This just shows how much tennis grew as a sport, and how great seasons Novak had over the past two years.

    In 2011 he won 12,619,803$

And in 2012 he won $9,953,737 + 2 000 000 that he'll get next week for finishing as world No1, + 500 000 from US open series bonus prize money, which for some reason they didn't count this year in the official prize money, and all previous years they did = 12 453 737$

So Novak won in only two years 25,073,540$

Andy Roddick won 20 mil$ in 11 years of his pro career!

That's half of Nadals entire 11 year career prize money!

that's no big deal, the prize money increases every year. 20-30 years from now major winners will receive 5 grand for a major.

The money he received says nothing about his playing level.

For two years Djokovic won 40% ot the Majors, that Nadal has won in his entire career (+ WTF and the Winner of the US series).

That, the insane amount of M1000 tournaments, that he won last year and the slight increase of the prize money overall result in so much winnings.

So prize money is declining pretty significantly then, currently first round losers make several times that, good to be a player now versus 20-30 years then.

Smoledman is not a Fed fan, quite the opposite actually.

Well they wouldn't pay them this much if they didn't get a return on investment but yeah all those whining about too long of a season, tough schedule etc. does seem somewhat laughable given the money they get for playing a game.

ffs... i would give my left nut to have the chance to play tennis all day and make 1\4 of what Novak makes (and i was lucky enough to get higher eucation and i do make a good living by my country standards).

but then we have morons that idolize these guys to the point where they have no flaws and must have their filthy greed ideas defended in a tennis forum by john does!!!!!!!

And he probably makes more in off court money. Prize money is only the tip of the iceberg these days.

Of course, and the guys paying them huge sums make tons of money off their backs as well. I remember lots of people moaning when Beckam went to Real Madrid for a huge sum of money but the club got the money back within a year or so just by selling overpriced Beckam football shirts.

The guys that can afford to pay the big 4 huge sums of money do so only because they get those figures back times x(at least in most cases).

Sure, we can talk about the ethics of a sportsman(that does nothing but entertain you) making a gazillion times more than scientists that try to cure cancer but then again, I doubt that there was a time in recent history when scientists had more perks than famous sportsmen.

I agree namelessone. Not many philanthropists in today's business world. They're in it for profit. And it must be pretty juicy if the top players are worth so much.

Stars get paid a lot, whether they deserve it or not is a matter of opinion. Tennis is not only sport but an entertainment business. A couple of years ago a pseudo singer called Mariah Carey was paid 100 million by Sony just to get rid of her. Whitney was rumored to get 10 million to sing for 45 minutes etc. Those are insane amounts. Fed and Nadal gets the big bucks for exhibition matches...

Political analysts, social workers, engineers, scientists, doctors etc are underpaid but hey, at least we have diplomas :(

amazing those guys have a drive to keep going.

If you gave me 10 million, the last thing i would do is go work out more and try to get better.

I'd head to the beach and live out my remaining years fishing, drinking, and porking hot chicks.
