If you had to put serious money on it, say $100, would you take Rafael Nadal or the field at the French open?

As you can see, Nadal is much bigger than the field. At RG, Nadal will stamp all over the field.

Is this a serious question? It's pretty much impossible to beat Nadal on clay.

I know, its just with all the Murray to win the French and Federer to win the French threads, I was making sure there were still some sane people left on the boards.

If they give me 50/50 odds, I'm taking that bet. Nadal is the overwhelming favorite.

It's always safer to bet on the field no matter how much of a favorite any player is to win simply because the odds are still against them.

If it would pay I would put money on it no doubt. I'd put $1000 on Nadal if there would be a good return.

    I'll say this right now:

If Nadal can guarantee me he'll be 100% healthy and he plays just as, if not better than RG 08, I will bet billions of dollars for the guy. No questions asked.

Usually I'd completely agree with you. But Nadal at the FO is a special case, its equivalent would be something like this:-

Pete Sampras enters a tournament, let's say if he wins it the organiser gives a million dollars to a charity of his choice. He's motivated to win it. The other competitors in the 8 strong field are Sir Trevor McDonald, Will Ferrell, Margaret Thatcher, you, me, that gopher on youtube that turns around fast, and a broomstick.

Sometimes the field hasn't got anything on the favourite. I think FO 2009 is one of those years.

But Nadal only has to beat 7 guys, not 127. Its not like in say golf, where Tiger has to have a better score than 120 or so guys. Nadal only has to beat the guys he faces.
