Nadal and Federer bashing........I HATE IT!!

Do you guys have nothing better to do than to always bash the top 2 players in the world. Tennis is a very traditional sport, and i think because Nadal has a game that has never been seen before, a winning spirt that is very rare, and much respect for his opponents all of the time, people dont like the change. in this years French Open, there were many calls that were called in Nadals favor, but he told the umpire to over rule them because he knew the play was good, and he wanted to win the tournament the right way. He didnt want to win cheap, we wanted to know he was the true champion, and he earned it. The only thing you can blame him for bring a new excitment and fan base to the game.

Oh yea, and he's beating all of your american men. i know people that hate Nadal because she beat Roddick in the Davis Cup final. Im American go, and i do like Roddick and Agassi, but they do not bring excitment to the game like Nadal does. If not for Roddicks serve, he would not be all that great. Nadal has an all around game that right now cannot be stopped. To beat Agassi on a hard court " Agassi's best service, and in the blazing heat"Agassi's best condition" You have to give him credit.

About the Federer bashing, the man is the best, of coarse people are not going to like him. People will always go for the under dog in tennis, and Federer is never the under dog " except when playing Nadal on clay". Alot of Americans dont like Fed for spanking Roddick in 2 straight Wimbledon finals.

All im saying, is give these guys some credit for what they have achieved. Im not saying you have to like them, just stop doubting thier achievments.

It seems to be quite common and has been for years: bashing any class European player who comes along and owns the best that America can offer.
Ditto, with Borg, Lendl, Becker, etc

I just don't like Nadal for his punk-like attitude. He "vamos"s in his opponent's face. I find that to be very rude and disrespectful like an "OHH! IN YOUR FACE!"

Let's get a few things straight, once and for all, so we don't have to have these endless debates, mud-slinging, hurt egos and verbal bloodshed on Nadal or Federer (depending on who's currently hogging the tennis headlines). Here goes.

If Nadal wins, then:
1) He must be on steroids (no evidence necessary, pure conjecture is sufficient)
2) He's a freak of nature (see, even his torso doesn't look like a "real" 19-year old's)
3) He didn't have quality opposition (everyone he played to get to the final is a wuss, or all the opponents that could have taken him out weren't playing in the tournament)
4) It's because he played on clay (where he's supposed to win, although those wins don't "count"), or he played on "slow" hardcourt (which is the same as clay, so it doesn't count), or he played on fast hardcourt, but the Penn balls made it seem like "slow" hardcourt because they took more topspin and bounced higher (see comments about clay).

If Federer wins, then:
1) See (3) above.
2) It's because he was playing on grass (which is for cows, and therefore doesn't count), or a fast hardcourt, which plays like grass (see comment about grass).
3) It's no big deal, he's supposed to win (in fact, if he loses, then it's not a mere loss but a sign that he never was the great champion everyone supposed him to be).
4) It's because he happens to be playing in an era where there's no Sampras, Becker, Edberg, or Lendl (if those guys were still around, they would literally and figuratively whup his behind with wood racquets, even if they had never played with wood themselves).

All clear now? Well, if there are no more questions, let's move on then.

the way it seems to me is people envy the greatest because they are mad they arent where they are.
to try and bring them down a bit they find the worst things about them and try and exploit them. key word *try*. most who bash are just blowing hot air, and everyone but them knows it.
hence you dont see anyone bashing the number 100 in the world even if he acts as bad as the one who they are talking about.

Good post. I'm afraid that's what this Pro Player Talk is lately all about - bashing. Maybe Pro Wrestling Talk is more refined and civilized. :)

Wow everyone bashing Federer or Nadal? Are you kidding me? Quite the contrary ive heard nothing but Federer and Nadal love on this board except for a few people. You want everyone to love them and bow down to their feet. Look how many users have Rafa or Fed in thier names and tell me how "everyone" is bashing Nadal. "Everyone" is bashing Roddick from what im reading.

Roddick has not achieved any great feats this year. He is not living up to his potential nor his expectations. People have a reason to talk bad on Roddick, because this years season has not been a great one for him.

Great post there is so much jealously of great players and unfortunately it trickles down to the junior level. My niece trains at same club as top Russian American junior and my brother was always hearing nonsense rumors about how his father was a Russian mobster and that's how they could afford tennis travel. Obviously it was pure bs like so much of this stuff about Nadal and Fed.

Sorry for the off-topic too, but Chelsea are not one of the 'greatest clubs' in the world. Only Chelsea themselves and the newly-found glory hunters claim they are.

Roddick is at least better than Ljubicic. I see no one bashing Ljubicic. On the other hand i remeber people praising Ljubicic for beating the dreaded USA and for his numerous finals at the begining of the year. What happed? I dont even hear from that peanut croation anymore.

Exactly. To me it sounds like some of you are relying on ghost critics to position yourselves against in order to heighten your praise for Nadal and Federer. There are like -3 people on here who are crazy enough to argue that Fed and Nadal don't deserve their wins/aren't so great/etc. You're better off just ignoring these people rather than pretending like they're legion and you're in some special minority of Fed/Nadal fans or something.

Bashing someone like Federer or Nadal seems to make the basher feel at least somewhat of an equal. By bashing, the otherwise nobody gets to be the judge of someone important, someone truly great. I get this feeling every time I read a "bashing" post that the post is written by a misfit, a total loser trying to escape his or her own insecurities. I am so glad that we had some truly marvelous reports from tourney attendees, like Marius Hanku. Those are the kind of posts that make this message board great....**** the bashers.

I agree.

Alot of people, including myself, watch Fed in awe. Personally I am amazed that two talents like Sampras and Roger came along so close together.

I don't even see that many people out and out bashing Roddick. Alot of the criticisms of A-Rods game come in response to his supporters claiming he would have beat Fed w/o a rain delay or if he hit this shot or that. In truth his game just doesn't match up well to Fed's and if any other player gets past his serve Andy's bh is exploitable.

Rafa while amazing is still an unknown quantity on fast courts right now IMO, even after his win in Canada. His heart, speed and hitting style are amazing. Even though his serve proved problematic for Agassi all match long, w/o significant improvement, I still see it as ultimately exploitable by a greater number of fast court players on hard courts. The healthy scepticism is also bred from other player's recently who excelled on clay but couldn't repeat the success on faster surfaces, Moya, Ferrero, Gaudio, etc. Nadal's win in Montreal was as good as he could do, you can't fault him for the level of competition in the rounds leading to the final. However, the fact is that his first three rounds were against clay-courters and his win in the semis was over an improving but 67th ranked player in the world. His final against Agassi was a good win on hards. But just like clay gives no-name clay-courters an edge over better fast court players, Nadal will have to face more of those same fast court players who will be on a surface favoring instead of thwarting their bigger serves and flatter hitting style. See Berdych. If he holds up on hards facing more of those fast court players he will have proved himself. Wanting to see that before annointing him the heir apparent is not bashing, to me.
