thanks Mustard. that is just insane. i hope he skips one or two of them.
The problem this year is that Rome and Madrid are back to back. If he tries to win them both, he will be pooped by RG, regardless of what he plays before Madrid. Last year, the solution was easy: skip Barcelona. This year, there is no easy solution. Barcelona is not the problem anymore. The problem is the 2 masters in a row. I wish he could win all 3 masters again and I'm sure he could with a week between each but with the new schedule, I hope he wins EITHER Rome OR Madrid and takes it easy in the other one.
That's the only way we can be sure he won't push his physical limits again and arrive at RG near breaking point.
I dislike the new schedule. The only advantage of it for Rafa is that he can play his home tournament (Barcelona) and with the new schedule, it would even be bad to skip Barcelona because a 2 week break at the beginning of clay season would be too much.

I personally think this year's French Open and Wimbledon should be a week later than they are, 29th May and 27th June instead of 22nd May and 20th June.

Yeah if he plays all those clay events I still think he'll be fine for RG (he wasn't fine in 2009 because he'd not fixed the tendinitis he was suffering from in late 2008 and during the AO which he won) but I think the bigger problem is Wimbledon, because in 2010 he looked tired at Queens and was a bit off in the first week of Wimbledon. The tiredness would likely come just after Roland Garros.

I think Nadal has one of the nicest Richard Millie watches out there. I saw all of them on their website..... pathetic on my part as I will never be able to afford one.

Does anyone know why they are soo expensive? Does that old geezer Richard Millie make them himself?

Well, not to be a jerk. But IMO this thread was created to provide all the recent news on Rafael Nadal. Now there are TONS of posts on this thread about fanboyism, movies and good ol' fashioned trolling. The result is one has to go several pages back to see a news article or an interview from Nadal. It's like hunting for a needle in a haystack.

It will be good if we can limit the offtopic chat here, and keep this thread only for the relevant articles on Nadal, and the pertinent discussion thereof..

Well, not in a mean way that's what google is for. There are also lots of websites that keep, only news no comments. It's a discussion board so people will go back and forth. Also, a lot of non tournament news is discussed here. Which leads to more discussion and not to mention most of the people that post here are girls...nuff said? lol.

The blood-spinning treatment, he knows he just needs 4 days of treatment and BOOM his knee is 100%. He had both knees treated in 2010, and neither has recurred since.

2010 is not too long ago. It's only been a few months. He shouldn't be pushing his body. He probably wants to pick up points during the clay season. He's prolly not gonna defend that USO title. So he needs to make sure he doesn't drop his clay points. I don't think he'll win all 3 this time to be honest.

Nadal launches new Kia Australian Open fleet in high spirits

Rafael Nadal braved Melbourne's unseasonably wet conditions to officially launch the fleet of specially equipped Kia Australian Open courtesy vehicles at Melbourne Park today.

The world No.1 arrived outside Rod Laver Arena in a brand new Kia Optima and handed the keys to the entire fleet to Tennis Australia CEO, Steve Wood.

Wood commended Kia Australia CEO M.K. Kim on the Korean maker's alliance with the Australian Open. There will be a total of 101 brand new Kia's ferrying our Australian Open hopefuls around Melbourne over the coming weeks.

Nadal looked relaxed and in good health which will come as great news to his fans after he contracted an illness in Doha last week, and was bundled out of the Qatar Open semifinals by world No.23 Nikolay Davydenko.

The Spanish champ has had a stellar year and is hoping to convert his unbeatable form into a fourth consecutive Grand Slam win.

Proving just how focused he is on Australian Open 2011, Nadal brushed off suggestions that a potential Grand Slam added to his desire to win the 2011 tournament. "My motivation is the Australian Open. There is nothing bigger than this. My motivation is this tournament. "

The popular Spaniard is remaining calm and not letting the pressure of a potential history-making win get to him.

"For me the pressure is the same, like every tournament the pressure is my pressure. I want to play well I want to do the right things," said the multi-Grand Slam champion.

2011 marks Kia's 10th year as a major sponsor of the Australian Open and they are celebrating with the upcoming release of the all new mid-sized Optima. The Optima adds to Kia's already outstanding line-up of passenger vehicles and will help ensure the players are transported to Melbourne Park safely and in true Kia style.

He may have a full planned schedule but that doesn't mean he's actually going to play every single one of those tourneys. I have no doubts the Nadal camp is a lot wiser with regards to his schedule these days than they've been in the past.

Well the great thing about Rafa which has made him the most exciting player in years is that you just don't know what it coming. We have seen him nearly lose in the first week to someone we hardly hear about. Get to the final and he is untouchable. He is apart from all the rest in this, in the way he approaches a slam and the build up to it. I know something and that is without him it would be a very ordinary predictable affair. Rafa has brought back to tennis so much which has been lacking. All eyes are on him win or lose, he is unforgetable

True, there will be some events he has some bagels and all straight sets, and others where he might have some long sets. He can withdraw with 'exhaustion' when required.

There is nothing more entertaining in sport than Rafa in a 5th set or down 2 sets to 1 etc., he brings a lot of energy to challenging situations. Lots of fun.

Is it possible for one guy to have so much fun? :)

Ok, now I'm starting to hate the guy :) :

-living legend already at just 24;
-cool family;
-nice friends;
-nice homeland(I am a summer guy myself so I'm partial to beaches)
-has tons of money;
-his "job" is hitting tennis balls over the net;
-gets to see some amazing places for free;
-lost of hot chicks around him;
-decent girlfriend(she's not that hot to me) who he has been seeing since forever;
-rolls around with shakira in the dirt

I mean seriously, what more can this guy ask for? :)

How about fitting underwear? :)

It's quite incredible to think Rafa could be walking out to serve for the match in the Final knowing that if he holds serve he will be the first man in 42 years to hold all 4 slam crowns simultaneously. If that's not enough to make you nervous I don't know what is. Something tells me though he'll show absolutely no signs of nerves.

It's good that he's taking a month off after the Australian Open. He will push himself to the physical limit and literally leave it all out on the court. And mentally he should be in great shape because the concept of the 42 year record would have to generate a lot of adrenaline and extra zip in his step.

I wonder what would be more difficult, having the other top seeds drop like flies and making it entirely up to Rafa to win the gimme matches.....or having the top players all remaining in the SF and F. At least the top players are big enough threats to distract you from anything outside of the lines.

Manners of nadal are not good. misbehavior of medical time out. saliva is always vomited in the court. formally protested against by other players. To the nadal’s usage at egocentric time. annoyingness of move. He always shouts. the trophy is always bitten like the infant. muscular power. nadal is the most annoying player in the man tennis.

lol... in the man tennis

btw, you do realise you're the laughingstock on this forum,right?

Plus he's beaten Federer in their most recent slam meetings on clay, grass and hardcourt.

That would be wonderful. Aren't they earlier than usual this year?

2011 is one of those years where one Sunday/Monday seems a bit early and the other Sunday/Monday seems a bit late. The year Thomas Muster won the French Open, in 1995, the tournament started on the 29th May, although that was a Monday.

Roger is sickness and slump. MONO. Roger 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2009 champion.class

Roger sorest loser of all-time Federer, has gone downhill since 2008, played worse in 2009 than 2008, with Rafa's absence being the difference between winning and losing. And then 2010 a further low.

I think this video tells us he is far happier with men than women. He is the macho spaniard who likes being with his mates and his special girl friend

I agree that he always seems a lot happier when with the boys, like when he opted for ibiza instead of attending her graduation
