    This sounds fishy...

    ---January 29, 2010

(ONews) Former women's professional tennis player and Tennis Channel commentator Martina Navratilova was embroiled this morning in a controlversy surrounding her on air comments about smoking marijuana, a banned substance in professional sports and highly illegal in Austrailia, site of the 2010 Austrailian Open.

During the men's semi final beteen Jo Wilfreid Tsonga and Roger Federer the former women's tennis number one reportedly told Bob Macatee she was going to "put some dope in her pipe and smoke it." Roger Federer had just a hit a rediculous inside out forehand short cross court winner in the first set at the 5-2 mark. Navratilova, thinking her mic was on mute was witnessed reaching into her fanny pack and took out a glass "pot smoking device" and tried to pack it with some local Melbourne Blue Dynamite, a powerful indican variant of the drug that reportedly has killed 7 Melbourne University students in the last 3 months. It was also reported that a surveilance video was caught of Navratilova purchasing the marijuana the previous evening outside Rod Laver arena from Brisbanian drug gangs.

WTA players have expressed shock at the news that traveled fast Friday morning. WTA founder Billie Jean King was contacted at her Melbourne estate, "Martina is very resillient, with the right treatment and focus she can rid herself of this awful disease. Addiction haunts the fabric of our society, no one is immune to this disease."

The story is in sharp contract to Andre Agassi, the former world's #1 who admitted to past methampthetimine abuse, a much softer an accepted drug of choice on the men's ATP tour. He also admitted lying to the ATP about positive results in 1997. Agassi, speaking from his home in Las Vegas via conference call was quoted as saying "pot is a really dangerous drug that has destroyed lives not only here in Las Vegas but in communities across Hawaii and the greater Canadian empire. Pot has been part of the problem and we're just sticking bandaids on these problems and not really doing anything about getting a solution and stuff. I really hope Martina comes out of this OK."

Mcatee said he would have enjoyed lighting up with Martina after Federer hit that disgusting forehand winner but he "prefers joints with dry, aged pot with bottom of the bag crystals" rather than Martin'a "bowls of sticky indica bud."

"The Indica really makes me sleepy and say stupid stuff on air," Macatee said. He also says joints are easier to conceal when getting stoned while on air. "You just mute the mic temporarily and take a big puff being careful to not quaff one out too loud. Joints don't make you cough if you take small baby hits."

Tennis Channel for its part appears to stand behind Martina and issued a statement that said, "come on man, everyone smokes pot, even grand slam champions. Its unfortunate Martina could not wait until after the match to get silly."

Navratilova has not commented on the story and referred all questions to her attorneys in Dallas.

Why is it illegal anyway? Is tobacco illegal on tour as well? Or coffee? Especially coffee is more performance enhancing, just as addictive as some 'good' marihuana.

(yeah come on, make a joke about me being from the Netherlands)

Whatever you say Cheech von Chong.

Sorry that was lame, but it was all I got this late at night.

Really though. In the US, you can go to a gun shop and own a seriously deadly weapon with no trouble at all and it is completely legal. Yet if I want to smoke some pot and play Virtua Tennis 3, I have to break the law. It's just not right.
