Interesting article. It also says Fed's being criticised in Switzerland also for an alleged lack of commitment to the DC. It says he might not want to play either Basel nor DC for schedule reasons.

The Mallorcan language is Catalan, the Mallorqui dialect of the language.

How very interesting. Some of the Federer fans went nuts when Nadal reluctantly decided to play at Halle this year instead of at Queen's Club, where Nadal cited the chance of losing money due to tax bureaucracy if he lost before the quarter finals at Queen's Club. Double standards?

Don't tell me where to post person who has 50 accounts and constantly bashes any player whose name is not Nadal.

I was replying to another person's post about the subject!

I read the info by chance yesterday and thought "I'm pretty sure that nobody will mention that on the forum".
Federer is Swiss. He's lucky to pay very few taxes while staying at home, but his fans attack the other players. If he was spanish, he would probably have his residence in Andorra.
Of course, Federer is greedy. Someone who loves living in Dubai can't be different.

Yep. I'd think that if Cataluña would become an independent country, there would come the issue of whether Valencia and the Balearic Islands would join them.

Lol, of course. Maybe we should start a few threads saying how greedy Fed is ;)

I just think all the fedoper spam in every other thread is enough, so let's keep fedoper out of Nadal News.

If I had 50 accounts, you would have named them by now. If I had TWO accounts you would have named them too. But you can't, because I don't.

Well, according to Marca,Nadal is supposed to start very light practicing next week. He won't be moving around much, just hitting to get his timing back. After hearing so many different time frames as to when he is supposed to start practising again,I'll believe it when I see it.

How many times have we heard this same story since Nadal's "injury"--i.e. that he will start practising next week? What a joke.

Yeah I mean its not like Nadal is injury-prone or anything. Its not like he was supposed to retire by age 26. I mean, Nadal being injured for half a year just doesn't add up, when we all know Nadal has been in excellent physical health for the last 8 years and since we never saw any sign that he would struggle with injuries after his flawlessly healthy 2009.... I mean its not like you are insane or a joke or anything like that.

So, I found Rafa did say something on the subject of bullfights. Apparently someone asked him what he thought about it in a blog he did for The times in 2008, he answered "Personally I'm not an aficionado/fan of bullfights, but they are a part of the culture and tradition of my country".

Not exactly a good answer, but at least he confirmed he doesn't like them/watch them, which as far as I'm concerned it's definitely a relief, so I thought I'd share it (especially after I found out Iker Casillas goes to bullfights, seriously, what is wrong with these people?, I think I'm going back to supporting Barcelona).

I did find this on a couple of pro-bullfights websites, which apparently considered (or pretended to consider) Rafa's answer as some sort of support for them, but I beg to disagree.

i looked in on rafas facebook page and i noticed a fresh photo of him working out in the gym (and not the tennis court)..

so 'scooby doo' or 'the red hand gang' might be able to solve the mysterious mystery of nadals mysterious injury.

Nadal is going to be in the gym a lot for the next few months AND the tennis court. So if you see a photo of him in the gym, does it suggest he never trains on the tennis court? No. It means part of his training is in the gym, as it logically will always be.

Personally speaking I find bull-fight to be inhumane and gross.I can never support can sport which involves killing and blood spilling.I just can't understand how any sane human can enjoy sport like this.Latin american countries are the ones in which bull-fighting is popular, right cristi?
    Such as Spain and Mexico?

Bullfighting is basically popular in Spain (how popular, I'm not sure). It usually doesn't exist in Latin American countries, I know it was forbidden in Chile for its cruelty by O'Higgins early early on Chile's independent life... I do think it exists in Colombia, and maybe Mexico, but I think nowhere else.

What does exist in Chile is rodeo, a considerable less cruel "sport", since it isn't supposed to involve blood nor killing any animals, but it's definitely cruel nonetheless.
It is not the same thing understood as rodeo in the US.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodeo#Chile
BTW, the article says rode is the second most popular sport in Chile after football, but that is complete nonsense. That would definitely be tennis.

He has not started training on court. He has been working out in the gym and that's it.

To be fair to him he might just not want to be seen as attacking his own country. Nadal is known for being proud of his country but I don't get the feeling he would ever be in favour of bullfighting. I'm also not sure if there's more tradition with this in Catalan areas or elsewhere in spain or no difference.

I think unless you ever see him at a bullfight, then you have to give him the benefit of the doubt

I give him the benefit of the doubt. I very much doubted he supported them before finding that quote I posted. And I believe him that he's not a fan (which I understand to mean he doesn't go to them, doesn't watch them on TV, etc... if he'd ever been to one I'm sure there'd be pictures). Plus, bullfights are not popular in the part of Spain he's from (they're even forbidden now in Cataluña).

I do not think though he opposes them and is just being R in not saying it publicly.

Not too great honestly, but I'll take it.

I can't imagine Rafa not letting the fans know when he steps on the court again. That wouldn't be his style. He knows that fans are really anxious to see him pick up a racquet again. I doubt he won't officially announce it when that happens or that there won't be some leak by whoever knowing he has been to the practice court.

I agree, some Nadal fans would want to know if he was training on the court. And apparently most of Federer's fans obsess over Nadal too. However, the best thing Nadal can do is stop making announcements/predictions at this point. I would rather not have the pointless updates (as they make no difference to his date of return). Either way, whether he's on the court last week, now or next week, odds are he's returning at Abu Dhabi. And if he doesn't, then he'll return later.

Fact is, in 2009 Nadal was playing exhibition matches vs Hewitt a couple of days before withdrawing from Wimbledon. So take the updates seriously at your own peril.

Sadly is still very popular in México, you still get to se a 50,000 people "plaza" (think of a gladiator's arena) with sell-out crowds year after year. Smaller "plazas" al around the country still held bullfights quite often

I agree! I have stopped reading about Rafa. Only interested in a comeback date! I have no interest in all this no news updates! or of his off court activities. I just like Rafa the tennis player!!. This no show charade has gone on long enough. He will have no fans left soon because I am starting to forget about him.

    Article on Elmundo.es. Relevant parts:

    The Beginning of the Return

    Toni Nadal:
"Next week we will get back to the courts, that is what we intend".

(About watching the DC tie) "He's going to adapt the physio and physical training schedule in order to be able to be in his home at the time of the matches"

(Asked whether they will see the tie together) "No, no. I in my house and he in his".

Marc López: "I've been in touch with him, he's always alert to the team, cheering us".

Recuperating Rafael Nadal back on practice court

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpPYhmswzMo&feature=em-uploademail

They say the training lasted 1 hour.

“Now another phase comes, which is the one of starting little by little, of going day by day, of having the patience to find the right moment when all is well, when my body will be ready to compete again”.

About retirement rumours: “I don’t feel either with the age to do it, nor my injury in any moment has been such as to retire anyone”.

About possible conflicts in the DC team: “Among players and teammates there can never be a polemic when we all get along very well. No, I think everything possible was done and I just congratulate them for the great work they've done”.

What he posted under the video (for English speaking fans, evidently":

"I think I am feeling better, the knee is improving the right way and I am happy to be on court another time after a few months outside.

I am just enjoying the feeling to be playing tennis another time and, well, it will be another period of my recovery.

I start very slow and I go day by day. I will work hard in my comeback and hopefully the knee will be ready soon.

Always you have to be careful. A few months outside of competition the body has to re-adapt everything on court and all the muscles need to start very slow.

Every day is better otherwise I wouldn't be on the court.

The images say the evolution has been favorable and that is reason for satisfaction after many months of working and waiting.

It is now another phase where I´m starting little by little and going day by day with patience to find the right moment when all is well and my body will be ready to compete and when my knee is ready."
