first meeting on clay. Think I'll take Nadal in 3.
Nadal will bring the bakery to this encounter. Nalbandian will be beat 6-1 6-0, not even kicking a linesman will save him.
Nadal needs to get an early start going....he starts playing well in the end of the 2nd set or third set.
From what I've seen, this could be straights for Nalbandian honestly, but it wouldn't surprise me if he found a way to screw it up either. Thus giving Nadal the win. All in all, I think I'll take Nalbandian in 3.
nalbandian for the win
yes, but it's indoor clay
and nalby thrives indoors
another argentinean beat nadal on clay last week, tho he was a left-hander
I am afraid Nalbandian will win this with ease. Rafa is just playing like a mug at the moment.I dont even enjoy watching him.
I'll go along with this
sadly, even tho nalby's got great tennis brain, he's not got the same high level of confidence that nadal has. such as the way nadal came roaring back in the third set today
still, nalbandian knows how to beat nadal, and this week he seems in the best position to do so that I've ever seen personally. Yes, it's because rafa's still got a ways to go to come back AND he'd hatehatehate to lose to an argentinean two finals in a row
Luv nadal, but gonna go with my sentiment for nalbandian -- in 3, as you said
Nalbandian in 2, something like 7-5, 6-3.
Nadal is just coming back, hasn't played that great of competition, is still far from rounding into pre-injury form. Nalby could, at times, trouble Nadal when Nadal was actually in his prime. We all know Nably is no slouch and has incredible game at times.
I'm not trying to get down on Nadal. I'm not saying Nalby is better overall, but at this juncture, I just see Nably winning against a less-than Nadal. Of course, this is Nalby we're talking about, so who knows what will happen. But, I'm going to bet on David in this match.
Nalby in straights. Nadal probably takes 4 games max.
Sounds about right.
Nadal in straights. This isn't 2007.
Nadal wins this match in 3.
Nalby stands no chance tomorrow.
This court is playing very quickly. The balls are very light too. I think that's the condition that Nalby needs for pull out an upset.
Yes Nadal was actually a good player back then. Now he sucks.
may you be right !
All this stuff is wishful thinking about Nadal fading away.
He'll be injured again, no question, but he's still going to win.
And he'll win tomorrow too...and he'll win RG.
Fat Dave in 2 sets. Nadal just lost a set to Martin "who the f**k" Alund on clay for god's sake.
Nalbandian's lost to players like Alund a lot of the time too.
Nalbandian hates tennis. But it's his job. He has no will to fight to the end like Nadal or Djokovic do. Nadal will win this in 3. I'd have said 2 but Nadal might let off the gas pedal a bit since he's still trying to get his form.
Nadal will win this, easily. Double bakery sets.
DEAL WITH THE JINX.
Would love to see Nadal rise to the occasion and win in 3 sets... Will be a very tough ask for him, but he is a fighter.
I just hope he doesn't push himself too hard and gets injured.
Rafa will have trouble attacking David's backhand.
Seems like Donut Dave is the favourite; he should win if he plays well and doesn't choke.
In the semis, Nadal played A LOT better in the 3rd set than Nalbandian played in the 2nd set. I saw it all, and it wasn't even close in quality of tennis.
Nadal easily. He's the king of clay. No way he would lose to Nalby on clay.
You may have confused yourself here or else you see the writing on the wall and aren't aware. You're taking Nadal as the winner in three sets and in the next sentence state that Nalbandian doesn't have a chance. A year ago NOBODY would expect Nadal to loose a set to ANYONE in this draw on clay. Rafa just lost a set (on clay) to some guy who doesn't belong in the same draw with a healthy and confident Nadal. Nalbandian does belong in this conversation/draw... so who knows?
It's actually really strange to see these poll results favoring Nalbandian over Nadal on clay but I have to admit, it does show that TW members are aware of the circumstances at the moment. In his last four matches, Nadal has only had one straight sets win. First, he lost a tough three setter to Zeballos in Vina Del Mar 7/6(2), 6/7(6), 4/6. Then straight setted Sauza R2 in Brazil. He then won a dog fight three setter over Berlocq 3/6, 6/4, 6/4. Now today drops another set to (Alund???) 6/3, 6/7(2), 6/1
It's no brainner that Nalbandian has more credibility (and has actually beaten a healthy Rafa x2, although not on clay) than any of these guys. Nadal is definately not in full form at the moment and I would guess Nalbandian will push him very hard tomorrow...we'll see.
Nadal lost a set to Lucky Loser, what is the World coming to ? OK, it was probably because of the bad clay.
Best match on paper since the AO.
Nadal is going down. Nalby hitting with more aggression.
Nadal in three.
If Nadal is winning, it will be by some miraculous miracle. I think Nalby will take it in 2, maybe 3 if he starts making heaps of errors. I never thought I would say that.
Nadal said in his presser that he felt the most pain in his knee during the semis since coming back to competition. That doesn't sound very promising for his future
He didn't look particularly happy when he won, he barely cracked a smile after match point. I had a feeling it might have been the knee. I don't see how it will improve in the upcoming months, I thought the pain was supposed to be decreasing.
Could playing 13 matches in 12 days be too many? What a shocker.
But the pain was supposed to go away in February......
The knees are still in the process of acquiring match conditioning.
Actually Nadal's doctor said every test confirms that Nadal's knee is now 100% and has absolutely no problem. So the pain is not indicative of any problem. And the more you play with a pain the more normal it feels. As Nadal said, he knows there is nothing wrong with the knee, so its ok to play with pain.
I don't understand this either.
Dave knows how and is far from being newbie. Thus, Nalby in straights.
LOL, it wouldn't take a miracle.
Sometimes you simply play better against better and especially more familiar players whose ball you're used to, not to mention that Nalbo is a terrible frontrunner and Nadal has a knack for coming back in sets and is usually awfully hard to put away.
I think a scenario where Nalbo pummels Nadal in the 1st set, goes up a break in the 2nd only for Nadal to claw his way back to win that set and pummels Nalbo back in the decider is quite possible.
Agree - I have Nadal as a 60-40 favourite.
Rafa needs this win badly to get his confidence and game back but sadly I don't see this happening. Nalby troubled Rafa at his peak. This is like Rafa 0.2
Rafa can't abuse that backhand and Nalby has a decent ROS. Nalby may take this in 2 or 3
It will be interesting to see if Nadal is stupid enough to implement his usual tactic and attack Dave's backhand during the whole match.
All this love on TTW for Nalby... but the bookies have Nadal as the strong favourite (1/2 vs 9/5), and I know whose judgement I trust to be more objective. Rafa had his upset last week.
The Spaniard may not yet be 100% match-fit yet, and two successive three-setters this week might have taken their toll. David's scored some decent victories this week as well, considering his current ranking (#93). However, he's on a comeback of his own, so is likely just as rusty. And although the Argentine has a rep as one of Rafa's more troublesome opponents, the H2H has gone from 2-0 to 2-4 since 2007, after Nalby lost the last four in a row. There's been a couple of close three-setters among those defeats, including Indian Wells last year, their most recent encounter. But David suffered mental lapses at important moments in that match, and even in the event he gets to a winning position today, I'd expect history to repeat itself.
Anyone know if this will be on tv in the UK?
One of those four was a W/O. And two of them were very tight three-setters.
But yes, Nadal is the favourite.
Separate names with a comma.
