponents by not getting in their heads with a more composed and positive presence. You could see the moment he crumbled at Wimbledon this year from the first time he started with the negative chatter and grabbing at phantom injuries. He seemed doomed from that moment on. Djokovic is much better at keeping a poker face and unnerving opponents with his presence on court.

Unfortunately, Federer has AO '13, FO '13 and Wi '13 in the bag. Murray's best chance is UO '13.

I am not a fan of Murray but he will be the dominant player this year IMO. Hes really the only one peaking right now.

I could see a few late bloomers giving him real trouble at the slams though. Maybe a hot Berdych could make a move if he learns to relax a bit on the big occasion. I think Novak is past his prime and will really taper off this year.

New crop of players is pretty pathetic right now and I dont see anyone posing a real threat.

And yet he went on to win the whole tournament.

Andy has a great chance at all of the slams bar the French. I'd love it if he won Wimbledon at some point in his career, and winning it this year would save a lot of stress and anxiety from the British press and give us something to get over not having the Olympics.

Congrats on being the first person to use that term about Murray.:)

So, Murray is at peak age and looks to still be gradually improving. He's made 5 slam finals and just won his first one. 1 of his rivals is ageing, another hasn't played for 7 months and he has a decent record against the other one. The only other guy in the top 50 who has won a slam is 1-5 against him.

Given all this -it surely begs the question - if Murray isn't winning any more slams, then who is?

I think I've warned you about this before, batz. What you're saying is unfortunately sounding like common sense.

You're at the wrong forum for that sort of thing.

Not wishful thinking. I think Murray will have a fantastic year. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins Wimbledon and a hardcourt slam(AO this time).

Why? Because we already saw peak Djokovic in 2011 and then in 2012 we saw him decline. He only defended a slam while Federer was able to defend his 3 slams from 2006 in 2007.

We have yet to see peak Murray.

We will see him in 2013. Lendl is the man.

He'll try for the #1 ranking, especially if Federer slips up early in the season.

His goal: 1 or 2 slams + as many other titles possible.

If Murray wins the AO, being number 1 prior to Wimbledon seems likely.

It will be a rehashing of 2012 with Murray fighting Djokovic for the #1 ranking and Federer staying back at #3 or #4. It's like they have switched roles.

I am not just saying this because of my personal opinions regarding certain ATP players but if that ever happened it would be a bigger travesty than when Rios or Wozniacki or Jankovic or Ivanovic of Safina took the #1 spot.

It would be an even bigger travesty than Anders Breivik being given the Nobel Peace Prize, wouldn't it?

    Continue your Murray-hate, it's amusing.

Yeah a guy with 9 masters and a major champion who has been in the top 4 for the past 5 years would be a TERRIBLE number one... And he would certainly probably be holding more GS titles in order to become number 1.

While It was an exaggeration, it is somewhat true. Most of Murrays accomplishments have been opportunistic to say the least... The gold was lost in the semi for Fed, had that match been Murrays he would have lost. The USO victory was just another sad performance from Nole, seems to be his MO against his good buddy Murray as of late. He def not playing Murray the same intensity he plays Rafa/Fed.
I also would say that Rios was the best player in the world, he was beating everybody on every surface just about. Made Andre look like an ameteur the few times they played before his injuries.

    What a load of crap.
If Murray were to make nr 1, you can be guaranteed that he's earned it.
He's the only one of the big 4 to win his first major against one of the big 4. Ie, the hard way.

After having just won Miami, I can see Murray making at least the SF of Wimbledon (or possibly final) and definitely have a chance of snatching another USO title. However, if he elects to play this passive, grinding brand of tennis at the USO, considering its somewhat fast hardcourt surface, he can say goodbye, unless it's windy and Windray starts kicking ass.

Can't see him doing well at RG. Will probably snatch 1 or 2 extra Master 1000 titles as well.

He'll play grinding, passive crap against everyone outside the top 4, because he'll win 99% of the time.

He can't beat lance, Ralph or fed playing that way, hence the more aggressive game plans.

His passive game isn't totally beneficial for Murray, though. He was passive vs. Dimitrov at Miami in the first set and nearly dropped it. He was extremely passive vs. Ferrer in the first set and got demolished. Besides, extensive rallies are harder on the body. If he wants any shot at doing well at RG, he needs to do more than being passive, even in the earlier rounds, since clay is one of the slower surfaces.
