My theory on why Roddick changed his game

That's not a lie; Murray was overhyped coming into pretty much every event barring the FO.

Ironically that was the only slam in which he met expectations.

I'm not one to harp on weak draws, but that Wimby draw was just too easy (Kendrick, Gulbis, Troicki, Wawrinka, Ferrero . . . . huh?). Despite this he was taken to 4 and 5 sets by two guys with a combined record of 12-22 on grass. He lost to the first real challenge he encountered.

Theirs a difference between being the second favourite(which murray was),and what he said.

No, according to tennis critics and even bookies, he was the slight favorite over Roger Federer and Nadal to win the Australian Open.

Wimbledon he was right on par with Federer based on bookies, and was picked by many to win a slam there.

The USO again he was picked by many to win here again.

Noticing a trend here?

If Roddick kept playing the way he was in 2003-2004 and made only minor tweaks rather a drastic overhaul he would probably have around 4 slams today instead of 1. His coach firing decision after the 2004 was a foolish knee jerk reaction to not winning a slam that year. I understand he was dissapointed to not win a slam but he isnt someone who is going to win 10 or more slams anyway so realistically there are going to be alot of years he isnt going to win one. It doesnt mean he wasnt on the right course and wasnt going to win some in the future. There is no coach that could make him a dominant player like Sampras, especialy with Federer and later Nadal around, he simply isnt that good, but he could have been a multiple slam winner and a bigger scare to Federer like in 2003-2004 had he stayed with Gilbert.

One of the biggest reasons Roddick is playing better lately is because he now keeps his eye on the ball. Before Stefenki, I had literally never seen a picture of him with his eye on the ball. Now, he's improved dramatically. I have some pictures that demonstrate this. How do you attach an image to a post?

You must really stop smoking crack.

this is one of the best of your posts i've ever read.

Karlovic moves better than Roddick. Regardless of his height he still does. Furthermore, Karlovic can volley a ball as oppose to Roddick who is the worst vollyer in the top 10.

i'm a karlovic fan, so perhaps biased toward him, and still your statement is laughably and utterly false.

tell me when karlovic can move this well.

yes karlovic is a much better volleyer, your point is? we were talking about their movement.

Roddick in 03-04 was known as a super agressive player who would serve bombs and blast forehands, but since 05 he was played a more percentage and safe game and doesn't hit as hard, he's my theory on why he changed his game. Imo it took alot out of Roddick playing the way he used to, he isn't a talented ball striker so hitting the forehand as hard as he did took alot out of his body, unlike guys like Federer, Sampras and Agassi who hit forehand winners with ease because they are talented ballstrikers, Roddick had to use is own strength rather than timing. If Roddick continued to play like that his arm would have most likely have gone completley dead, thats why he changed his style. Your thoughts?

except Federer, everyone looks like hitting the ball using only strength.
who isn't? Nadal is, Djokovic is, murray is. They struggle with their body. or just look at their faces when they strike the ball. Roddick is just the same as them. in fact, all of ATP minus Federer does the same.

get the picture?
