Let's say you received a hot stock tip and made $50K in a few days. Would you consider spending $4K for a tennis racquet? If the money was essentially free and you could do whatever you wanted to with it. Sure, you could put it in the bank or buy a bunch of Platinum Eagles or go on a nice vacation but you could just buy a tennis racquet too.

You're in luck guys, I won Nole's racquet.  I know it's kinda expensive, but relatively speaking, I paid way less for it than my Rafa stick and certainly my Roger sticks.  The only difference is that this is the first time I paid such an amount for a non charity item, but it was really just too good to pass up - it being a used Wimbledon final racquet by the hottest player on the tour and new no. 1.  I really don't wanna pass judgement on the guy who sold the racquet, to me he was a fortunate recipient of a very special piece of tennis memorabilia and he chose to sell it, alot of other people would have done exactly the same thing.  He doesn't owe anyone the specs of the racquet just because he got the racquet, in fact, if you look at it another way, he should be thanked for selling it and making it available to fans like myself who would then post it on TW (more often such racquets disappear into someone's home never to be seen again). And to be fair to the guy, he is a very decent chap, I actually made him a much higher offer before the auction ended but he declined as he preferred to see through the auction. He could easily have asked someone to drive up the price knowing how high I was willing to go but he didn't. If it sounds like i am defending him, it's because I think he has taken a lot of unfair criticisms in this thread.

For those wondering how I managed to bid when I'm not from the UK, he gave me special rights to bid after I contacted him, I suppose a good feedback score helps.  And finally, on the question of whether the racquet is legit, it seems like the real deal to me based on the pics and what he has told me. Sure, there is a chance it might not be real or not used during the Wimbledon final, but it was a risk I was willing to take, hopefully Ron will be able to verify its authenticity when I post the pics since it was strung by P1.  That just about covers everything I think, I'm really not interested in the debate on whether it's too much to pay for a racquet, if some of you think so, so be it.  I'm more pumped about receiving the racquet and posting close-up pics and some useful info, hopefully it will arrive  end of the week, I will try to get the new thread up quickly once i get my hands on the racquet :)

Yeah I agree. But I guess Novak threw four raquets into the crowd. 1 out of 4 probably wasn't a diehard fan.

Fabfed, I hope it turns out to be the genuine article.

4K seems like a lot for a racket but it is your money and something is ultimately worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Have you ever totaled up what your have spent on tennis collectibles?
How much do you have invested in your collection approximately? Just curious.

Will be interested to see the specs (including flex if you have the means to test flex.)

Would you like to buy a nice 4000 sq foot house in the USA? :)

The smashed one has no value now that a TW poster has the functional one. BTW, there's a Cilic racquet for sale on strings forum. No price listed but I'd guess around $500. Its a tgk231.3 -
    probably stiffer than I'd like.

It's funny how this thread went from harshly criticizing the greed and selfishness anyone who would dare sell or buy a racquet at $4000 to congratulating and praising the buyer once he came out.

I have the TGK260.2 which are the 16x19 YT Radical MP, used by Berdych (and Tomic).
The 231.3 is the MG Radical MP, 16x19, so I wonder how they compare.

The 260.2 is fairly soft, I'd say in the upper 50's.

I think that the criticism of a buyer is that it's a dumb way to spend $4,000. As a prospective buyer, I disagree. I do think that the seller could have handled it better but it's his frame and he can sell it as he pleases.

I watched a warmup session with Cilic this morning and there was a comment in the link that Cilic's racquet had more of a snap to it when it hit the ball which I associate with a stiffer racquet or stringbed. I haven't seen 231.3s or 260.2s come up for sale so these sound like they are hard to come by. It sounds like you have some nice frames.

I have a 238.4 coming in this morning and another one coming in, probably tomorrow or Wednesday but it's without pallets and grip which I need to order. I'm going to try to standardize on the 238.4 at this time. I'd be more inclined to get the 231.3 if it's soft and if the swingweight is under 350. Some of those guys play with insane swingweights.

You're out of luck - an RDC machine is required in order to discover everything consequential but that won't happen, the racquet may get damaged in the process.

Thanks guys, looking forward to posting the pics :)

Haha, just an ordinary room, they are only valuable to tennis fans

Sure Rhino, I will take you up on that once I set it up :)

Click on seller info, select contact member, Under select topic click on other, Click on continue, and Voila, you can message the seller

Haven't really totaled up, don't wanna scare myself. I've slowed down my collection actually, but couldn't resist this purchase..not sure how to test flex, may not be able to get all the specs but I'll try my best. Sure Ill take the house if it's in the neighbourhood of the price of the racquet :)

Not really, it's pennies for the guy who splashed out US$10K on Roger's 2009 FO custom shoes on the Federer website or the guy who bought Roger's BLX90 for US$25K at the Hit for Haiti auction during the 2010 AO (and it wasn't even used in the final). It's still a lot of money to me but I don't really spend on other stuff so it's ok I guess.

Yes we've been thru this, I've asked around countless times for an RDC machine but there just isn't one in the tiny little country I'm from. Doesn't it count for anything that I've taken tons of close-up pics of the racquets of Roger and Rafa, so you can examine the frame, throat, buttcap, strings, knots etc and also weighed them and balanced them with pics as proof (and not just my word). Seriously, who has done that on these boards with the racquets of 2 of the greatest players of all time. There are just some things I don't want to do, and that includes lifting the bumper guard to check for lead tape, removing the overgrip, or removing the buttcap. But here's a suggestion, if my threads are not consequential or meaningful enough, then you really shouldn't read them and suffer the disappointment and frustration, and just keep to watching and rooting for Verdasco, no letdown there.

I beg to differ, it's all speculation of course however I would guess every pro exclusive item you have under your roof would add up to more than both figures put together that you've mentioned in the post above. Either way, we agree that the price relative to a racquet is excessive no matter how wealthy an individual is.

As I remember, you refused to put it on an RDC machine because of your slightly daft reasoning that it could be damaged. I don't ever recall you saying there wasn't one around where you live, so that remains a mystery. In any case I was just poking fun there while at the same time reminding people to be realistic in what they are to expect from you. I couldn't care either way RDC or no RDC but I reiterate your reasoning at the time was poor and reaction more importantly was childish, immature and insecure.

I'm not sure what your intentions are, but to me it seems as though you are looking for some sort of sympathy by listing out your contributions here as if I made a distinct point criticising that (which I certainly didn't in that particular post you quoted). in fact, I do think what you've done deserves credit however you've lost my respect after your outburst in response to something so minor as someone requesting specific specs about a racquet. I'd suggest that you get off your high horse and move away from this mentality that everyone should treat you like a king and if there is a slight conflict refrain from acting like a baby to achieve compassion from others to make you feel better.

Great job on acquiring one of the most mysterious racket spec wise, certainly it is worth it every penny if you think so, and only matters what you think.

You are actually doing a big favor to many who were always curious about Djoker's racket and could never find out what they were.

I also agree, if somebody doesn't like your threads they should not read nor comment.

Maybe because you don't have a Fiasco's racket He is getting mad at you :)

I seriously have to disagree here.

Can a rdc machine damage a racket? - In 99% cases it cannot.

Would you spend 4k of your hard earned money on a pro stick and then walk around with it and search for a rdc machine all over your country? - I for myself wouldnt.
You drive in your car, have an accident, and boom, racket is damaged. The person who measures it can drop it, etc. all sort of unpredicted things can happen.
Sure, some people might take that risk, but I for myself wouldnt walk around with something I just paid 4k for.

Call me selfish, but I especially wouldnt risk such things, just because a bunch of strangers on the internet keep asking me to do so.

In fact if I owned one of those sticks I'd probably only dare to touch it with gloves, put it in a glass case and keep it there for the rest of my life.
I know some people think such a behaviour is silly, and would go out and hit with a pro stick, but its called collector item for a reason.

    All thumbs up Fabfed.

If you're afraid of damaging it, then you could just weigh it to confirm one of the generally "known" stats on his frames. I think that TW University shows a way to identify swingweight by swishing it through the air a few times. You could just compare it to other frames too.

I'd like to know if it's an extender racquet too.

Wow....spoken with such stoicism, I almost wanted to applaud. Yes, I did say that i thought putting it on an RDC machine might damage it, that was ignorance on my part, and i did explain that i have never come across one and
it is purely the thought of someone handling a racquet (on a machine) that i have a spent a small fortune on that makes me uncomfortable. No need to mock me over that episode. I do admit my reactions at that time could have been better, the key would have been to simply ignore the incessant demands for specs like swing weight, but I was pretty new to the forum then and got pretty mad with the mentality that I owed everyone the full specs just because I was in possession of the racquets. If you recall (but you probably don't since you also do not know that I had mentioned there is no RDC where I'm from) I
apologized for my reactions when I returned to the forum, as I eventually
realized there are more dignified ways to deal with the likes of you. Looking for sympathy or expecting to be treated like royalty? Far from it, I'm just a TW member who's happy to share info and pics on my tennis collection but just asks for the understanding that there are certain things I won't do with my collection. And your point about getting off my high horse, you would do well to take your own advice, just see posts #2 and #4 of this thread,
