National team indoors starts on Feb 13th in chicago. Only The Elite teams in Division 1 will be invited to play. Ohio State, Stanford, and Virginia etc. Stanford will of course be there. I am thinking about flying out there to see the event since i have relatives there. Anyone else going ? and which team is your pick to win ? I couldn't get all the teams in the poll. I you feel someone other than the team in the poll, please write them in. thanks.

i think usc has a good chance.....couple of big hitters on their team whose game will be suited toward indoor tennis.

Does anyone know who's playing? I couldn't find it at the website. Without knowing the draws, I'd say look out for Ohio State, Ole Miss and Virginia.

I am not sure yet if USC will be there. www.itatennis.com should have the draw out in 1 week or so.

I've been to this event. It's AWESOME. Viewing distance is very short, and you're looking at crazy levels of talent. I got to see Amer Delic play when he was with the Illini from courtside.

Texas is ranked #2 in the country, any reason why you did not include them in the poll ? I'm not a big UT fan, but I'm curious....

I would still include them as contenders. But they don't train a lot indoors. So a team like OSU that is there 75% of the year will have an advantage. After OSU, the next team that trains mostly indoors is Illinois @ #15. Outside, it could be anyone's ballgame as the #2-14 schools train mostly outdoors.

You may make a good point, but I know that after training outside for 5-6 months, I still love going indoors to play...training outside doesn't affect my play at all...

Here's the link to what the ITA is calling the Kick-Off Weekend- basically it's two play-in rounds. The winner of each 4 team bracket advances to the Indoor Championships.
Looking at the rosters, you've got to think UCLA and Ohio State are the overwhelming favorites.

I don't even see why U Illionois is even in this poll they were beat by UVA pretty bad. I would probably vote for Georgia or Ohio State, even though Virginia was very solid when I saw them

So they win ONE match, are only 3-0 in dual meets, aren't ranked in the top 10, and somehow, in your deluded mind, are favorites to win a tournament that includes every single team ranked higher than they are? Where the hell is your logic?

Nice wins for Dom Inglot over Olivares of Middle Tennessee State and Matt Bruch at number 3 against Boise State. If he can get back up to the level he was at his sophomore year, and his recent results suggest that he's on his way there, Stanford should indeed challenge for the PAC 10 and national championships.

Did anyone go see any of the regional matches live? If so, could we get a report?

Texas qualified as well, beating TCU 4-1, but there were some very tough matches going on out there today. However, the UT #1, Dimitar Kutrovsky, was just sick, he won 60, 60 in about 35 minutes.

So what if they're in the tournament? That doesn't mean that they've got it in the bag, it means that they're one of the teams participating. You specifically said earlier that "Standford" was the favorite, despite not even being ranked in the top 10, and you say that they're the favorites because they beat a team that was ranked considerably lower than "Standford" (and whose highest ranked player is #33), yet that team still took a point and then some off "Standford". 6-1 isn't domination, 7-0 is. 6-1 means that someone had a good match and is capable of taking it to a big name in college tennis. Nothing more, nothing less.

Wherever your brain went, I suggest you find it and put it back into your head, as you're currently demonstrating that you clearly lack one at the moment.

    Tulsa Wins!

The 12th-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team used four critical singles victories to capture a 4-2 win over No. 16 LSU on Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Hurricane (7-1) advances to the round of 16 of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the first time since 2004.
Tulsa was clinging to a 3-2 lead when senior Ross Cunningham fired a cross-court, forehand winner against Mark Bowtell in the third set of No. 6 singles to seal the Tulsa win. Cunningham defeated Bowtell 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, in the final match of the day.

The Hurricane fell down 1-0 after losing their first doubles point of the season. Michael Venus and Neal Skupski climbed out of a 6-4 hole to defeat fourth-ranked Arnau Brugues and Philip Stephens, 8-6, in No. 1 doubles, and Marko Ballok and Ross Cunningham lost a tough 9-7 decision to Mark Bowtell and James Cluskey in the No. 2 position. Alberto Sottocorno and Ashley Watling picked up Tulsa's lone doubles win with an 8-3 decision over Sebastian Carlsson and Jonathan Tragardh.

Tulsa bounced back and claimed three straight singles points from Arnau Brugues in the No. 1 position, Victor Kolik in the No. 2 spot and Philip Stephens in No. 3 singles to take a 3-1 lead. Arnau Brugues, ranked No. 10 in the nation, used a combination of powerful serves and precise groundstrokes to breeze past second-ranked Michael Venus, 6-1, 6-1.

My words: Wow! Arnau was brutal.

I was at the UGA match this weekend, and it was great. Washington definetly came out and played tougher than anyone thought they would, but Georgia still pulled it out.

If I based their performance soley on what I saw Sunday, I wouldn't give them much of a chance of winning, but Jamie Hunt was hurt. He and Schnugg are a great doubles team, and Hunt is strong singles player, assuming he recovers fully in the next two weeks. Georgia may not have the most talent, but they definetly have the most fight. GO DAWGS!

If the rankings stay as they are, then #12 Tulsa will meet my #5 Virginia boys in the first round. I think Tulsa will be a serious underdog in that one.

I would like to point out that illinois men's did not even participate in the kick off weekend. this has been another example where fedace makes an incorrect post which will only confuse people when they wonder why Illinois didn't advance into the main draw.

If they line up 11 vs. 6, as expected, it would be a Pac-10 showdown vs. USC.

USC will go down on this one. I am looking forward to Michigan as well. Jason Jung plays #1 singles there. I wonder why he didn't go to Stanford, being from California and all. who would Michigan play in the 1st round ?

I'm surprised Illinois is hosting. Not because they are not a worthy host, as they are a very good tennis program, but because the Atkins Tennis Center on campus only has 6 indoor courts (unless the facility expansion they are undergoing so they can host the outdoor NCAA tournament includes new indoor courts, but I don't think it does).

The City of Champaign does have a facility with 5 indoor courts, but it's a couple of miles from campus.

I know the AC Nielsen complex in Madison, Wisconsin, where the Women's National Team Indoors is played has 12 courts.

Just seems kinda small for an event of this size.

Possibly, if I'm in Chicago for the weekend. I actually live in Springfield, which is 3.5 hours SW of Chicago. I was excited when I first heard Illinois was hosting, figuring that it would be in Champaign, which is only 70 minutes from Springfield.

I think it is worth the drive. i say this cause this year, truly the best players in division 1 will be there. and lots of varying styles of play as well. Smith from Univ of Tennessee plays serve and volley, he is a Aussie. and lots of future greats like Clayton, Thacher.

With standard seeding and draws, Michigan would play Georgia in the first round.
