Haha you're being ridiculous. You know what you're right!! That ball was in and Stan won the game. To go 5-4. But then what would've happened is Nole would've gone in beast mode earlier and won the next 3 games to win 7-5. So yeah the result wasnt what the actual result was.
Novak actually won the last set 7-5. That one bad call resulted in delaying Nole arriving on court. DAMN you Stan for not challenging.

It's 6-4 in the last set, actually. But sure, whatever makes you sleep better. Be happy and celebrate that the call was wrong, because that won Djokovic the match.

Right. Too bad Djokovic could only do that in your lala-land and not in reality, where Wawrinka won 6-4.

But even if Stan challenged, they would have replayed the point and Djoker gets a first serve so who knows what would have happened. My point is that out call SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN MADE!! The ball was smack right on the line, not a sliver of the ball, but most of the ball was on the line! The linespeople at the Aus Open are all blind!! They make so many bad calls it's ridiculous!

Lmao I'm in lala land when you're the one claiming that what the result was wasn't the actual result. Clearly you're just trolling now so I don't know what I'm wasting my time for.

I think you're confused about what facts are. The FACT is Novak won. And here's another one, you cannot be SURE about what would've happened if the ball hadn't been called out, you can predict it but you cannot be sure. Maybe in your "lala land" you can but in real life, you do NOT know what would've happened. That is a fact. I predict that had that rally continued Novak would've won even quicker and you predict that Stan would have won. These are not facts. I hope I've explained this all in a way that you will actually be able to comprehend :)

Can I just say that I KNEW that Stan had the chance to complete the upset prior to the start of the match. I know that you can think I'm talking bull now that the match has finished long time ago. But when I just saw the match up, I just thought 'this is it, if anything would see Djokovic losing this would be it'.

As a big Novak fan, I am thrilled that he won that match. He is truly building a great legacy, with monumental matches. Having said that, it takes two players to put on an epic.

Stan was just majestic throughout that encounter. His sublime play at times made him look like a multi slam winner and world number one. A sensational performance that reminded me of one of my fav matches of all time, Nadal V Verdasco 09.

Stan stayed with Novak throughout, and pushed the defending champion to the brink, just as Murray and Nadal did last year. Novak, a true champion managed to fight his way to a win. A great display of heart and passion, from both players. And as Novak said, they both deserved to win that match, but there can only be one.

I am glad that Novak is alive, and I hope he gets enough rest and is ready for the upcoming challenges. :)

you guys really know how to suck the joy out of sport. we understood your respective positions on the line-call, result of the match and which of the player you admire about 35 pages ago.

yet you keep repeating yourselves drowning out any intelligent commentary or other posters sharing their views or asking questions. is there no end to your solipsism and self-centredness?

Ok I 'm a big fan of Djokovic, but I'm pretty gutted for Stan and actually a bit dissapointed. I didn't even see the match til the 4th set because I had a late night and expected the match to be over in a maximum of 4 sets and I couldn't be bothered getting upearly to see if it was on. Then had to go out so watched it on my phone in a pub.

But from what I saw and watching it back at home later, Stan played better and pretty much deserved to win the match. If that out call didn't get made in the 5th set at 4-4 maybe he wins that point, on a replay maybe he wins... he didn't get that bit of luck you need. Not only that but overall he showed massive heart and at times Djokovic seemed to just be hanging on.

Getting a little bit sick of the top player always pulling through in these cases. I mean I like Novak, I'm glad he's through but I want him to win because he deserves to win matches, because he plays the amazing tennis. But when the other guy plays the better tennis (I feel) then Djokovic winning feels like a bit of a hollow victory. I'm not saying Djokovic didn't dig deep and take the match, he did and congrats on doing it yet again and saving God knows how many virtual match points, but it's getting a bit wearing to see the top guys always win even when the other guy is playing lights out tennis.

The Nadal vs Rosol match was the only upset in recent times, and that shook things up a lot, If Djokovic had lost this match it would have been a big shake up instead of the same old story (though it would be an unbalanced draw)

I would now prefer either Federer to win this, or would be nice if it wasn't one of the top 4 and if so I would love to see Tsonga, Gasquet or even Raonic win. But realistically it'll be Djokovic, Murray or Federer. Djokovic should be out at this point leaving Federer and Murray as favourites. Question is now is if Berdych can run him close and then Ferrer gives him a tough match, will the stresses of 4 hard matches in a row begin to tell?

Thanks Gonzo. Oh some trolls were insulting me and when I did it back, banned for "fighting"! Oh well have to laugh

Also have to say that Stan in his interview took the loss very well and Djokovic gave him a lot of compliments. Nice to see their mutual respect at the end of the match.

Match of the tournament so far.

Djok has been coming off his high for a while (hard not to). Stan has been in the past #9, he appears to be headed back up (I think he had some domestic troubles after the baby arrived, now I understand he is back with his wife?) Today's match seems in keeping with what has been happening, regardless, in the long run, of a point or two today. And if I'm right look for Stan to do very well in the clay season.

I wouldn't say NadalAgassi posts ban worthy stuff. But other people get away with loads. Actually he did insult me a few times, so you're right. As I got banned for "fighting" I would assume so did one of the other people.. but probably not, even though I was just responding in kind. I did imply they were an idiot and had no brain, but they were pretty insulting saying i had brain damage (hence my comment about them having no brain to damage)

Oh well i shouldn't bother with some people.

I went to bed after that utter choke in the second by Wawrinka. That was truly pathetic how he fell apart from 6-1 5-2 up. I am shocked he managed to regroup and make it so close in the end.

Good on him for playing a great match. And good for Djokovic to eke out another close one.

However, the cowardice of the underdogs against the big 4 is unbelievable! Makes Rosol's performance against Nadal even more impressive. He was actually tough as nails, whereas most of these other guys don't have the belief. Wishing for some more surprises in tennis, because its getting too predictable.

Really? Everyone uses the term **** though. That seems very unfair on you cos everyone would be banned by that rule. And yeah NadalAgassi does call people idiots and stuff and I'm pretty sure I only do that if someone has called me it first, yet I got banned. Probably cos someone can't take what they dish out and reported it.

Anyway, be careful with your posting haha.

I don't get how the banning works over here. Over the last month or so I have unleashed some harsh insults towards some of the ones I got beef with, and frankly it was probably ban worthy, but maybe cause it was directed at clearly biased, trolling fools it's been forgiven. I get easily riled up though, so people like kik, Thundervolley, Terrastar, 90's clay can easily get under my skin posting blasphemy material.

The thing which strikes me as counter-productive with Wawrinka - and it showed in this match - is he often shifts to hit backhands off balls which are coming straight at him. I know he is more comfortable hitting them but he should be hitting forehands. I don't think I've ever seen someone move around their forehand to hit a backhand before.

No matter how comfortable he is hitting backhands you simply can't get the mixture of power and torque, or disguise that you can when hitting a forehand - plus, because most of his shots went back towards his opponent's backhand side he was 2m further to the right of the court and further out of position for the most likely return shot from his opponent - the crosscourt. He bungled a number of rallys yesterday doing this - a couple on very key points too. It seems more habit than deliberate and doesn't usually serve him well.

He is weird with that. The funny thing is Stan has a powerful crosscourt forehand that wins him tons of points when he goes to it.

oh cheers for asking mate, yeah I really loved the venue, a real shame about it closing down :( Glag I got to play there though.

Gig went alright, had some technical issues though and I was bleeding knackered so I wasn't as on it as the other gigs but still a top night. Had a good sound man, friendly people running the place, great crowd. Had a great time up in Scotland.

+1. I woke up early and started watching at 430AM Pacific time off the DVR. It was time to go play after the 2nd set. Like you I expected Stan to lay down. When I drove to the courts I decided to pull out my iPhone and check the score. Couldn't believe it. Got home after my tennis and watched the last 3. Epic.

So much for theory that the only good matches involved the top 4...
