If you were a player, which you would rather win? I think that you can't beat a Wimbledon victory, but would you disagree? Is there some slams you would rather win a medal than win the slam, or would you rather have a silver medal even? In honor of the olympics answer below.

This is obviously entirely my own subjective perspective, but:

    Wimbledon
    Olympic Gold
    Other Grand Slam
    Olympic Silver
    Olympic Bronze

If we're talking about doubles, I would probably go for Olympic gold over the Grand Slam trophy.

Hmmm...good question. It's close, but for me, it would shake out in this order:

    French Open
    Wimbledon
    US Open
    Australian Open
    Olympic Gold

However, if I already had a couple slam titles, I would take the Olympic gold over a third slam.

The Olympics have always been a minor tournament. May eligible players haven't bothered to play there. Some Russians and perhaps other Eastern Europeans feel that it is very important for historical reasons. Perhaps the Olympics can achieve a good level of importance. Holding it at Wimbledon last time certainly added some prestige to the tournament.

Grand slams, and by a wide margin. I'd hold the Olympics in the same esteem as maybe a Masters/ATP 1000 event. If winning for your country is so important I'd rather see a fuller commitment to playing Davis Cup.

    Grand Slam easily.
The Olympics is on par with the Davis Cup in my opinion.

The last olympic village was stocked with 70,000 condoms. They ran out and had to order 30,000 more. You going to pass that up for a peck on the cheek from wrinkled up royalty?

Yeah me too. Olympics is cool but it is not a tennis achievement, it's an Olympic achievement. I just don't put it on the level of other tournaments that have been part of the Tennis Canon for longer.

Murray's is of a higher standard because it was Wimbledon and he was at home, so it came with a degree of pressure that other's did not. It was a key stepping stone on the road to winning Wimbledon as a Brit, so it becomes an interesting part of the narrative. Otherwise there are a lot of Olympic winners who didn't win slams, although this could change in the future.

    My order...
    1. Wimbledon
    2. US Open
    3. French Open
    4. Australian Open
    5. Davis Cup
    6. Olympics
+1... In fact The Summer Olympics are suffering from event/sport bloat. I would like to see more sports eliminated. Any sport that the Olympics is not a premier event for sport I wouldn't mind being removed from the Olympics altogether. Tennis, Soccer, etc... What's really a shame is that Wrestling was eliminated had to fight its way back while Golf was added... and don't get me started on women twirling ribbons in front of judges for a medal...

Slam for sure, maybe Maria Sharapova and Roger Federer would rather win an Olympic singles gold now though, since they've both won all the slams but not gold in singles...

For me it would be the French, then a 3-way tie for the other slams, then Olympic Gold. But I can understand how players from other countries would chose differently.

Say...Del Potro or even Stan. I bet they'd trade their single slam title for an Olympic Gold. Or how about Baghdatis? Granted he didn't win the Aussie, but I bet he'd trade his Aussie final for a Silver in a heartbeat, especially since Cyprus has only ever won 1 medal in the Olympics ever.

The US has won over 1,000 gold medals, and over 2,600 medals overall, so in winning one, you'd be just one in a sea of a thousand.

For me, having won neither previously, major tournament all the way. Players are judged, and remembered, by major wins. An Olympic gold doesn't take you out of "never won a major" consideration.
