Thanks for the reply. How did you know the shorts were white/orange? If you look at the picture, it's clearly gray.

I saw a real picture and not a promotional pic from Nike on a french website and he was clearly white. I contacted TWE, they confirmed it.

Whatever shorts Nike sells, Federer will be wearing white ones at Wimbledon

Ha, I was anticipating for Chi to post here.

This Wimbledon kit is officially The Most Bland Kit I've Ever Seen.

I know the tradition for Wimbledon is to wear white as a primary color, but these outfits have no originality and/or personality, they need to hire one of those stereotypical fashion designers from New York, LA, or Miami and do a complete overhaul on the kits in the future.

What's next for the US Open? A bland blue/yellow kit?

Regardless, there are suckers who still buy this crap. These clothes look like Nike knock-offs.

they took a white polo, put a vent detail system on the BACK of the neck, put a rf logo and a swoosh, charged it for the cost of a jacket, and called it a day -_-

It's because idiots will continue to worship these athletes and pay an absurd amount of money for a shirt. I'll buy this stuff when it's on sale for like $40.

+1. After seeing the Olympics and the colors of the outfits on the courts of W, now back to almost totally white, is sad. Would like to see the AELTC drop the white quotient down to 75% - and the vendors to use every bit of the remaining 25% to make decent clothes.

The shirts are multicolored all year, I for one welcome the white shirts that arrive with Wimbledon as I've never been into color coded outfits (but prefer tennis shirts due to running ones for the generally shorter sleeves and longer torso length).

On a note not related to you, West Coast, I do agree that the original price point is absurd and that $40 or below makes more sense- but let's remember this a tennis forum with a section about clothing so I'm not sure why all roads have to lead to the played out reference of "first world problems."

There used to be some great Wimby fits but this crap that nike released is just plain laziness. I will always keep my red piped Cerutti 1881 that Connors wore.

Must agree, not much going on with this line. Hopefully the USO line will make up for this and the FO blandness.

I miss the days of actual, albeit subtle, designs on Nike shirts.

2010 Wimbledon Shirt was better... it's a pity that his performance ruined the "aura" of it.

    Um....... No....

The Murray line may not be bland, it suffers on poor design due to the misplaced combination of colors and location of the design on the shirts..

Federer's Wimbledon line this year isn't really my type. I don't know why they chose orange it seems to out of place. Black, green, gold or people with a better design would have done the job better.

I don't mind bland designs but if it's bland I hope it has a classic look, something this orange line-up doesn't.

I'll probably just get the Lawn Union Grass shirt.

It's that time of year for my annual Wimby design rant

For the benefit of those unaware or who may not remember, there was a time as recently as the late 1990s when LARGE splashes of in-your-face-colour was wholly acceptable attire at Wimbledon. The pic below is a random example. It's a mid-90s Reebok shirt typical of the range that guys like Mal Washington, Todd Martin and Michaels Chang and Stich would've worn at the time:

What I'm trying to say is that the blandification of Wimbledon attire is attributable to some kinda Vulcan Mind-Meld or Kenobian Jedi mind-trick where apparel designers who are unschooled in the colourful history of tennis apparel pay no heed to colour and instead think that white is the only colour permissible.

There is a collective amnesia going on between them and the execs who sign off on those designs. Together they seem to be consumed by the AELTC's yesteryear traditions to the exclusion of colourful flair and flourishes of style. They focus on the "predominantly white" diktat to the exclusion of any other colour, as if red, yellow or blue is forbidden.

Sheesh, if the mindset of the designers and execs today were in play back in the late 70s then the iconic looks of Borg and Vilas would never have seen the light of day at SW19.

Do you even think the Wimbledon officials would even accept this anymore? Also, that kind of looks like a Hawaiian Polo or a Polo to wear during Miami or Indian Wells.. :-|

If you want to mock people take aim at the fanboys who take it to the extreme in wearing colour-matched, same brand, pro-inspired outfits and who use the frame their favourite does whilst debating the merits of infinitesimal differences in string set-up.... but then play tennis at 3.5 level.

4.5+ players play with a regular t-shirt(discounted poly shirt if its a good day) and shorts, maybe a baseball cap if it's a little bright. :)

In this day an age though, it's hard to get a name brand collared shirt that's of decent quality for much less than 40-50 bucks.

The Nike Tennis Polos here cost around $35. You can get Lacoste Sport polos for $50. Those are already full retail price without discount. If you're in the US I think you can even get them at a lower price. If you're in Europe then there's really no way you can get branded collared shirts within that range at full price.

Well personally I'm not a fan of those expensive tennis polos. I just buy a pack of Gildans and Hanes shirts, some Nike shorts and I'm good to go.

Well, this years' polo is actually as plain as this one, with just colored swoosh and collar mesh panel... PLUS subtil fabric detail just as on your 2009 picture.
2009 had herringbone stripes, 2013 has subtil vents holes on front and stripes on shoulder (just like both clay crews).

For me it's not boring as they conpensate the absence of colors by subtil fabric details. I don't understand why it should be more boring than 2009 or 2010 !

(edit: not attacking you, though. Just discussing :) )
