I think the major hurdle for Rafa to win the gold has always been Djokovic (not Federer) and I'm afraid it will be the same at USO. It could be a Gonzalez-Djokovic final but at least Rafa is almost guaranteed to get the bronze, so I'll be happy no matter what. Vamos Rafa!

OK, you're right. I don't know why but I got confused for a second and thought Rafa would probably play Mathieu in the bronze match... This being said, I would still give a good chance to Rafa to beat Blake but it won't be a done deal.

Why didn't Nadal double with Ferrer? They probably would've been the 2nd seed and made it to the semis.

Not anymore, Nadal beat him twice this year on hard. To me Nadal would be the heavy favorite if they met in the final.

I'm not saying it's a sure deal but I would definitely say that Rafa would be the favorite, especially since Nadal's form is scintillating and Blake's form is rather less good than when they played in IW and Miami. The way Rafa plays right now and with the momentum he has I would claim that the only guy who could beat him is Djokovic. It's really a shame Novak is on the same side of the draw. It would have been a perfect final and also Rafa would have had a better chance in best of 5 IMO.

The match has always been on Blake's racquet. Nadal is NEVER in control of the match if James Blake is in the zone. Nadal simply does not have the tools to beat Blake in a groundstroke war on HCs.
BTW those two matches Blake lost were close, and he had alot of opportunities to win them. Also they were on slow HCs, and this is a lightning fast HC.

Great score but then again Melzer is not exactly a terrifying opponent. Facing Djoko tomorrow will be kind of a shock after such a comfortable domination today but Rafa knows it and he will arrive fully prepared. Will that be enough?

Don't think so. Djokovic will have to play really bad to lose to Nadal on a quick surface like this one.

it should be very interesting. considering how well rafa's playing and how comfortable djokovic is on HC's, it's going to be entertaining. but djokovic is the clear favorite.
