    We all know that Murray is the most hyped player on tour. He didn't even make a GS final this year despite the hype though. What do you think his results will be this year?

    I personally don't think he'll make a semi-final all year. He might pick up a couple three set tournements but that's it.

    I think he can only win a GS on a HC.

    I will be putting money on it.

    I'll certainly be more confident with that than putting money on him not making a slam semi :oops:

    Its funny, when a mans down how people can't help but kick him, but once he starts winning Masters Series again; people will begin to talk up the hype.

    Murray can still out play anyone on a hardcourt when on song baring perhaps Federer. He went in against Cilic with the wrong tactics, everyone knows he can play offensive when he wants, i don't think he'll make the same mistake in future. The coaches will sort it.

    My predictions....

    Australian Open - Winner
    French Open - Quarter Finalist
    Wimbledon - Semi Finalist
    US Open - Finalist

    Murray will win at least two more Masters titles, probably all on hardcourt, and some other three set tournaments like Doha and Queens. He has no chance at the French, too much pressure at Wimbledon, so IF he wins a Slam it will be at the Australian Open (I think Federer will get the USO back).
    I don't really like Murray, but he has a legit shot at the AO if he plays a little bit more agressive...

    Nadal fans are outraged @ how legendary pro's such as Agassi, Mcenroe and co are continuously tipping Murray for grandslams over their beloved one. So, therefore, in their World he is over hyped.

    He's won 2 Masters Series Events, 1 ATP 250 Event, reached the Quaters of the French, Semi's of Wimbledon and the round of 16 of each of his so called more suited grandslam events and hes had a bad year apparently.

    Try and note all the grandslams Murray's has been tipped for have been slams other than the French Open. So it'd be fair to say Nadal has 2 titles when drawing upon the "whos favourite" comparisions.

    Given Nadal is a clay court specialist (brilliant on other surfaces as well i know) its not hard to imagine highly knowledgeable pro's would foresee Murray as a greater challenger to Rafa on hardcourt surface slams, given his track record.

    Its also not Murray's fault he keeps being tipped for stardom, all he's doing is going about his own business winning Masters Series.

    I'm not here to sit with you and have school playground banter over whos the bestest of the best because they bested @ more of the bestest grandslam events.

    I'm simply trying to make you all see that it wasn't in actual fact... hype .... as a lot of dim people on this board like to call it. Commentators were witnessing Murray's potential and couldn't see anything stopping him on his all favourite hardcourt surface.

    How do you define hype?

    You have to realize that Murray has been considered as possibly the best HC player for quite some time but in the end, Nadal has been the most successful player on this surface this year until now, with Fed a close second, and Del Potro just took the third place with his USO win. Murray is still ahead of Djokovic though, but considering his latest results I think Djoko is finally getting out of his slump and could catch up with Murray before the end of the year.

    Btw, how do you analyze the fact that Murray's worst runs at slams this year happened on HC?

    I have to disagree.

    Lets say Grandslam hardcourt wins are valued @ 5 points and Masters series shields are valued @ 4... with 500's @ 3 ... 250 @ 1

    Murray's Hardcourt record in 2009

    ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Canada (Outdoor/Hard) - 4 points
    ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami (Outdoor/Hard) - 4 points
    Rotterdam (Indoor/Hard) - 1 point
    Doha (Outdoor/Hard) - 1 point

    Total 10 points

    Nadal Hardcourt record in 2009

    With this a final @ the 2009 (1) ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Indian Wells (Outdoor/Hard)

    ^Where he lost to Nadal due to extremely windy conditions. (But never mind that anyway)

    Australian Open (Outdoor/Hard) - 5 points
    ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Indian Wells (Outdoor/Hard) - 4 points

    Total 9 points

    Reached the Rotterdam final (Indoor/Hard) - Where he lost to Murray in 3 sets

    HEAD TO HEAD ON HARDCOURT THIS YEARS 1-1

    Del Potro's Hardcourt record in 2009

    US Open (Outdoor/Hard) - 5 points
    Washington (Outdoor/Hard) - 3 points
    Auckland (Outdoor/Hard) - 2 points

    Total 10 points

    Also reached the final of the 2009 (1) ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Canada (Outdoor/Hard)

    I honestly think it is too early to tell who was the best hard court player of the year. It is too close between all of Federer, Del Potro, Nadal, even Murray (though hard to give it to Murray with round of 16 losses in both slams). The end of the year will tell who that is.

    Federer's Hardcourt record in 2009

    ATP World Tour Masters 1000 - 5 points

    But he reached 2 of the hardcourt grandslam finals losing 2 very closely fought 5 set thrillers. That in itself deserves atleast several points.

    How about GS's are 2000 points, so that's double MS's and not 1/4 more? Your value system is completely pulled out of the ass.

    Why draw arbitrary points out of your hat when the ATP provides the ranking points?

    I mean, come on, basically with your system, Federer was a nobody on HC this year...

    Btw, there's something wrong with your points. Del Potro earns 2 for Auckland? What kind of tournament is it in your system? Neither 250 nor 500...

    What would seem fair in your view then?

    2000 - 20 points
    1000 - 10 points
    500 - 5 points
    250 - 2.5 points

    Murray = 2 masters series and 2 250 events = 25 points
    Nadal = 1 slam and 1 masters series = 30 points
    Del Potro = 1 slam, 1 500 event and 1 250 event = 27.5
    Federer = 1 masters event and 2 grandslam finals losing in 5 sets @ each = 27.5 points?

    Nadal - 30
    Federer - 27.5
    Del Potro - 27.5
    Murray - 25

    So Nadal comes out on top going with your system. Debateable, huh?

    I could quite easily spend more time on it and give points for runner up places.

    Hey, i might just do that

    Runner ups

    2000 - 10 points
    1000 - 5 points
    500 - 2.5 points
    250 - 1.75

    Federer - Runner up in 2 slams = 20 points
    Murray - Runner up in a masters series = 5 points
    Del Potro - Runner up in a masters series = 5 points
    Nadal - Runner up in a 250 event = 1.75 points

    Adding that to......

    Nadal - 30
    Del Potro - 27.5
    Murray - 25
    Federer - 10

    GRAND TOTAL!
    Del Potro = 32.5
    Nadal = 31.75
    Federer = 30
    Murray = 30

    Hardly anything between them all.

    Let's agree to disagree then, but please stop messing with maths. I mean, since when 1.75 is the half of 2.5? :shock:

    If you want to know, I've based my own HC rankings by adding the ATP points of each player for the mandatory HC tournaments of 2009 (that is HC slams and Masters 1000). And I got:

    1. Nadal 4400pts
    2. Federer 4300pts
    3. Del Potro 3600pts
    4. Murray 3320pts
    5. Djoko 2640pts

    Mostly out of laziness, because I don't remember for all of those events if they were played on HC or not. But also because since they are not mandatory, the top players do not enter each and every one of them, thus it's very rare to have the full field of top players in one of them.

    Imagine how Federer feels when he makes it to the finals of every GS (2 sets away from a Calendar slam) and yet people start asking if he'll ever win another major again...
