OK, here goes my first Talk Tennis post. I put the top 10 players I've seen (since 1970) into a tournament to be played on Wimbledon's Center Court.

    TOP BRACKET
    #1 Sampras v. (winner of #7 McEnroe v. #10 Agassi)
    #4 Nadal v. #5 Borg

    BOTTOM BRACKET
    #2 Federer v. (winner of #8 Edberg v. #9 Becker)
    #3 Connors v. #6 Lendl

Who wins? Which player complains about their draw/seed? Which matchup would you look most forward to seeing?
(Honorable Mentions to Wilander and Djokovic who just missed making the field of ten.)

    Its a Williams/ Navratilova final

who wins depends on the balls, the court and the weather. If the ball is bouncing up at all that day, Williams wins. If the the ball is staying low and skidding Martina wins.

the more riveting match will be the Evert- Navratilova semi, just as it always was when they were both playing their best grass game. Their best grass matches were the best tennis matches I ever saw. Every shot in the book, every tactic in the book at any time during the match.

I can't imagine why we care who complains or doesn't.

 I don't really imagine the players complaining but I thought some posters would put themselves in someone's shoes (say Becker for example) and feel they should be seeded higher (than Edberg).

Mcenroe versus Lendl, would be the matchup of the century. I'm assuming these players would all be at their prime. In which case I think Mcenroe would be the clear winner.

Edited: That's who Is like to see. Lendl probably wouldn't make it past Connors.

What type of grass are they playing on? The difference between slow and fast grass can make or break players like Nadal or Lendl.

Well, not really bad list. Why not make a draw of 16? mine is ( only 1968 onwards)

    Sampras vs Ashe
    Wilander/Smith vs Mc Enroe
    Federer vs Newcombe
    Connors vs Rosewall
    Edberg vs Nadal
    Vilas vs Laver
    Agassi vs Becker
    Nastase vs Borg

If it is to be played on grass. But since grass is so different now, it really doesn´t make any sense.

Sorry OP, but to me, an ultimate tournament should not be giving byes to certain players while others have to play the first round. Either make it a draw of 16 or 8.

Is this meant to be a tournament of the best 10 Wimbledon/grass players since 1970? Or just the best 10 players overall? Because I'm not sure Lendl would qualify for the former list.

I like this but with two caveats. if it's played in 1976 with wood racquets. Borg wins. if it's played in 2013, Sampras wins.

Federer, Borg, Nadal, Sampras are the heavy favorite.

    McEnroe is a darkhorse.

Lendl, Connors, Agassi, Becker, Edberg don't really have a chance.
