Played a singles match last night where I saved a total of 9 match points:

    3rd set, serving at 4-5, 0-40 (3 mp's)
    Serving at 5-6, 15-40 (2 more mp's)
Serving at 2-6 in 3rd set TB (1 mp)
Opponent serving up 6-3 in TB (2 mp's)
Serving 5-6 in TB (1 final mp)

I ended up winning the TB 9-7.

I think that's a record for me, in terms of match points saved. On the flip side, I think the most mp's I've blown to lose a match is 4.

How about you - most mp's saved / blown?

I think I've saved 8 or 9 match points in a match but still ended up losing.

    4-5.

    Ended up winning.

Turns out I was playing in a weak era though so the win didn't count.

Most I can remember is coming back from 3-9 in a 10pt tiebreaker.

I've saved 11 and still lost :p. I've also saved 3 and ended up winning the match in 3 (as well as the tourny later on). Was pretty crazy being down a set and 5-3 40-0 and coming back to win. Just shows how valuable momentum is in tennis.

That's brutal. Did the TT historians give you the bad news over the phone or by mail delivered by a horse drawn carriage?

The most I've ever saved was five. Four of them were service return winners.

I was down 2-9 in a 10 point tiebreak for a ladder match this summer and came back and won it 11-9. I had previously been down 3-6 in the 2nd set tiebreak in that match and won it 8-6. I think that is 9 match points saved in that match if I'm doing the math right.

However in a league match last fall my partner and I were up 5-0 in the second set after winning the first and ended up losing it in a tiebreak (ouch!) where I bet we had and lost at least 10 match points during the games and the tiebreak. Of course we jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the 10-point tiebreak and ended up losing that too without winning another point. Double ouch.

I saved 8 in a championship match a few years back in August(hot as hell).lol I was cramping. My calve caved in. The guy was a lefty...So at the beginning I learned that anytime I hit to his backhand and came to net...he would lob. He had this Nadal like grip on his forehand. So when the match got into the 3rd set and he was serving 5-3 in the third, I played his forehand and would walk into the net every stroke until I got close enough to volley away. I did this on 8 match points. I ended up breaking him and winning the match 7-5 in the third. after the match...a guy asked me did I ever notice he was left handed...after I said yes...he asked why did I keep hitting to his forehand...and I politely told him because he never lobbed with his forehand. If he had hit one lob to the service line while I was in at the net it would have been game set match. Sometimes there is much more going on on the court than you realize.lol Well that's my favorite match points saved story.lol
