Nadal's FB page - https://www.facebook.com/Nadal/posts/10152422602071026
He's unable to remain healthy. His tennis is not based on finesse nor skill but on raw physical power. A player like him can't be the GOAT...
What a shame...
I'm not quite sure why he mentions the previous three finals as if we must be reminded that he would have been a favorite, but I wish him a swift recovery (natural please).
Sucks, but not surprised. You could tell from the way they communicated news that something fishy was going on. The whole Nadal team and US Open organizers probably knew it since a while that he wouldn't make it, but delayed the official announcement for ticket sales reason
Murray will be pleased.
He gets 8th seed.
And I hate to admit it but Roger has a decent chance now (then again, upsets can happen like always)...
I wasn't expecting this tbh.
I knew this would happen. There was no reason to wait to make the final decision until today if he wasn't sure whether to play or not (other than ticket sales)
Federer of couse benefits from this big time (no 3 to no 2 so avoids Djokovic until the final). So does Ferrer (avoids Djokovic/Federer/Wawrinka until the semis) and Murray of course (avoids the top guys before the QF round).
Because if healthy, he's unbeatable and has to remind himself and everyone that.
A shame that he won't play, though it was obvious he wouldn't from the moment he delayed the announcement to today
Federer is probably to blame.
Now I am not happy Fed played Cincy. He has overplayed
pretty petty behavior for a 14-time Slam champion…
Nadal - Out
Djokovic - Baby imminent, motivation low
Murray - frustrating headcase undoubtedly lose in straights in R4/QF
Are the stars aligning for Roger Federer to recreate this exact pose? (he's in black again)
Well, that means Fed will be seeded second and he can't face Djoker before the final. Great news in this respect too.
And, BTW, Fed will pass Nada in the ranking if he wins the USO!
Yay, just what I wanted to read when I woke up .
It's really too bad. No Del Potro. Djokovic is completely distracted with new marriage and a pregnant wife in the peak of his career. Nadal has a wrist injury. Murray is trying to regain his form after back surgery. Wawrinka was a flash in the pan that has completely imploded.
I guess this is the year when some random guy in the field ends up winning the US Open.
Sure this is a real post from Nadal????? Nadal was not in the last 3 US Open finals (2012 - Murray d. Djokovic)
PLEASE somebody from the next generation step up and make a semi final run.
BTW, Nada is wrong: he did not play 3 consecutive finals at the USO. He wasn't there in 2012.
Edit: I think he meant: I played finals in my last 3 appearances in NY.
Duh. just realized Nadal didn't participate in 2012
Read it again...
"3 consecutive finals in my last participations"
He didn't play in 2012, therefore the last 3 US Open's he has played he has been in the final.
'' I’ve played 3 consecutive finals in my last participations''
Don't be such haters guys.
This is a good thing for the rest of the Big 4 (and their fans) but no need to hate on Rafa.
that's why. I was wrong, I expected him to play it.
It's a shame, you want the top players (and everyone else for that matter) to participate in the top events.
Yeah let's celebrate for this hollow *** tournament and fistpump for all the fans that bought tickets that wanted to see Nadal.
I already corrected my post. See the edit, please.
The tournament isn't/will not be hollow.
On the bright side for Rafa and his fans, at least this didn't happen before the French.
Damn, I wonder why:roll:
The guy is so unlucky...
Nada never gets injured before the French Open... somehow!
If I were them I'd demand to get my money back. Nadal is here to blame, I bet he knew days if not weeks ago that he won't be ready for the Open but waited until the last minute to get the sales up.
The tour is already hollow. Nadal pulling out is the kicker.
Looks like this benefits Murray and Federer the most (8th seed and 2nd seed, this also boosts Murray's chances for WTF if he makes the QF as he has nothing to defend for the rest of the year) and Federer avoids Djokovic until the final which is a huge plus.
Rogers face to face reaction to Nadal's announcment:
But seriously this is a good reminder of how much fun these two can have together while petty fans like us argue about BS on tennis boards like this.
Rafa = out of USO
Djokovic = not in form
Murray = Roger just beat him, sucked all year
Roger = just won a masters for first time in 2 years and is a pretty happy camper
I know excuses are a favorite pastime here at TT. But Djoko being distracted? Fed had twins on the way (born 23th July 2009) yet he won the channel slam.
Djoko has been in a funk lately, but
a) let's not blame that on happy family circumstances and
b) plenty of time for him to get back to his beast mode
What exactly is Nadal suffering from? "Wrist problems" could be huge range of injuries.
Perhaps I'm a little exaggerating but I think Nadal needs the mental break a lot more than the physical one. Plus: Perhaps Nadals way to play tennis doesn't let him to do this uninterrupted but only partly with high peaks. And the older he gets, the more difficult the interruptions?
Anyway, I'm sure he's going to come back. I won't write Nadal off until he's retiring.
Please, let me know once you find out.
Man, this is just unbelievable how he can get injured (all sorts of injuries, including during a warm up to a GS final) before/during all grand slams but not the FO.
Now I can watch the tournament in peace and comfort.
Last year was absolutely devastating to watch Nadal sweep the entire hard court season... probably one of the finest moments of his hard court career.
I wonder if it's really his wrist.
He feels no pain on clay It is amazing isnt it? He gets hurt in every part of the year except clay. The guy runs around and plays mickey mouse tournaments in south america plays every freaking clay tournament (barcelona as well) then cant participate in the hard court season again. Maybe just maybe if he would take some of these worthless clay tournaments off he could be healthy for the hard season? I honestly dont get this guy at all. I think all of this is bs.
Agree this has the potential of having all of the remaining big three out by the semis. Federer is probably most vulnerable in the middle rounds. IMO Djokovic has not been motivated the past two weeks with Nadal out since he actually gains rating points on Nadal even with poor showings, same at the US Open. Murray is still in "First British man to win Wimbledon in 77 years" state of mind and recovering from the back surgery.
Still go for the experience(or Nadal fans just go for Nadal)...plus why would you buy a ticket in advance to see him when he has a history of skipping Slams?
If he skips the rest of the year it would keep his win % high.
Not sure if trolling... but I'm fine. Or at least I'm about to be in a few
I hope he doesn't miss the rest of the year... He makes the tour exciting.
He did play and win the 2012 FO final on one leg, if you don't recall - and yes, he's that good on clay ;-) Rafa can be at 30 % and still win the FO - that's why you'll never see him skip it.
It's not just not getting injured during the clay court season. It's about always being fit when he enters the clay court season (which comes after 3 months or so of hard court tennis).
Any way, I'm happy with him not playing this or all non-dirt slams. I will enjoy this USO from day one, which is a luxury. Thanks, Nada !
