Could be a classic like in ny 2008.
Could be a classic. You're right.
Thrilled to see Nishikori doing well, but he has time.
Can't root against Ferru.
I thought Bagdahtis - Ferrer was going to be great. I'm skeptical.
Nishikori does most things better then baggy and he is fit enough to go 5 in the heat with Ferrer, baggy isnt. Im not sure but i think Nishikori leads the hth.
Yeah, Nishikori beat Ferrer in 2008 US Open as a teenager.
If he didn't have that nagging knee injury, Kei could have been much better player by now...
This is the official thread, so keep it in here fellas.
Kei to take out the trash in 4
I'm taking KNish in a long, high-quality 5-setter. Could be the match of the tourney!
Errors, Ferru, d*mmit
Unless Nishikori has a brain cramp. Otherwise, this is going to be pretty.
What is your damage?
It was great. Ferru played some beautiful points, and Baghy is usually very tough to beat, and a Melbourne favorite to boot.
It was just short, that's all.
Wow, Nishikori has the most visible straps and tapes on his body than anyone else in the tournament.
Right wrist, left knee, right ankle. Who knows how much more is underneath his clothes?
Indeed my brother. This could really announce his arrival.
Nishikori has already begun the match very impressively. That jumping backhand is reminiscent of Nalbandian.
Not even close.
Even if someone wins in 3, it's gonna be a long match.
Wow. What's up with the line-calling?
Agreed. 8 minutes for the first game.
I think Ferrer wins, but this is far more realistic than Kei "taking out the trash".
And the shotmaking is awesome from both guys!
What do you mean? Isn't this the Australian Open standard? Seems well within the norm for me.
Wow. Amazing rally.
Nishikori, en fuego.
Seems like he has more pop on the 1st serve and don't remember him having the nice biting slice BH.
Loving Kei's game right now! Tremendous aggression!
Come on Echizen, you can do it!!!
Nishikori has some of the cleanest groundies on tour.
And if it's true that Nishikori can only go just under three hours, he's toast.
Ferrer's warmups probably last that long.
Yeah but he's apparently playing on a "2:47" hours limit, hahaha. Every once in a while, tennis commentators can be funny.
Wow kei is so fun to watch. Lots of creativity and strategy.
Guy can really smack it
Yeah because he's working on a 2:47 hours limit, he has to smack it.
If Ferrer discovers that, he'll make sure the first set lasts that long.
BG was being semi-serious. And probably forgot last yr's 5 setter where KN outlasted Tsonga. KN gets injured quite a bit - not the same as inadequate fitness.
Maybe he'll start a conversation with Brad Gilbert on the sideline?
Ferrer: "Hey, how fit is this guy?"
Ferrer: "I'll channel my inner Giles Simon."
Ferrer: PFFT! I've had longer stretching routines.
Love Nishi's shot variety.
Umps busy 4 overrules already only 3 games in.
Awesome FH by Kei!
Ha! This set might go 2:47.
At this pace, Djokovic - Wawrinka will take the court at 1AM.
Kei has the talent, but Ferrer's gonna grind him down. It's only the freakin 4th game.
Ferrer being Ferrer.
Don't worry, Nishikori has the next 2 hours to win 3 sets.
Nishi's already looking fatigued.
Great pt. Ferrer made him earn it with the BH volley - no give up in DF.
If Slams were best of 9 sets. Would Ferrer been the GOAT? Lol.
You are seeing why there is top 5....and everyone else.
More cool pts in this match than the previous Betty match.
Ferrer is getting to net more.
Nish just missed an easy FH.
