    Advantages to Nadal:

    * his record vs. Federer (chief rival)
    * his current #1 ranking, which I don't think Agassi ever finished yr-end with
    * his domination of one surface & his ability to adapt to other surfaces
    * Movement, stamina, athleticism, speed, etc
    * angles & topspin

    Advantages to Agassi:

*dictated play....played matches on his terms....hitting aggressively on the rise & inside the baseline
*longevity....many wonder if Nadal can sustain this pace of success. Agassi was great into his mid 30s.
    *great return of serve.

The edge goes to Agassi. There's no way Rafa is going to play into his 30s, IMO. Rafa was dominant at the French, but still only 2 slams outside of that. Agassi has multiple slams at the AO and USO, along with multiple finals at the French and Wimbledon, which he also won. Nadal has yet to reach the USO final. As of right now, the edge goes to Agassi.

Plus I actually give Agassi more credit seeing as how he fell off so far, worked hard to get back, and regained a spot at the top of tennis. I don't think any player in tennis history has ever done what he did in that respect.

And he was #1 from Sept 1999 to Sept 2000. Rafa, as of yet, still yet to complete full yr as #1.

Nadal easily. It took forever for Agassi to get his first slam.

I expected by the end of their careers this is how they will compare:

    Dominance: Nadal
    Consistency: Nadal by alot
Versatility: Nadal (note I said by the end)
    Longevity: Agassi by alot
Strength of competition: Nadal overall (the field Agassi won alot of slams late in his career vs was nothing to write home about)

    How they compare now:

    Dominance: Nadal
    Consistency: Nadal by alot
    Versatility: Agassi
    Longevity: Agassi obviously
Strength of competition: mixed (the mens field overall was weaker when Nadal was first winning the French especialy)

I have no doubt Nadal will end up ahead. Right now Agassi is only because Nadal has only just turned 23.

Nadal is most likely surpassed Agassi by the time his career is up.

These are my 2 favorite players due to how they advanced the game of modern tennis. It is such a tough vote. Nadal, if he stays healthy, could end up being the greatest of all time. I think it is easier to vote on this in 10 years when Nadal is around the same age as Agassi when he stopped playing the ATP.

Agassi got owned by his main rival, Nadal owns his main rival. Nadal held 3 slams on 3 surfaces simultaneously. Agassi is slightly ahead at the moment but Nadal will likely surpass him within the next year or two.

Lets us see when Nadal retires to know how he would compare to Agassi. He is still playing and can do a lot while he is at his best.

Of course it's Agassi right now, but who's to say what Nadal will do later?

It's Nadal. By 23 he already has 6 slams all defeating the best player in history.

He is GOAT on clay. Phenomenal record. And now strong on grass and hard too.

Agassi wasted his talent. Came in big 1994-95 and then gone. Then came back in 1999. He was always meat to Sampras at Wimbledon and US Open.

Agassi is very good but Nadal is better.

Pointless thread.I've never understood this logic. How can you compare a retired player against the one that still playing?
Who knows what Rafa 'll achieve when he retires?

Like Dutch-Guy said, it doesn't make much sense to compare the two because Nadal's still active. I voted for Agassi though.

I would still say Agassi on most surfaces, but that can be changed very soon. Nadal is much better on clay though.

Right now Agassi, but not by much.

Nadal is on track to surpass Agassi if he doesn't suddenly drop off the map.

Nadal is only 23. At that age Agassi had won only one slam. Andre was still years away from dedicating himself to the game the way Rafa has all along.

I guess the question should be rephrased : Who is better through their entire career: Agassi or Nadal?

Or have it rephrased: Who was better at this age of their career?

This gives two totally different answers.
Total? Agassi, by a HUGE margin.
Agassi wins in total slams, number of slam finals, number of slam finals in all GS, etc.
At this age of their careers? Nadal

Nadal may overtake Agassi, but only if he wins a USO final, more than one AO and Wimbledon, etc. His fitness is very suspect, unfortunately.

Sadly, when Agassi was Rafa's age he was a real jerk, and I found it hard to watch/appreciate hinm and his tennis. Fortunately he matured into a great champion. I'm glad Rafa is showing maturity beyond his years.:)

Something else to take into consideration:

    * Agassi certainly played tennis longer than most. However, one must consider the amount of lulls in his career as well. Nadal has been going strong since he was 17yrs old. If Nadal goes strong until he's 28-29 at the minimum. I think his productivity will more than match Agassi's. Now if he flames out at age 24, then this becomes a different argument.
