Ok, I need help finding the name/artist of a song I heard in Trader Joe's recently. The only lyrics I have to go on are "rise and fall" which is repeated throughout the song and its run-out. Sounds a little like a Flaming Lips/Radiohead type song but I doubt it is either one. It was actually kind of hard to hear it in that setting, but it did catch my ear.

I checked that and it's not the one. Not a "poppy" or r&b tune.

    Thanks though.

Check out Tim Halperin's "Rise and Fall". Oops, it's one of his album titles, not one of his songs.

No. Halperin's Rise and Fall is an album, not a specific song, afaIct. And is far too mainstream sounding. The song I'm searching for is more on the psychedelic side of the scale.

    Thanks anyways.

    EDIT: Just saw your edit.

The TJ that I frequent the most tends to play classic rock most of the time (60s thru 80s). How about your TJ? When I think of psychedelic music, Pink Floyd, The Beatles (Tomorrow Never Knows, etc), The Byrds (8 Miles High), Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix come to mind. How about you?

^ Oh yeah, can't forget Donovan with Season of the Witch and Sunshine Superman (released in 1966). Featured Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and others.

Pretty sure it was a modern song. When I say psychedelic, I mean mostly in contrast to the suggestions offered so far. Like I said, think more along the lines of the Flaming Lips and Radiohead. I wish I could be more specific.

The TJ's by me will play The Beatles, Bob Marley, The Clash, Billie Holiday...

^ Surely, one of these must be your mystery tune (my guess is the 2nd one)

    Helloween? Hell no.
    You trollin' me, bro?
No, I finally found it. It's a song called Jesus Was a Capricorn by Kris Kristofferson. Perhaps you've heard of it.

Chill pill. Maybe I should have added a couple of these: ;-)

Other than sharing a phrase, those songs are nothing like what I described. I thought you may have been partially jesting. I may be confusing you with another member. My response wasn't a personal dis - just trying to be a little more creative than:

    Thanks for trying to help.

The Fixx were not bad.. imo some of the 80s music still hold its own and owns most of the lame crap we get now.

Err no. But technically he was a Gemini, born in June. Christmas is only celebrated in December to meet with an older pagan festival, same as Easter is. Which is why Easter day is rarely the same date. So Kristofferson....read up on your subject matter before putting pen to paper :)

I have a suspicion Mr Kristofferson wasnt intending to be correct.

Only marginally aware of the music of Flaming Lips and Radiohead. Their music never struck a chord with me (pun shamelessly intended), so I've never really listened to it very much -- would probably not recognize it if I heard it.

I was going off your loose definition of psychedelic. Out of suggestions.

No luck. I don't know how I'll find it short of shopping in Trader Joe's 24/7 until I hear it again. At least it was good to be reminded that there is music out there I haven't yet heard that I can enjoy.

Ins't there an an app which recognizes the song from a tune (exactly meant for cases like yours ?)
Either ways, if you still remember the tune right reasonably close to the original, the easiest way is to sing it out/play it out in a voice clip and upload it , someone might help recognize the song .
