It is interesting that no male player in tennis history has won the next Grand Slam after winning their First Grand Slam. (Nastase and Connors won the next Grand Slam they played after winning their first Grand Slam, but skipped a grand slam after their first win.)

Amazingly, no male player has even reached the next Grand Slam final after winning their first Grand Slam.

Oops,of course he did. I kept thinking he didn't start winning any non-Wimbledon Slams until after Wimby 04. So much for my little contribution to the neat coincidence angle of tennis achievements!

Is Federer the first to win his 2nd grand slam in only 2nd attempt?

he played USO 2003 and lost in the 4th round, so he doesn't have this record...

Don Budge won his first slam at Wimbledon, then won his next one right away at the US Open! Six Slams in a row to boot as well.

Rene Lacoste, Fred Perry, Don Budge, Bobby Riggs, Ken Rosewall, Lew Hoad and John Newcombe, have all won their second major straight after their first, since the current 4 majors all became official majors in 1925.

All these men did it in the amateur era. It's never been done in the open era.

Federer lost to Nalbandian in USO 2003.
Nadal lost to Muller in Wimbledon 2005. (LOL)
Djokovic lost to Nadal in RG 2008.

Murray's gonna lose to some joke guy in AO 2013.

I actually think the nature of Murray's first win gives him a better chance than the other 3 players. Murray is not really a youngster, he's been competing with the other top 3 players for a few years, made 5 slam finals, he just needed that extra bit to win. So now he definitely can make at least the semis of the AO, maybe even win it.

Talking non slam events, in 2008 Del Potro won 3 more tournaments in a row right after he got his first one in Stuttgart.
