I´m not saying it´s going to happen but I wouldn´t be surprised if Nadal´s streak on clay ends this weekend. It´s going to be really tough for him to defend his title in Barcelona, mainly because of the physical factor. Even for Nadal it´s going to be really tough after he decided to keep playing doubles this week. Take a look at his matches in the last 10 days: MONTECARLO Wednesday: Chela Thursday: Vliegen Friday: Kohlschreiber Saturday: Berdych Sunday: Federer BARCELONA Tuesday: Doubles match vs Ferrer/Vicente Wednesday: Vliegen Thursday: Johansson & Doubles match vs Knowle/Kohlmann Friday: Starace & Doubles match vs Knowles/Nestor Saturday: Ferrer & Doubles match vs Erlich/Ram If he wins both matches on Saturday, the doubles final on Sunday is scheduled before the singles final. Not sure if the order of play could be changed if Nadal reaches both finals. Anyway Nadal has played 11 matches in the last 10 days. It´s gonna be 13 matches in 11 days after tomorrow. Also, Ferrer and Cañas (if he reaches the final) are good and consistent players with a great physique and they could take benefit from Nadal´s overloaded schedule. I´m not saying it´s going to happen because Nadal is really tough to beat on clay but I can´t imagine a better chance for someone to beat him on clay. If Nadal wins this his physique is definitely out of this world. I can´t understand why he is playing doubles in back to back tournaments, I think it´s a really bad idea.
