Shame Kei waited until the last game to play like he did against Novak. Great stuff by the Maestro.

A little bit too late for Nishikori.

All in all a cute spankage from Federer. Love to see him win Paris next weak, seems like he's the only in-form player on circuit atm!

The nothing-to-lose moment LOL. Maybe he should have realized that WAS the situation from the beginning when his opponent is Federer. A lot of aggressive DTL shots there.

Solid match from the GOAT. Given the health of the rest of the top 4, this may finally be his year at Bercy.

Aaaaaw all the ballboys/girls get presented medals by Federer, what a nice touch for the kids and a great momento for them to keep.

Great win Federer. Classy as usual, it's very nice to see he genuinely still loves the game. Basel always means so much to him, especially this year since it is his 68th title overall, 5th time he wins Basel, and it was the tournament that always gave him confidence before the WTFs and TMCs. Hope to see him play like this in Bercy and WTFs and hopefully win.

Wow, how awesome to see Federer win yet another title against some random lucky loser when Nadal and Djokovic don't play.

Bar the many missed bp chances in the second, was an amazing performance, number 5 for Fed in Basel and 68th title overall:), great to see the emotion at the end, Basel is always very special to Roger, it'll give him a lot of confidence that he's finally picked up another title after quite a long wait, expect him to be at his best come Paris and WTF's

Basel is definitely worthy of being a Masters event, certainly one of my favourite tournaments to watch, not just because of the obvious reasons of Fed winning so much there, looks like a great run event, great crowds, always pack out, one of the nicest trophies i have ever seen and always gets a great turn out by the best players, even if a lot were knocked out or injured as the week progressed this year, and the court is a nice speed to see more variety

Lol i have actually yet to watch the match, i presume he was in that 3rd set, and heard his serve was underjuiced throughout, with the shoulder and what not but in the first set and most of the second he seemed to be hitting to ball well off the ground from highlights but obviously highlights don't tell the full story of the match, but you gotta give full credit to Kei for sticking in a battling like he did to take that second set and go on to win.

He lead 5-2 in the first set when he took MTO for his shoulder as he had serving problems, from that point onwards it was going from bad to worse..

Hilarious to think that out of all guys Monfils (lopsided h2h) is the only one that beat him indoors since Basel last year.

Good to see Fed get one more title for the year. Maybe start another fall/autumn run like 2010, but go into Aus 2012...
One thing though, I would have liked to see less use of the slice return and slices in general in this tournament, and see him just hit top spin backhands. It worked well against the opponents this week, but the top 10 players especially joker and nadal eat up those slices quite often...

That's a disproportionately awesome trophy. I'd say it's the second best trophy in tennis behind Wimbledon.

Kei Nishikori was the perfect guest, taking out the guy who could have crashed the party (Djoker) and then made way for the host! :). Too nice...
