SOCK broken in the third
Hernych over Sock 6-3 4-6 6-4.
Hewitt up next on Center Court against wildcard Prakash Amritraj.
Bad loss for Sock. Maybe expected after a long week last week but still....
Hewitt cruises to a win over Amritraj, 6-2 6-1. Journeyman Michael Russell also with a straight sets win over Alex Kuznetsov, 6-3 6-4.
Wow, Isner playing Mannarino(who had good result at Wimbledon). It had just rained just now. I have no idea any human being can return J Isner's serve on this wet glass like slick surface.
6-0 Isner. 15 minute set some kind of record?
Isner, Karlovic r3 on the cards.
Gsm Isner. Mannerino had rf's banned wimbledon shoes on.
Isner finishes off Mannarino in the 2nd set tiebreak and will face Karlovic in the QF's. Interesting matchup!
Saw Hernych play at HOF Monday.
Solid player and was playing good tennis....
Mahut with a straight sets victory over Tim Smyczek 6-2 6-4, which sets up these QF's:
(WC) Nicolas Mahut vs Michal Przysiezny
(3) Igor Sijsling vs Michael Russell
(Q) Jan Hernych vs (4) Lleyton Hewitt
Ivo Karlovic vs (2) John Isner
Mannarino only won 6 points off Big John's serve
Igor still going
I know This is exactly why Wimbledon changed to slow grass. Big serves just is impossible to return. Too bad for Isner. he would had a real shot at winning the Big W if they still played on Fast grass.:???:
No, he wouldn't have.
All the good grasscourters had to also learn to get returns back in play. On 90s grass, Isner would have lots of matches like against Mahut - matches where he can't be broken, but he can't break the other guy either, and so it comes down to just a few points in a few tiebreaks. That doesn't win you Wimbledon; that gets you the occasional upset.
There were one-sided guys like Isner and Karlovic back then too, but they didn't win; the winners were those who had something besides a serve to make a dent during return games.
But then Isner is the master of tiebreakers. his winning % in tiebreaker is incredible good.
Mahut doing very good!!
Today I bet Sijsling to beat Russell in 3 sets  odds : 4.18 that's possible
Ivo vs Issie QF...will they issue full-face helmets to linespeople and spectators in the front rows???
I'm guessing 2 TB's minimum!
^ Oh no, not a diesel serving match...
Igor just took it into a 3rd.
Looking very possible now as Sijsling is 2-0 up in the 3rd set.
but has been broken back, this ****
5/5 last set and Sijsling missed a break point... will probably loose the match now
Tie break again:shock:
i'm not watching it
3-3 in the tie break
GG Russell anyway
Russell/Sijsling allowed Newport officials to make sure scoreboards are fully functional for tracking TB scores in the Ivo/Izzie match.
Issie takes set 1 in a TB (7-3). Zero break chances for either, 19 aces total. What a surprise!
Fantastic tennis this is how grass court tennis should be played, it was such a shame big John had to retire in the 2nd round, it devalued the tournament and robbed fans around the world of seeing many pundits tip for SW19
the match here
7/6 Isner and 3/3
2nd set a carbon copy of the first...7-6(3), 7-6(3) Issie. Zero break points in 24 service games.
What a contrast...on serve late 1st set but two breaks already. Hernych and Hewitt both crafty veterans but no big results from the Czech. He is 13-2 on grass this year (includes qualie matches) with the losses to Monfils and GGL.
This was scheduled to be on Sportsnet 1 here in Canada but they're showing a sports talk show instead. Disappointed.
Oh well, not the biggest tournament in the world to miss.
Hernych with the TB in the first set but down a break early in the second. Fans getting the max per set so far.
Hewitt is up 3-0 in the 3rd set after winning the 2nd 6-4.
Hewitt wins 6-7 6-4 6-2
Sets up a rematch of last years final, Hewitt vs Isner.
hewitt my man!!
Semifinals are set:
(WC) Nicolas Mahut vs Michael Russell
(4) Lleyton Hewitt vs (2) John Isner
Mahut, zero titles prior to June, is two matches away from a second title in a month!
What a turnaround after his knee problems over the past year.
This could very easily be a rematch of The Marathon in the final...maybe a 70-68 decisive TB:twisted:! Jimmy Van Alen would turn in his grave!
I want to see Mahut beat john in the final, it would just be cool for him on so many fronts
Anyone think Hewitt can roll back the years against Isner?
hewitt absolutely LUVS playin the big and tall guys on grass .... it wont be rollin back the years, but unless Isner can pull a Justin Brown, then Lleyton has a good chance to win!
It's a popcorn match big John is showing the world what the missed on Centre Court at the all England Club last week Sunday, the fans around the world were robbed of seeing the man Jim Courier described as the most destructive force in men's tennis.
is it raining or what ?
Maybe not for much longer. Jerzy J. is hot on his heels! ;-)
