Nadal himself has said his knee is not yet fully recovered, and said so weeks ago. This info from Neil Harman is not some revelation.

What if he gets Federer in SF? He could have waited for the draw and then withdraw citing the same reason. It's not a surety that he will play Novak in SF. If Nadal can bounce back after losing seven matches on a trot then he certainly can come back after a possible lose against Djokovic in SF 2013. He should have waited for the draw at least

Come February, Nadal will be down to 5400 points (a testament to his clay abilities). Assuming he doesn't defend his semi points at both IW and Miami, he could likely find himself below 5000 for the start of clay. Even if he is somehow able to match last year's success (2 1000s and 1 500), it is very likely the King of Clay will be ranked 5th-7th for Roland Garros.

Can't wait to see that draw.

This is crazy! I really thought he was coming back, and this virus was only going to take him out of the exho. Can a virus really knock his chances out of even competing?

Here's the thing though. The longer Nadal is not playing, the more weird the injury is. Like I said before there wasn't signs of hindrance of the knee when he played against Rosol, if the knee injury was that bad he would be limping on the court. So if the knee injury ISN'T that bad at all, surely it wouldn't worsen itself by that much when Rafa isn't even playing tennis, to the point that it's affecting him in the new season? Stomach virus sounds BS, they last for less than a wekk and if it gets serious you'll be seeing Rafa in the hospital in serious conditions already. You see the conflict?

Agreed, I can't wait to hear the reactions of paranoid Talk Tennis fans  when Nadal ploughs his way through his RolandGarros2013 draw no matter how hard it is. And Nadal has only won RolandGarros once as the #1-ranked player, so ranking doesn't matter at RolandGarros, his pet slam. :p

Yep, because we all know that with Nadal in the draw, we can expect another 4-set loss from Federer in the SF... :p

That is likely the case. He really goes too far overboard. Also don't know why he has the patience to keep switching accounts.

I'm calling it NOW that Rafa would pull out of French Open 2013, yes it's bizzare but it's been bizzare for him the past few months I might as well make a random prediction.

Yeah but that's also just conjecture. There's no proof of knees-still-broken or silent ban.

Instead we are getting silly unbelievable excuses from Team Nadal and tournament organizers.

I hope you don't cry (like Roger at AO09... wait no even worse) when Rafa loses in the 2nd round of FO.

Maybe it is not a virus but a bacteria. Ever heard of Helicobacter Pylori? I have. It completely distroys your stomach and intestines. I had it two years ago and I have never really gotten back to normal again. I can play tennis, though, but still have some digestive disorders.

This is something that takes a few months to get over and a very aggressive antibiotics treatment. I am guessing he has this because a virus is over in a couple of days.

To me it's obvious. If his knees are really bad he should only play the clay and grass-court season every year and take rest in between citing injuries. Last season he already was made to miss Wimbledon and the Olympics.

He is an incurable optimistic. He is blind with Rafa's 2010 success. The other night I argued with him that both Nole and Roger has also won 3 slams an year. Still he wasn't acknowledging anything. Success can make people over confident and over optimistic especially if they are very young. I guess he is young

This is a shame. I was thoroughly looking forward to watching Nadal get Pwned in this tournament.

Oh well... it's going to make the draw VERY interesting... will Nole Draw Murray or Ferrer.

I think Murray are and Nole are the 1a/1b favorites... but this could be a slam where an underdog like Pwnerer or DelPo could come through.

Obviously, I'm just making a guess, we have little to information to go on.

Have to agree, this doesn't sound believable in the slightest.

He isn't, he's just terrified at the possibility of Fed winning AO.

If Fed draws Berdych in QF I'd actually favour Berdman slightly.

This is sad indeed. As much as a Rafa fan I am, I am beginning to wonder: Is there something that he isn't telling us? Think about how he has done things since Wimbledon...

On fb, he said he was preparing to return at the Olympics. Then he said he wasn't healthy enough, and quoted a return at the US Swing. If I'm not mistaken, about a week or two before Toronto he said he wasn't healthy enough and will be back at Cincy. Then not even a few days after the Toronto announcement, he said he was out until the USO.

Then came the announcement about USO, following the Asian Tour, Indoor Season, and here we are now. There just seems to be a trend going with Rafa, and as much as I don't want to believe I'm right; is there something he isn't saying?

It would be better for ATP to just let Rafa play a limited schedule, semi-retirement or whatever. He's too good for tennis and that should be recognized. Just let him play on the soft surfaces only. The rest of the time he can swim in the sea with his mates and play golf. Either that or tell him to man up and learn how to finish points quicker to make things easier on his body, maybe speed up the hardcourts to help him do that:)

good decision. Had Nadal gone ahead and played at the AO, he could possibly get eliminated in the 1st round anyway due to lack of match play.

Stomach Virus? I'm going to have to call bs on this one. I think he's probably coming off or getting back on the drugs....body hasn't adjusted. I mean anyone with a brain could see he was on something when tried to say he changed his grip and that's what allowed his serve to all of a sudden become a weapon. I think it added something like 10 or 15 mph to it. So he's no different than anyone else.

Also, think about this. Anytime you hear players like Fed and Novak pushing for more drug testing...I mean really who do you think they are speaking of? You think they give a rats' @$$ about say the number 120 player or even the number 80th player in the world doping. It was a direct attact at Nadal in my opinion. Fed saying even he himself isn't tested enough. No matter what kind of fan you are that is saying a lot for him to say that. Nadal is washed up. I think he knows that and the only thing really left for him to do now is add to his French title list assuming he can get healthy enough to play it again. I like to watch him play but something is up besides a stomach virus.

I really didn't expect this either, it's becoming fishy indeed...

It's really bad for the tournament as well, with 3 main contenders the draw decides half the outcome. Then again, it gives more opportunities to others; let's hope a few younger players can break through. I'd like to see Nishikori get to the QF.

You are right, it is fool's day in the Spanish speaking world, which makes it all the more absurd. It would be very strange to pull a joke like this on the official AO web site.

Damn, hate to say it Rafa fans, and fans of tennis, but Nadal may be done for good here. Hard to come back from 8+ months off and play an elite level again. This years' RG may be his last shot at a major TBH.

Epidemiologists apparently are on their way to take samples from Nadal to determine why a "stomach bug" that affects most people for a few days at most apparently is expected to impact him for at least six months.
