    Hey Ya'll....

Anyone familiar with Newk's and been there recently? I heard a rumor that they are getting ready to build soon. Anything would be useful.

    Getting ready to build what?

I was there the first week of December 2003, and had a GREAT time.
I was there for a week in October 2004, and had a REALLY GOOD time.
    I'm going back next week.

I have been to several other tennis resorts/camps, but I think Newk's the best. The instruction is first rate, the food is very good and plentiful, and the accomodations are fine and clean, but not posh. Aside from the 5+ hours of tennis instruction every day, you can schedule evening matches for free, use the pool or jacuzi, or just hang out in the bar. The Pro's eat all the meals with you, and everyone from the receptionist to the gardner is very friendly. The price includes tennis instruction, meals, and lodging. The beers are on you. They have 4 clay courts, about 20 hard courts, and 4 covered hard courts. They helped my game a lot both times I was there. I can't wait to get back next week!

They also have an academy of kids that live there fulltime, but they steer clear of the adults. However, if you WANT to go watch some of them, you can. Some of them are pretty amazing.

Go to www.NewkTennis.com for more info. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, just a satisfied customer. Also, go to www.TennisResortsOnline.com to read feedback from other people that have gone there.

    Geezer Guy,

I am a student of Newk's [Junior Program]. I heard they are building new courts between courts 12 and 24 [ the gazebo area]. The court numbers may be wrong. NOT the condo courts that are mostly for the adults. Fill me in if you see any sign of construction.

    Daniel

P.S. HAVE A GREAT TRIP TO NEWKS! If you see Phil Hendrie, (this is tres korney) him Daniel says hi. [Fossil Phil, he works with the academy kids]

Thanks and have a great trip and fill me in!

    Daniel

Still there on and off. I'm trying to play more now before I get too old, but I train there usually in the evenings. You're not there anymore right? Btw, I doubt they'd build more courts as of now. Where did you hear about this?

I'm back. Had a great time! I didn't see any signs of new construction up in that area. I spoke briefly with Fossil Phil and a bit more with Graham. (Graham was an adult instructor the last two times I was there.) Sorry - I forgot to tell them that Daniel says HI. I also met and spoke with Newk and Davi VERY briefly. The main instructor I worked with was Chris. Also had Ryan a couple of days, and when needed there were 3 interns that helped out that you may or may not know. Anthony, Edie, and Bea. Come to think of it, you probably wouldn't know Anthony because he'd only been there a week or two. Anthony & Bea were from England, Edie was from Brazil. Chris was from AUS, and Ryan from USA. All in all, a very good week. I'm anxious to see how my new forehand holds up in competition.

Hey sorry I couldn't talk long. I was with my GF the first time and training the 2nd time and got busy with my dad's new business the rest of the time. I wanted to go for a hit with you so I could brag about your Forehand to the guys here :) Anyhow, maybe next time.

No worries. I would have just messed things up for you with your GF anyway. You know how they go for us "mature" guys. :) (ha ha)
Anywho, Chris changed my forehand a fair amount, so it was looking pretty ugly for a couple of days there. I'm getting ready to go hit with a ball machine now to whack it into place for good. I've got league matches on Thursday and Saturday, so it needs to be solid by then.

Maybe I'll see you next year. If the pattern holds, I'll be down for a week sometime from October - December, 2006.

It's ok, she likes immature ones or else she wouldn't be with me ;) Drop me an e-mail, I want to show you something on the forehand that a lot of people don't mention.

When I was there recently Chris & Ryan said that they run camps every week of the year, and clinics every day of the year EXCEPT two. One was Christmas, and I'm pretty sure the other was Thanksgiving. You could call their 800-number to find out for sure.

Ryan is a young guy (early-to-mid 20's), dark hair, outgoing & funny. I don't think he was clean-shaven - but not a big bushy beard either. Maybe a little goatee, or maybe just kinda "scruffy". I don't remember for sure. He said he'd been there about three years, but had been working with academy kids. He just started working with adults pretty recently.

What an OUTSTANDING weekend!!...again:smile: Team Texas kicked some serious butt on Team Australia.... LOL...Team Oklahoma was WELL represented as was Team FortWorth...:D I was so looking forward to seeing Davi , but he wasn't around....all was well when I got to hook up with Sol ,...and his evil twin Hor-hay...Team Canada was able to squeeze at least one of the "prestigious" awards that get handed out!!..Next April when I return, I will definitely book an extra airline seat, inorder to place my 5 ft solid gold trophy next to me!!...Hopefully, nothing evil happens to those trophies like what happened last weekend, when somehow the 5ft solid gold trophies mysteriously "shrunk" in size??? LOL
