I took a bath at 4-1. It's now 4-4. Petra brain fart coming up or has Vera upped her game?

WTF is with Kvitova's shrieks whenever she wins an important point? Sounds like a damn dog barking:confused:

Kvitova's been doing that for a couple of years. It's a kind of bark, but she says "C'mon" in Czech. ARF!

  14. I think Radwanska has a good shot.
The winner will either be the player that hits more winners or moon balls the best.
I watched Agniezska play Petkovic in Beijing and she was ripping her forehand, so if she can keep that up . . I think she could have Woz' where she wants her.

  16. The commentators mentioned this. I agree, though, iSTANBUL is a better location. I think it's more vibrant and much more accessible to the European market.

Radwanska looks like she'll revert to being Woz's loyal puppet once more. Waiting for the eventual 3rd set.

Wow, seems like the pace has picked up since the break at 4-2 here, even Wozzy is hitting some winners with ease.

    Hopefully both will finish strong.

its funny to see that they miss easy overheads. sometimes they just have to bring the ball in the field but they hit it out/in the net xD

I think the fact that this tournament is indoor is going to hurt Wozniacki's chances at winning the title. Not that I expected her to win anyway.

Well she made the final last year and actually got a set off of Kim, so I wouldn't say she has no shot at all....however she was playing way better last year as well...

Any player in both groups who has won a end of year championships before? Sharapova, maybe (probably)?

Is Wozzy still chasing her first title at this tournament too? If so, that could be a significant title added to her career apart from the GS's.

  34. Wozniacki bt. Radwanska 5-7 6-2 6-4

Radwanska was just a little bit too sloppy at times, but kudos to her for actually trying to hit winners.
Wozniacki . . well, she was Wozniacki. She just pushed the ball back and hit a couple of winners.
Kvitova should DESTROY her and I wouldn't be surprised if Zvonareva beats her (as long as she plays a bit better than today).

    Sharapova won in 2004.

Other then that, Woz was in the finals last year, Zvonareva made the finals in 2008.

    Go Saaaaaaaam!!! :)

Sammy is looking so athetic these days, some very nice gets in her service game and awesome forehand now.

Triple break point Sammy. And break...

And she holds as well. I thought Masha was the favorite coming into this match as the surface suits her better, but so far she's been an error fest. Not counting her out yet, though.

Only 2 matches have been completed and there have already been 23 breaks of serve. I can't find UE counts, but I honestly hope I'm wrong about the 800+ figure. These were supposed to be wild estimates.

going to give the women some credit for once on that for once they actually seem to be pulling their own weight without the men there in terms of bringing in the crowds, and this in Turkey of all places where I thought they would really struggle. Granted the organisers have tried the same stunt as the O2 and have most of the crowd in darkness, but if the first few rows, which are full, are anything to go by then the stadium seems pretty full. Very good effort on the first day of the tournament I'd say

Masha and her heebie-jeebies on serve just allowed the breadstick for Sammy.

Masha is too inconsistent today while Sammy looks focused and doing her own things.

What the hell is going on? Stosur has been Sharapova's rag doll for years and yet she serves Sharapova a breadstick. Sharapova's got that ankle injury, but she's not that good of a mover anyway.

3-0 Masha, seems like the roles have been reversed. Hopefully Stosur can show that she can also run from behind the score and even this set.

Yeah, noticed that too, I thought she only went to the net to shake hands.

Masha riding on a momentum wave right now.

LOL at the dropper attempt... Masha has no touch whatsoever... :)

Great game by Stosur, coming out of a 0-40 against a momentum guided Masha.
If she can put pressure on Masha's serve and earn the break she's back on game.

WONDERFUL forehand half-volley winner from the baseline by Stosur now...
Good girl, 30-40 BP Sammy now... YES, what a point to get the break... just as I wished and predicted. :)

    Sammy serving 2-3 now.

Masha just won a really tight and important game on serve to go up 5-4.

Stosur breaks to go 6-5 and will serve for the match.

And Stosur wins a tight game to close the match in straights. Great display by Sammy.

    Go Saaaaaaammmm!!! :)

Stosur wins 6-1 7-5 for her first victory over Sharapova. Azarenka and Li Na (when she remembers how to play tennis) have both been able to handle Sharapova this year, so the Shrieka likely won't make it out of the RR stage.

Just watched highlights of the other two matches, and I'm pleasantly surprised with the attendance levels in Istanbul. I suppose selling the better seats for ~$10 has a lot to do with that.

I wonder how Azarenka and Li will play tomorrow.

Stosur got that monkey off her back in beating Sharapova. Puts Sharapova in a difficult spot.

Wozniacki still owns Radwanska, even the new and improved version. Not sure if Caro can beat Kvitova and she's 4-4 against Zvonareva. Radwanska looks like she'll get booted.

i would not hang my gloves yet

Agree, Radwanska doesn't have a killer instinct and at times she looks she would prefer to shop vs play. Wozniacki on the other hand she showed a lot of mental toughness, which the next 2 ladies are missing

We shall see how "muffin tops" will handle "baby ball looper"
