I have a friend playing Junior College tennis this year. His coach told him that next year there will be a new rule ONLY 2 FOREIGN PLAYERS PER ROSTER

    can anyone here confirm this?

Intense rule change if its true!!

I don't see how the NCAA could implement such a rule without a four year head's up. Secondly, I don't think it's an issue that a national body would deal with. I could see individual conferences making rules like that, or an individual school, but not the national body.

Mainly because tennis is a non revenue sport with a minimal number of scholarships. No matter where you fall on the "domestic versus foreign players" issue in tennis, you have to admit that in the grand scheme of college athletics, it's a really small issue.

What state is this taking place?

If California, the JCC state system is making major cuts to the JCC system next year, no money.

They had that rule in JUCO D2 (before it folded into D1). Basically it had to do with scholarships, you could not have more than 2 foreign players on scholarship, but there are obviously creative ways (i.e. academic scholarships) still bring in the better players.

I haven't heard on if that was passed or not (they voted on it last week). JUCO was already limited to 2 internationals on scholarship, this rule was to limit it to two internationals period. So if you already have two on scholly, none on academic scholarship, no walk ons, etc.

I think its kind of tough to tell a kid that I know you pay WAY more than most of our students but you can't play on our team.

95% of the top juco's are absolutely in **** if that is the rule that gets passed. It would be better if they were allowed 4 imo, 2 is too little and having no limit is a bit of a joke on some teams..

    New Juco rule

It passed late March at convention.
1/4th of roster can only be international. Roster I believe is limited to 9. The intent is to keep to two internationals, will be a big change. As a former Juco coach I like it -- wish NCAA NAIA could follow.

    New rule

Forgot to mention it isn't for next year, its the year after. So freshman this year can finish their sophomore year up. Will go into effect Fall 2012.

I am surprised at this new legislation the NJCAA did. I wonder how this will play out in the NCAA?

The NJCAA is getting crazy with their new rules. The newest they tried to pass was an age limit. If you are 21 you lose one year of eligibility and if you are over 23 you can't play.
