the air trainer 1 2008 were supposed to be slightly different...
finally they will be like the 2002's.

My fear is that high tops would weigh too much for my tastes. Does anyone know how much they weigh? Anything over 17 oz. is too heavy for me.

they don't weigh too much, but they are strickly for the flat footed unless you have some good heel insoles. Manuverability is difficult, and I can feel every incch of the hard court beneath me. They are some of the most well crafted, best looking shoes Nike ever made. For tennis however, think again.

I can weigh em later if you like, but the thing is, these were released under the Nike Sport Culture branch... meaning they aren't meant for performance (I'm talking about the 2008 release)... these also run about 1/2 a size small, so if anyone's looking to pick up a pair, go up 1/2 a size...

pretty much... with my 2002's, I had to take the sockliner out and it was still snug... with the 2008's, the sockliner is glued on, so that option is outta the question...

well, its not that bad actually... it's a bit strange initially, but you get used to it... and its not really what I would call 'uncomfortable'...

I just saw that a competitors site has the new Mac Trainers up for sale. They claim to have a heavier duty sole on them for tennis.

I'd bet TW will have them available in the next couple of days....

Good call. I hope TW stocks them, because they look great. If they indeed have beefed up soles, they should be a welcome addition to the Nike line-up.

I inquired about these in the Q&A forum... TW's Jason said that they will be getting them on July 9th...

I got my pair in the mail today. I was able to get an hour of court time with them on tonight and I have to say that they did not let me down. They are very cushioned and have a lower to the ground feel than I expected. The lateral support is better than the BFII's in my opinion. They have plenty of room in the toe box and were very comfortable on my wide feet. The 3/4 cut does take a little time to get used to though.

Airwolf - apparently, the competitor website you got the Zoom Trainers from jumped the gun on releasing these and have since removed them from their website until the 'official' release date... so you got lucky in getting them the other day, earlier than all of us! nice to see that they honored the transaction and sent them out right away to you... a lot of Nike tennis shoes from the 90s were a 3/4 cut so this is exactly what I'm looking for... all the stuff now is in a low cut which i don't prefer... also good to know that the forefoot area has room for wide/wider feet (like mine)... how did the toe-area hold up on the court? did they scuff up really fast?

Necktie - according to the 'competitor' website... "Average weight: 13.8 oz. (Size 10.5)"

The soles are definitely more sturdy than the originals! They have a 1/2 inch strip of white XDR sole material around the outside of the toe. The grey sole material around the forefoot and heel is softer. The grey cap on the toe is made of a hard vinyl material for extra toe dragging protection.

Sinner - I forgot to answer your question about the toe on these. No wear on the toe so far, but like I said, I only played an hour on them. As I have gotten older, I'm less and less hard on shoes. It's all about comfort now....

Yes, true to size. My 10.5 was the same fit as my BFII's and Cage 1's. Just a tad bit wider.
