I'm fairly highly ranked outside of school. I'm approximately a 5.0--I consistently beat 4.5s, and I often both beat and lose to 5.0s. Most varsity kids in the Chicago area are about 4.5s, though.

1 question. I am not saying you do this. but why does HS kids cheat so much on the linecalls ? are they just being kids ?

I agree with this. Whenever I play, there are at least 3 complete bs calls. I can tell that they know they are cheating too...

Maybe pressure put on them by their coach? Not enough emphasis on tennis being a 'gentleman's sport' nowadays? I'm not sure what they cause is, but the effect is simply sad.

it really matter what school. i think the richer or better the school the less "jewing" of lines will take place this is true in my experience at least :)

I don't know, but as a high school player I see it a lot and it's really sad. Tennis is one of the sports, in high school, that is player-officiated. When you don't have officials to make calls, such as basketball and football and baseball and volleyball, you WILL get people who will bend the rules to their advantage and try to get an unfair advantage; it's human nature and sometimes there isn't anything we can do about it.

We can tell our coaches, but ultimately, it falls to the players themselves to be honorable and respect their opponent. And I know how it feels to be on the end of it; very frequently do I play people who calls aces that clip the line out or call my deep lobs out, etc., and although I'm in no way a perfect judge (I don't make bad calls on purpose, but more than likely I've missed a couple calls in my life), it's sad when people would rather cheat than win the right way and be able to hold their heads high; I couldn't live with myself if I had to cheat to win and I'd rather lose. However, my spot on the team is pretty much solidified, and maybe for other people they're competing to move up and need to impress their coaches with a "win", but it's still no excuse and a discredit to our great game.

Tl;dr: Anytime someone can cheat, there will be cheaters. It's human nature. Just go out and beat em anyways ;)
