No, they out-weapon him. Same fitness with more weapons.

But they're on drugs and ferrer smokes cigars.

Seriously he can stay with them despite having to cover more court.

He was sharp - until he blew all the break pts in the 1st two Ferrer serve games. Then he got broken and started looking defeated.

He looks so tired out there already. Commentators are wrong quite often but, in this case they are right on about kei's game. He needs to play more defense and get fitter. the fatigue is really affecting the way he plays.

If he improves his stamina sky's the limit.

Wow. This had such a hopeful start.

Whoever said a few pages back 'this is the separator between the top 5 and the rest' really nailed it.

I wonder if it's very very hot again there today.

I'm also wondering if he slipped when going for that shot late at the end of the first set, and since Nishi was already nursing an injury ...

Miserable performance from Nish. Fitness, the knee, and/or the knowledge that Ferrer is content to rally all day in scorching heat...
I think it's a combination of all three.

Hitting flat and finding the net everytime he hits anywhere but over the center of the net.

It doesn't look great, but if he's risking further injury to the knee ...

David Ferrer is the Rocky Marciano of the tour. Not the least bit pretty...just punches you and punches you till you say uncle.

I think he has elegant form too.

I mean, not as elegant as Juanquí, but nobody is (except Roger).

I mean, love-40 to deuce just now ...?

Hey, I'm a Ferrer fan, but I'm honest. His game is a solid but unspectacular everything, sick return game, and beat you to death.

    It works though.

Yeah, we should have a telethon. Of course they should have known. It's still the WTA.

    Break, Nishikori. Woo!

In fairness, pretty much anyone and everyone on the tour has been called a "future #1" by commentators at some point in time.

knee is busted. i think the ankle brace is just precautionary. He'll fight as long s he's on the court.

expect some good points from him regardless of the outcome.

I'm thrilled he got the chance to be seeded 4th. I feel like he's trying to make the absolute most of it.
Unhappy it was at Rafa's expense, but what can you do ...?
