No this isn't trolling it should be for real now.

That means out of Doha as well.

    Craig Gabriel ‏@crosscourt1
JUST IN - official. Rafa Nadal is out of the Australian Open due to stomach virus.

    Jon Wertheim ‏@jon_wertheim
From the camp : Rafa Nadal will not play DOHA & MELBOURNE... a stomach virus makes him stop his rehabilitation and thinks in the new season

Waaaaay too fishy, I mean really??

Nadal will drop to #5 I guess, well all your wishes came true.

    Craig Gabriel ‏@crosscourt1
With Nadal not playing till Acapulco (25 Feb), means by then it would be 8 mths since last official match - 2nd RD Wimbledon

Update: on the official AO website

Nadal plans to come back on 25th Feb in Acapulco, but there's a possibility that he'll play an ATP event before that.

    From his facebook:

As my team and doctors say, the safest thing to do is to do things well and this virus has delayed my plans of playing these weeks. I will have to wait until the Acapulco tournament to compete again although I could consider to play before at any other ATP event

My knee is much better and the rehabilitation process has gone well as predicted by the doctors, but this virus didn’t allow me to practice this past week and therefore I am sorry to announce that I will not play in Doha and the Australian Open, as we had initially scheduled.

    Silent ban???????

Is there anything that would convince you, Mr. Clarky21, that Nadal is not a pathetic Futures player that should retire? :p

Been declaring that half-jokingly awhile ago that Rosol literally sent Nadal to retirement, this is getting more true as each day goes on.

This is a great scenario for Nadal to begin his comeback at Acapulco. He can build his confidence by winning a NINTH consecutive Monte Carlo title (and a 2nd Acapulco title, which he last won in 2005), a SEVENTH Rome title (in 9 attempts), an 8th Barcelona title (in 8 attempts) and an EIGHTH Roland Garros title (and it would be the second time he has won a slam four consecutive times).

And Nadal has the perfect opportunity to win slams on clay, grass and hard-court all in a calendar year AGAIN.

And Nadal can break the Borg/Sampras/Federer/Nadal tie of winning one slam per year for eight consecutive years (he'll make is NINE in 2013).

And Nadal can break the Wilander/Nadal tie of winning two slams on each surface (with a Wimbledon2013 win and a USOpen2013 win). :p

And I don't see why this is so surprising, since Nadal and his team have agreed to a no-bandaid solutions policy on injuries, so we can only expect Nadal to play when fully healthy. And given that Nadal practically won RolandGarros2012 on one leg, we all know what Nadal can do when 100%. :p

I've had stomach viruses. They suck and you feel like death for a while. But you certainly don't get one and think, "well golly, I don't think I'll be back in shape over two weeks from now."

Something fishy is going on here. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think the knee is in worse shape than we've been led on to believe and Nadal is trying to mix up his excuses to give fans hope and keep opponents on guard.

Yeah, I mean stomach virus? AO's two weeks away, surely it couldn't disrupt his preparation to such a degree that he doesn't participate at all? Didn't expect this at all to be honest.

It really has been fishy all the time ever since it's gone past the USO. Yet lots of people just laugh at us 'conspiracy theorists', the facts are there and it's getting fishier than ever.

Uncle Toni said that a best of 5 tournament is not suitable for Nadal's first tournament back, and I agree with that. If Nadal as a stomach injury, then obviously he can't train as hard as he needs to for AustralianOpen2013, and hence he must miss it. :p

I still wouldn't go with the silent ban theory, I think what is more plausible is that his knees are in a worse shape than Nadal and his camp will admit officially.

Toni Nadal said that a best of 5 sets format is unsuitable for a player coming back from a long-sustained injury (and Nadal has missed 6 months of tournaments), and since Nadal has a stomach virus, Nadal can't possibly train as hard as he would like, and he NEEDS to train as hard as he needs to to be ready for long matches at AustralianOpen2013. So instead of achieving a less-than-superb result at AustralianOpen2013, he can make his start in 2013 at Acapulco2013 where he can build confidence rather than start the year with less confidence. How can you not see this as a positive thing? :p

He's been out rehabilitating since his loss to Rosol in the second round of Wimbledon man, it's been almost half a year. He is 100% fit, but jus not a 100% match-fit, my thoughts are he doesn't want to give-away any psychological edge to his rivals going into the Clay season, he wants to hit the ground running and surge on from there. I personally think it's the sissy boy's approach, he should compete in the Aussie Open and give it his best go.

He is fit, he's jus not match-fit. Call me a cynic but I believe the "stomach bug" was a cover story and he and uncle Toni watched Novak today against Roadrunner and completely demolish him, so sort it best as he jus pulled out of the Aussie open. Chances were he'd meet Novak in the semi finals and it'd have been a huge psychological edge for him going into the clay season. I know I am going deep here, but this really does happen.

Depends on what Murray lands in the draw. Don't forget Murray has choked against Nole the past two times they've played. And got defeated by Fed very convincingly (at least in the 2nd set) in London.

what Zagor says in the post below yours - maybe the knees are worse than is being reported i.e. maybe there is something in what you've been saying.

I'm not buying the 'silent ban' @rsegravy though.
