    Interesting....
But with Carbon Fiber, would it make the string stiffer? It's only 10% though.

to me, gut is like a birth control choice. you can use a latex materials for feel or you can use a plastic tube. if you mix the two, you still have no feel.

Ya, the purists did not even like the weather coating on the natural gut strings today. Im sure these new coating will make the strings a little stiffer but they may last much longer and still have great feel.

I don't trust the Luxilons sold on bay from China, and unless I see a whole bunch of rosy feedbacks from long-time bayers and TW users, I won't even consider trying it out.

Still... but natural gut should never be stiff.

But unless it really does help with life, then I guess a small sacrifice would be worth it. Also, the price of the strings better be fair.

Chinese gut though.... Although a lot of good products are made in China nowadays, you think this gut would still have great quality? May not compare to Babolat VS, but still.

You can find it on the bay. Just make a search for natural gut.

OK, I ordered up a pack of 5 sets. Probably take about 2 weeks to arrive. I'll keep you posted.
BTW, the Mantis string samples were generally OK, but I'm just not much of a copolymer fan. Kinda liked the Power Synthetic string, with natural gut crosses (yes, its THAT Indian stuff).

A few things to consider. The seller on bay has only 3 feedbacks - from ONE buyer. The sold items were packs of 100% natural gut. The picture of his 100% NG "product" is the same shot being used for this New! and Improved! Super Carbon Gut nonsense, a generic foil wrapper. I have heard of gut and coated gut. I have never heard of gut being used as percentage of a multi combined with other fiber. Has anyone?

    BTW, I ordered 5 sets...

Maybe there is such an excess or gut now with poly string soo popular that this China producer used it as the inner core to provide its most well know feel and response. Should be very interesting to see how it really plays and lasts ...

I won two listings for 5 sets each. I contacted the seller to ask about combined shipping and to invoice me for such. He responded two days later saying no to combined shipping. Both his response and the two invoices he sent did not appear in "My Messages" on my e*ay page - a sure sign that the seller is not legit. I did not pay. I have left bad feedback on the two transactions. I'm 98% sure this guy is a scammer.

    Interesting...

You should really inquire about combined shipping prior to winning an item, however... although I see no reason he could not accommodate that request.

I was put off by the no combined shipping, but the big red flag was that responses did not appear in "my messages". Every time I've delt with rip-off hackers there, their communications are off the grid.

Fake or not, this is no reason to leave a negative feedback.

When the response is not in "my messages", it simply means that the seller responded through his email server rather than through the bay's message system, which even a lot of legit sellers tend to do.

Many sellers have auctions that profit is made on the shipping so these type of sales are thus somewhat deceptive. This is not against the 36ay rules, nor is replying using the 36ay msg system. I would still be very skeptical of any China seller but you did enter a contract when you purchased that sellers item so you are now causing that seller a hassle.

Try what out? From every indication, buyers will not receive anything. This "seller" is listing an unknown product in multiple daily listings. Yet another indicator of fraud.

What is his other feedback like? Anyone else claim fraud?

What was the listing number, BTW?

I've bought saxophone mouthpieces and pads from China with no problem. Sometimes shipping takes a couple of weeks, but I expected that. All have been very professional in their dealings.

    FYI-
I received a personal reply from Mr. Mantis168, and he was informative & cordial. The message also appeared in my **** account. I responded, and he returned a second reply.
Cut a new entrepeneur some slack.
I expect the parcel to take about 3 weeks to arrive.

Well, it appears the strings have arrived. I got a registered mail notice from the USPS Monday, so I'm making the trek to the ol' PO later today.
I'll be in touch. Probably won't hit with them til Wednesday.
    Cheers!
BTW, 11 days from purchase, to arrival, from China. Not too shabby, eh?

Visual inspection- the strings are natural color (clear amber), smooth, resembling TNT^2 16, but definitely have a center core, looking like natural gut. Feels soft & pliable. Continuous coil (not two 6-meter strands like "bare" gut). Smells like synthetic gut, too. Comes in a zip-lock, gold foil envelope. No printing anywhere.
    Stay tuned.....

OK, strung up a set of the string. Can't remember what the "matrix" material is called, but these strings REALLY "bruise" a lot. Pretty elastic. I had plenty left over from the 40-foot coil. One-piece stringing, @ 60#, in a 110-sq.in. head.
Very easy to work with (hate the stiffness of poly, just for that reason). Knots well, and securely. Not as much "ping" in the finished job, as I get with "naked" natural gut, but it will probably still be nice on the arm.
I'll report back after I hit with it tomorrow.
    Happy trails!

    Update:
About a 30-minute hit this afternoon, in a 25-mph "breeze". The strings seem to grip the ball pretty well. Power was good (when I didn't frame the *&%# ball). Comfort was excellent. Feel on the ball was very good, also.
This is a soft string, and I don't expect it to last all that long, though. String movement was minimal.
I may have found a winner here. As for cost, I'm about $9.00/set, counting shipping. I think they're worth that price, easily.
    Stay tuned........

Can you try hitting with it for a week, and see how you feel about it? At that time, I think you can comment about the durability. Also, can you compare it to any other gut string?
Damn... $9 for a set of natural gut? From what you've explained to us, that's a really big deal!

Its gut in the center, anyway. The outside is some synthetic material, bonded to the gut.
I agree about the "hit it for a week" scenario.

OK, put 3 sets of intermediate-level men's doubles on the strings. They play pretty weel. I felt like the control was good, anyway.
So, I've got about 3 hours on the strings, thus far. Slight notching, and they do move around a bit, requiring alignment adjustments frequently.
Used my other racquet, with Mantis Comfort Synthetic gut mains, and natural gut crosses. Absolutely better, hands-down. So, no, thes ersatz strings are not the duplicate of natural gut.
As opined earlier, let's see how long the last!
