No Americans in Monte Carlo Masters 2010??

American Tennis players have been very poor in clay courts. Every year I get to hear American commentators complaining about how many American still alive in draw especially in FO...

How come no American Players in Monte Carlo Masters 1000?? It is Masters 1000 event and shouldnt they play at least for their own sake and trying to get ready for FO? Or they just dont wanna get humiliated just because they are not naturally good at it??

This is pretty normal. No Americans were in the singles draw last year either if i remember. And in '08 I think it was just Sam Querrey.

What I don't understand is why would anyone not want to go to Monte Carlo??
Even if the American players lose early, they have a nice country club to practise at.

exactly. Thats my point. Plus they have chance to practice in clay courts and who knows they can play better at ROME and Madrid.

Querray and Isner need to play for clay courts more often. They were pretty good when they play against Serbia few months ago.

The main reasons is those americans players are too lazy to travels this far and they know they will lose early...We should fine them.

Most of the Americans play the American HC season inbetween the AO and Indian Wells. Most of the Europeans don't. Thus, they skip MC and some of them skip Rome. Not really a big deal.

Oh **** something that makes sense...RUNNNNNNNNNN!!!!

Why don't more of the Europeans play the early summer American HC events (DC, Indy/Atl, LA)? Heck Fed and Nadal and some others still only play Canada and Cincy during the US Summer HC swing.

Sam and John just played last week in the U.S. Claycourt Championships in Houston.

Sam was a finalist.
Did you miss it?

Because 8 weeks of clay and 4 weeks of grass is a long time to be away from home, when the US hardcourt season is right after grass. So, scheduling dictates that they cut a few weeks out and they usually do it the first few weeks of clay court season (when they might not do so well anyway).

thank you for writing that reply for me... i can only add that is also the same reason the euros skip the first few tournaments of the USOS...

Roddick I can see. His ranking is positioned as good as it is going to get for Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Being ranked 5 thru 8 puts him playing one of the "big 4" (i use that term loosely though) in the semis.

For Querry, Isner, and perhaps Blake...I think it's a poor move. It's a 1000 level tournament.

I think this is the case with a lot of American players. By staying in the States a few more weeks after Miami, they are reducing the number of consecutive weeks they have to spend in Europe during the clay/grass season, which is probably a big deal to them. Also, there isn't really a legit American clay court contender at this point. It's not like Americans have never gone to Monte Carlo. If there was an American who was a top-level clay court player, he'd probably be more likely to go over earlier.

Blake is injured.

fair enough.

Sam and John have no excuse though. Sam is on the cusp of breaking into the top 20, and John in the top 15. He's got a real shot at top 10.

You never know. A 3rd round result at Monte Carlo might help in the case of a shock loss at a hard court even you were banking on going deep at.

I think people on this forum put more emphasis on rankings than the players do. The players have to mange their schedule to keep injuries down, motivation up, and control their travel costs. They are not really thinking that if I play this week, I get a few points so I move up 2 spots.

Most players are not like Davydenko and the other Russians that feel they have to play every week. Roddick appears to be concentrating on the tournaments he can do well and skipping ones where he may have to really struggle to make the round of 16. Also he is not getting younger so he is controlling his schedule like Federer is doing. As for the other players, it can get expensive to spend that much time away from home and not get results.

most Europeans don't need a month or 2 or 3 to do well on hard courts unlike Americans who might need a lifetime to do well on clay so it's ok.he likes of Roddick;Querrey;Isner and the rest of the bunch aren't huge in Europe so their not missed

Blake injured his right knee and is doubtful for Paris. He supposedly needs up to 6 to 8 weeks of "rest".Me thinks he is saving himself the annual FIRST loss embarrassment in Paris and London

Go f yourself a$clown. Seriously you never say anything good about any players, just come in and spew your usual garbage about how "X player should retire because he sucks". Seriously. Check his post history if you don't believe me. Worthless troll.

Oh MY. Like, why skip clay events where you've proven you could've reached the finals, Roddick? Like, you're a fat, beer belly ******. Retire please, you shallow, spoiled stinker.

Go f$$k yourself. You're the most worthless poster on here. I hope the mods get a clue and ban you, though that isn't very likely to happen..

And in breaking news, tintin hates Roddick and devila cracks wise about him being fat.

New and exciting, folks.
