I think that Knicks under MDA were a top 6-7 defensive team one year. Phoenix never played any D so that's that but they almost got to the finals despire injuries and suspensions. I'm not the biggest fan of Pringles but i think guy desreves a chance. People (me included) are mad how the whole "Phil thing" got handled. It is, what it is. MDA never had so much talent on his teams... Phil always ;)
    Here's a funny vid,

    P.s. Westbrook won't change ;)

He will when he gets booted to a non-contender because he's a black hole for the basketball.

The thing about those Phoenix years was that, you can throw a Mike Brown, Tom Thibodeau, and your favorite defensive oriented coach in there and they still wouldn't play defense. They just didn't have the personnel.

With any MD team they are ghoing to give up points. Based solely on the amopunt of posessions the other team gets as well.

In my opinion they more important stats is FG % against so not only do toher teams shoot more, but they make a very large percentage of thsoe shots compared to other teams. The Knicks were never higher than 24th in the league under dantoni. They were never much better under Isiah in his last couple years either though.

Compare that to when Dantoni was with the Suns and they were always in the middle teens with FG against. Knicks this year so far are top 10 in FG against.

Last year the Knics were 5th in ponits allowed per 100 possesions. But alot of the has to do with the final 25 games under woodson

Yeah, Mike D has never NEVER coached a top 10 defensive team, don't know where peptka got that info from.

This is why hiring Nate McMillan would be huge.

I don't know either:evil: In his last year they were good thanks to Woodson taking over. Lakers never practiced D under Phil anyways, so it's all "good" ;)

McMillian's teams in Portland were never that great statistically on D, they just played a slow pace - ironically, the exact opposite of what Mike D would like.

He is a good defensive coach. Runs a good scheme. Plus he now has Dwight Howard.

Impressive Heat cooldown by the Clips...I never thought in a lifetime I could dare say Sterling owns a contender. A couple of stallions, role players, a deep bench and a coach who knows which buttons to push...nice recipe for play in May!

Vinny's true colors will show as the season goes on...trust me.

Numbers don't lie. The highest any team he's coached has finished in defense is 13th. Most of the time his teams are the bottom 5 in defense.

Thats good, but around the league Nate Mac is highly respected for his defensive schemes regardless of player execution. Thats all I am saying. I don't see the need to argue about everything. Nate McMillan would be brought to LA to coach the defense. Thats a fact. Another fact is that Dwight Howard is going to make his schemes a whole lot better than anyone he has coached in the past.

VDN is fine by me...1st year coach takes #7 seed to game 7 vs the Celts w/4 OT games in the series. He knows his stuff. This year, he's got people buying in to the team concept...Caron Butler, being OK with weight loss and reduced minutes bcoz Vinny wants him fresher in May...that's good leadership.

I think the Lakers defensivly will be better than alot of people think. They will outscore opeple enough to win regular season games and ilmit the minutes of the older and hobble starters.

With the Suns Dantonis teams were around the middle of the pack when it comes to opponents FG percentage. I think the lakers can be at least that good. The increased possensions will keep the points per game stat toward the bottom of the league but that is offset by the increased offensive posseions as well.

The key to beating the Lakers will be to make good on the mid rang jumpers. Dwight will make any shot around the basket hard. And they will guard the three good enough. Temas will have to hit a high percentage of mid range 2pt shots (the least efficient shot in basketball). If they are smart they will pressure guys at the theree line and force those mid range jump shots.

Dantonis was very close those couple yeaers to making the NBA finals. And that was when the west was owning the east in the finals. A couple came off the bench when Horry pulled the Lex Luger running shoulder butt on nash and got susepnded. I think the Spurs swept the Cavs that year.

I think the Lakers figure out and are just a good a bet as anyone in the west to lose to MIA in the finals. Evry team in the west has questions.

The Spurs are old and can the bench maintain in Playoffs and not fall off like they did to OKC?

The Clips are young and will Paul and the young running studs be enough to win 4 7 gamers.

Can Memphis guards keep shooting at such a high Percentage?

Can the thunder get close to equal production and steady scoring off the bench with Harden gone? It doesnt look good for them so far.

Can the lakers stay healthy enough and play good enough D. I think the health is the biggest concern for them.

One of Vinny biggest problems has been game/clock and bench managemnt. That is actually somehting you can develop as you coach and I think he will improve.

Not trying to argue about it, just stating my opinion. Nate McMillian won't help Nash shut down guards like Parker and Westbrook, and it's only so many driving PGs Dwight can handle before he gets into quick foul trouble again and again. I'm just being devil's advocate here, we don't all have to agree, ya know?

That article is good. It basically says what I said and what you said. At this point it's on him getting hired. But he will have Dwight Howard. He has never had a great paint defender besides Oden. His defenses are all about funneling players to the paint, and that is why the Magic wanted him (if Dwight stayed) and why the Lakers are interested.

Doesn't help when the refs rob a team of a key steal late in the game.

I think D'Antoni will introduce a up tempo game, but nothing close to Phoenix. The Lakers age and size makes them a big liability on transition defense, and that probably won't change regardless of how Nate schemes.

More likely, D'Antoni will set up a flex offense, something like what Jerry Sloan did in Utah. Both Kobe and Steve can handle the ball. Both Pau and Dwight can set up screens. Unlike the old Phoenix teams, Lakers don't have a stretch 3 or a true stretch 4. They may end up trading Metta or Pau to get that guy.

Kobe and a 70% there Dwight were scoring at career efficiency under the Princeton. They may get better numbers on D'Antoni's offense.

I don't think Lakers are getting Nate. MDA said he'll talk with him in the summer about joining the staff, so it's next year... if at all.

How was the game? Just looking at the box score it looks like a good one, the scoring was spread out between both teams. I see Parker and Anthony missed more than they're used to though!

I wasnt paying attention to the NBA the WNBA stole the headlines last night.

Former WNBA star Chamique Holdsclaw is in custody after being accused of shooting into a woman's car after using a bat to break its windows.

Atlanta police said Thursday the incident happened Tuesday after the Olympic gold medalist followed 29-year-old Jennifer Lacy to her car. Lacy plays for the Tulsa Shock.

No one was injured. Lacy identified the 35-year-old Holdsclaw, one of the biggest stars in women's college basketball history during her career at Tennessee, as an ex-girlfriend. They were teammates with the Atlanta Dream in 2009.

Knicks are looking pretty good :) It's still early but i hope they can keep it up... and that Stat won't eff it up. I would seriously consider bringing him of the bench.

~ All is right in NBA Land ~

     ~ The Knickerbockers ~
    ___________________________________________

    ^^^^ Hey! ..... keep it "classy" u kids ;-]

    Hola FenaCatorce,
Knicks were down by 11 with 7 minutes left, then went on a 22-11 run to pull it out. Raymond Felton was lights out as was J.R. Smith. Kidd contributed a pair of clutch three-pointers down the stretch. The Spurs focused on stopping Carmelo Anthony from scoring and it worked--he ended up with only 9 points. They double and at times triple-teamed him. Late in the 1st half, a frustrated Melo had a litte pity party while the Knicks were swinging the ball around to the open man (i.e. away from him) and he responded by forcing a number of shots to no effect. From there, he wised up and contributed significantly the rest of the way by playing team ball....hitting the open man, playing defense and rebounding.

Spurs didn't not shoot well (and had two turnovers) down the stretch, while the Knickerbockers turned up the "D" and lit it up both from downtown and driving/crashing the boards. Of course the NYK will come back down to earth, but for now, I'll chirp if you don't mind (wink).....I mean one can take just so much non-stop chatter from the Late Nite West Coast-based ESPN Sportscenter about the Lakers' Phil/D'antoni/losing/panic soap opera...

Na,na,na,naaa.....you obviously meant to say, "and in other news?..." ;-)

Utah Jazz vs. Philly Sixers 11-16-12, ugliest game of the season thus far. Don't let the score fool you, it got into the 90s because neither teams played defense, it was ugly.

The last 20 seconds of the game felt like 20 minutes.

Still can't believe no one is talking about the Memphis Grizzles. Yes, they haven't made it deep in the Playoffs, but they've improved each year. Losing in a Game 7 is no shame.

Best frontcourt, and a deep bench. They're well balanced and they don't have a glaring hole.

Nice 2nd half comeback for the Magic's first road win and it was no coincidence it came with Jameer finally back in the lineup. He will have to be the glue holding it together while this very young team goes through its growing pains. Now it's on to a back-to-back with Toronto/Atlanta. Neither will be easy.

NYK vs Memphcouver Grizzles -- Knick's lack of 'beef' upfront exposed esp. on the boards

Randolph has always been one of my fav's, now playing like a taller Barkley.
Gasol seems more in it than his Laker's bro.
Gay is a combi athlete/superstar jump to the moon kind of player.
    Does scoring guards equal championships?
    Let's trade Bogut for Bynum.

Keep Bynum with Doug Colins, he's a great teacher of the game and Bynum should really benefit from him.

Nice "Weekend at Bernie's" for the Lakers as they running well even w/o Nash & D'Antoni on the bench! Old Bick is still a good benchrunner.
