Roger Federer is a tennis legend. When he captured his 7th Wimbledon title on Sunday, July 8 he did what legends tend to do: break records. On July 16, Roger Federer will become the top ranked tennis player in the world for the 287th week, surpassing his idol Pete Sampras’s record of 286 weeks. To commemorate this momentous achievement, Nike is releasing a limited edition of Roger’s signature shoe, the Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour.

Only 287 pairs of the Nike Zoom Vapor RF 287 are being released globally, one for each week Roger has spent at number one. Each pair is packaged in a unique box numbered to represent a particular week of his reign, along with a certificate of authenticity signed by Roger Federer himself. The shoes feature an embroidered gold RF logo on the tongue and a large, lasered “287” in gold on the back heel. An unbelievable shoe for an unbelievable accomplishment.

This opportunity is only available at NikeStore.com. The Nike Zoom Vapor RF 287 will release at 8am EDT / 5am PDT on NikeStore.com Don’t miss your chance to own an exclusive piece of Roger’s reign at the top of the tennis world.

Yeah, geez $287 to spend on a pair of shoes. What a joke. Don't you dare wear them, they might last almost a month. That's about $10/day for the shoe. What a bargain!!!!!

Or you could save it as an investment. That's the wisest thing to do. Oh, the Nike machine.

Do you really think they will sell for $287? With only 287 pairs available worldwide good luck getting a pair for that. They will be unobtainable except for on E-bay at an outrageous markup.

It would be kind of silly to buy these shoes. Perhaps they will appreciate in value.

I don't see anyone buying them and wearing them though.

287 pairs at $287 is exacly what I predicted when this was first mentioned.

I wouldn't worry about the price because they'll sell out in a minute.

Makes you wonder how Nike knew he was going to become #1 before it happened. There was a good chance Roger would have never regained the #1 spot ever again in his career. This sort or marketing this months if not years in advance planing. Would Nike invest so much time and money in something that might have never have happened, or did they know something in advance?

I've only heard they will sell for $287/pair. Don't know it for sure. Nike is a marketing machine that most people buy into. I'm just glad I get most their stuff at a considerable discount.

No, not really, a big company these days can act quite quickly and they recognize they must.

The month after a Djokovic Slam victory was the month that Tacchini would have made a killing but there was no product to be sold.

    Celebrity commodities are perishable.

Can anyone confirm these will only go for $287? seems too good to be true for something very exclusive.

The only chance you'll get these shoes is wait for a few years until someone finally decides to sell it for $10,000...

On the other hand, they might just sell the shoe at the normal price in this colour stripped of all its commemorative marketing.

Yeah I'm really hoping they only go for 130 the price of normal Vapors, maybe even 150. That's as high as I'm willing to pay for shoes.

I might try to get some, since I'll be up, but we'll see what happens. 7 AM here, so I'll be on my computer at 6:30 anxiously waiting, haha!

The price is actually too cheap and turns the sale into a lottery, but an unregulated lottery.

Considering all the marketing was purely through social media and consisted of pretty much a few images, I could have done the campaign myself in a weekend. Wouldn't have cost Nike very much to prepare.

As for the shoe, probably costs close to nothing for them to make either, the profit they make on shoes is ridiculous.

they look pretty good though. i was expecting some golden atrocity tbh

if they really sell for 287 bucks (which i doubt) getting one would probably be a good long time investment as rich and bored collectors will be paying tenfold and more for a pair of those in the future

I'm guessing these shoes will appear on the tennis section of the nikestore.com website? I'm really hoping that I can snag a pair, but I bet they'll be sold out as soon as I click, haha.

They sold out in like 10 seconds lmao!

When I clicked to add to cart, it errored, and then below it, it said it was available only for pre-order. I was able to add it to my locker, but I don't know if that means I got it.

    beautiful shoes.
however, i cannot have anything with RF on it. It is just so sycophantic. my initials aren't RF. why the F am i wearing shoes with RF on them??? It's vomit inducing already to see Federer coming out on wimbledon courts in cashmere cardigans and suits in gold-encrusted crests. (yes, i get the business side. please don't teach me business).

why can't Nike leave the RF to just Federer. Why do they h ave to ruin perfectly good shoes with that stupid logo?
