That looks really stupid! Trying to be different??? Just grow up and realize there are times you have to look dignified and not worry about bucking the establishment.

It's akin to the guy who wears flip flops under his graduation gown. I guess since they didn't even let the guys wear different ties(same striped pattern), he had to show his individuality somehow. Doesn't really surprise me though, it's Andy.

Yes, he has this tendency in interviews and otherwise to try to be over-casual, with the intent of not being considered a fussy or pretentious person, but of course he ends in the opposite direction.

Folksy in the wrong way and at the wrong times ...

    I am feeling the sneaks.

The clothing companies of the other seven players are probably kicking themselves over the missed opportunity.

I agree with just letting him be who he is. Whats so wrong about wearing sneaks with a suit anyway? Just because he is wearing them doesnt mean that he was trying to look 'cool'. Its just what he wants to wear.

good call Andy, wearing a boy's shoes to a man's tournament.

I'd rag on Fed too if he did that.

ROFL, ah ETennisACE7 the infamous 15 yr old tennis player imposter. If anyone doesn't know the story on this obnoxious liar, I encourage you to read

    http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/viewtopic.php?t=22543&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

It's a long thread but very amusing. I won't ruin the surprise twist ending for you.

I think the dress code probably called for black shoes. They probably didn't specify leather.

Personally I don't mind Andy Roddick's informal touches. They make tennis seem more fun, more hip, more (dare I say it?) pop. After all, this isn't the PGA tour.

Hewitt isn't exactly wearing dress shoes either. But I guess there aren't enough Hewitt-haters out there.

Tetsuo10, I value your input which is why I'm replying, but please try not to start with the Roddick hating label. I started this thread in a neutral manner, inviting everyone to give their opinion on the shoes and Roddick's taste in this one matter. I do not want to degenerate this into Roddick hating and loving issues.

You may have started the thread as neutral, but you know very well the type of posters on the "Player" discussion board will start their diatribe at any chance they see an opening against Roddick.

I think the shoes are inappropriate, but then again, so are those barbershop-striped ties. :D

the thing i don't get is if someone is bashing a player, who cares? i mean, it's not like they're dropping smack on your mom or anything. do you think you will be able to change the opinion of the poster you label a hater? of course not, so the topic usually goes from a decent conversation into yet another flame war that no one will "win". (unless you get into it enough to set someone up ala the soul machine perfmode green, the sneaky rasterbator) i don't care that people bash roddick or anyone else. the point is, they're still pro's and could wail on us, so the bashers in the end really look more foolish if their comments are left to stand. peace

What I don't understand is why the Keds? He is under contract by Reebok and I would think they would be the ones that are not too happy about this.

Who is the next to last guy in line? I'm assuming the last guy is Gaudio?

That may well be, but they haven't yet. Like Brettol points out, when the label hater comes out, it is akin to an insult and it is not aimed at a player but at posters themselves....flames ensue....lol.

I do agree however, the ties are astonishingly bad. I blame Brad Gilbert and PatMac for those. I don't know if they are directly linked to the ties but they are getting on my nerves the last few years....plus they are haters. ;-)

LOL. Maybe they were all suppose to wear black Raiders cap as well with those suits. Then Andy will rebel and wear some ugly Nebraska CornHuskers cap. Then I'd have to beat down Andy and paint a burnt orange Longhorn on his forehead.

Brad Gilbert definitely had nothing to do with the ties. In Tennis magazine he said real men only wear black, and maybe a little white or grey. What a punk. I thought that looked like Canas, but I still thought it was Gaudio. Gaudio is shorter than I thought. I guess Canas is the alternate?

I just realized that a third of the Masters players this yr (including Canas) are Argentines. Well done.

Maybe he's only under contract for sportswear (whatever he wears on court while playing). Offcourt I think he can wear anything, like those "BEER is not just for breakfast" shirts. 8)

I beg to differ. They are both in the athletic shoe business. I understand where you are going with this, Reebok is a high end performance shoe whereas Keds is more of a fashion thing. I would have to believe however that the vast majority of people buying Reeboks (or any sneakers) are just wearing them as shoes and not specifically for athletic activities. So from that stand point yes, they are in competition with each other.
