Nadal/Monaco went to quite a few 30-30 games on Nadal's serve...

What do you guys think? Cause for a little concern as the likes of Almagro, Ferrer and Murray come along who are by far superior to Monaco and are coming with confidence on clay based on recent results(except Murray who is working into form)?
Nadal's serve may or may not be a weapon. I'm not sure yet because his draw thus far hasn't pitted him against a world class returner of serve with a decent weapon.
I think things are looking a bit more interesting than I originally thought.

Sadly, I don't think this is an indicator of any sort. If you own your opponent you can allow yourself to play a bit loosely at times. Check Federer

Monaco is a good player, he has a Ferrer type game. Its surprising he does not give Nadal more fight, . On the other hand, Ferrer hurts Nadal pretty much.

This is true as well. Sometimes top players get bored and don't feel that the foe is any threat and one can afford to play a little loosely although Nadal seemed like he really wanted to send a message to Djokovic and Federer with this performance. That's how I saw it. He saw that Djokovic and Federer played badly yesterday and used today as his opportunity to make them a little worried by crushing Monaco.
I think he particularly is sending the message to Djokovic. It will be interesting to see how Djokovic responds tomorrow and it will show whether Djokovic after having his scare is now deadly serious that he wants to take Nadal's trophy in Paris by bringing his best game.

It's not really that surprising. Monaco has no weapons and never does well in the Slams. He goes out in the first or second round most of the time so the fact he made it this far in the draw is a surprise.

Your arguments (30-30 on Nadal's serve and Monaco is hopeless in slams) must have been drawn from the very bottom of the well. It is rare to see a bagel, let alone two. Monaco is still very good and the fact Nadal dominated him the way he did is slightly scary. If Federer got the same scoreline, the entire forum would erupt with threads saying the old Fed is back. But for Nadal of Nole, you have to find any arguments possible. When the hell did you get that statistic, anyway?

Agreed. He must show that he is unstoppable as this will affect the mental side of things should they both reach the final. That said, I don't know how Nadal is dealing with being the massive favourite here by demolishing everyone so far. There was always talk of some sort in the past that we called preemptive excuse making and pressure venting. I haven't heard him making stupid comments recently but might have missed it

I think that's why Schwank won 8 games, Nadal looked utterly bored during that match. Schwank didn't even seem able to give him a decent workout.

Nadal seems to like being the favorite so far, dropping just 19 games in 4 rounds (and the all-time record for an entire slam is 32 games lost). btw is this the first time Nadal has ever been the odds-on favorite at Roland Garros? Was he kind of the shared/arguable favorite during his 6 RG titles

He lost 2 games in 3 sets to a top 15 player.

And you're wondering if there is cause for conern about Nadal's form? Seriously?

Lol @ Ferrer beating Rafa on clay. He will fight hard and end up gassed by the end like the other 57 times.

That's if Ferrer gets past Andy Murray. That's no sure thing.

Even though everyone seems to think Ferrer is a lock to beat Andy. I know it's clay, but Andy is a solid player.

    This has happened before...

From the USO '11 where Nadal crushed Roddick 6-2 6-1 6-3 then beat Murray in 4 sets. Better luck this year!

i said that in the RG discussion thread as well. nadal was really being brutally effective out there. you could tell it was eating away at monaco that from 2-2 in the first he had 30 all or deuce in just about every game (on his and on nadals serve) but he lost them all -.-

it couldve been something like 6-4 6-3 6-4. but still he never had a chance. nadal knew it, monaco knew it. and thats how it goes then

Seriously, you spoke my mind. I also felt it that way. I felt Rafa wanted to convey that he meant business and he would have that mental edge if he meets Roger or Novak. I think he badly wants to win it as he knows that he has to wait almost an year to get another slam. That said I guess it's gonna be very tough for anyone to beat him as he would rather die fighting than lose at RG. But then it's Tennis, and anything can happen

He was the favourite most of the time but usually he proclaimed someone else as having a better shot. I might be mistaken though.

Nadal is rusty, because of too little match play.

Monaco pretty much pushed Nadal to 30-30 in every single of his service game, but just couldn't get to 40, or Rafa got there first. That was the problem.

i dont know. Nadal tends to get involved in funny injuries, o i wouldnt be surprised if he injured himself in the sexual games of the match vs Monaco!
