I've always read where Rafa came from a wealthy family. I've never seen anything to the contrary.

I'd be really curious to know whether this is true.

Why? It's always been reported that way.

The notion that he wasn't rich comes from those who wish to think that way, imo. Some people assume all rich people act alike, and I don't think that's the case.

He definitely acts like he came from a rich family, but for some weird reason I don't remember ever reading that.

Not just tennis either. They could use him as an example of how a real sportsman behaves and inject some of his way of behaving into some of the football players here in the UK

It has nothing to do with what I think. It's what the truth is that is important. Just because some reporters have repeated an old canard doesn't make it true, just like the old story that Uncle Toni made Rafa play with his left hand. Rafa's family was not always rich. They are now. They were never poor. They were comfortably middle class until Rafa's father and uncles did some real estate development and made some wise investments. No one is claiming that they aren't a wealthy family now.

I've always kind of had a crush on Tomeu Salva. I wonder if he plans of playing tennis again. Marc Lopez goes everywhere with Rafa

Sent it back through yahoo. I don't get the pm function here.

I don't remember how far back these are. But it amazes me that people can stay in love that long. Never happened to me for that long so it's foreign to me. I still reckon the time they spent apart plays a huge part. Absense makes the heart grow fonder and all that malarchi. Plus like I said before, she IS Mallorca to Rafa. :(

Roger and Mirka did it for 9 years! Except they were together 24/7. Now that I don't get!

CMM - thanks for the pics, pretty hilarious that he looks just as intense while golfing as he does while playing tennis.

Babbette - I'm sure she will regret that one day. Well at least she didn't tattoo on his face.

No, he doesn't (ever sit still). I'm tired just reading about everything he does! And on top of that, Nalby has said in a recent interview that Rafa sleeps very little
Rafa is some kind of radical upgrade to "type A": type AAA like the batteries. (hyperactive doesn't even start to describe him)
I don't know how Xisca (or anyone else :)) could possibly keep up with a guy like that. He literally never stops. I could use a tiny fragment of that energy for myself. Rafa makes me feel like an uberlethargic slug

I'm pretty sure Xisca has quit trying. She's barely ever around. I don't see any photos of her here. She just sits of the beach and works on her tan =)

Maybe because there is more to love than "being in love". Lust doesn't last forever but that's not the only thing that keeps a couple together. (cough, cough, I don't mean to preach, sorry!)
The 24/7, yeah, pretty co-dependant, I couldn't do it either. I was commenting on the 9 years together mostly...

They're the anti-Fed/Mirka couple I must say. They spend an enormous amount of time apart and they don't seem to depend on each other (professionally or otherwise). They're super independent. I'm definitely somewhere in the middle. The Mirka/Fed type would literally drive me up the wall (I need some air, private space) but the Rafa/Xisca type is a little too "aloof" for me. I need more attention and more shared time (more shared everything actually!) than that. It's hard to find the perfect balance in a relationship!

Ya haha I was thinking that too. So very opposite. I think rafa wants Xisca as far from the tennis world as possible. Sort of like the things that remind you of home. She's part of his non-tennis life. For whatever reason, it's a big deal for him to keep those segregated. Whatever floats your boat I guess! In one of the recent video, in the script below he talks about how nothing has changed back home, he manages to add in "still the same girlfriend". I will be VERY shocked if these two ever break up.

I'm not sure if it has to do with tennis. She was there during the USO, where he had to be 200% focused on tennis (more this year than ever!) but she wasn't there for the dream vacation he was most excited about (Bangkok). He just never seems to miss her (don't blame me, I take his word for it): she's there: fine, she's not there: not a problem.
I may be vain but I need to feel a tad more "wanted" by my significant other!!

Most women want to be wanted by their SO. I always get the feeling, that half the time she's just tagging along with him. Even in Mallorca. I'm sure they have alone time off camera. But still, it's like he's finally in Mallorca, except he's been on the move there too! Next week he will probably put a good amount of time into practicing.

What i thought was hilarious was he was doing it while playing golf. Where it is 100X more offensive. I'm not a fan of the underwear picking myself.

by now surely you've understood something about us men. All the roses, and niceties, and nice guy stuff, the romantic stuff is only during courtship, and getting the girl. After that it's reality. We only really care about our career and achievements, hobbies. We really aren't family people, although some of us painfully try to mould ourselves into that.

See Murray, how bored he looks with Kim around. he'd rather play on his cellphone or whatever it is. That's life. Don;t worry too much about your SO. Live your own life :D

Since when are you a man???????????????? Shock of the TW week for me!! [IMG]

Maybe Rafa and Xisca have an open relationship. Toni doesn't believe in marriage, maybe Rafa feels the same. Although he does say he's too young for marriage so maybe that means he hopes to one day, who knows. Is there any hope Rafa will tell all one day in hi official biography when he's retired?

Hmm, right now it would be like that yes, but maybe in the future he will write a bit more about her if she's still in his life. Lots of public figures are private about some stuff in their life but when hype has died down they're a bit more open.
Besides, Rafa, she's not the head of Alluminiti no, for gods sake!

Doesn't surprise me. Manolo and Rafa are good friends, they almost have a father-son relationship. Everyone is praising rafa right now. I hope they genuinely feel that and aren't just jumping on the bandwagon.

I'm pretty sure at least 60% of the people singing praises are bandwagoners. But what u gonna do about that?
